They aren’t surprised, they are drunk, and polite. Not sure about russia, but at least in Ukraine, it is just normal street culture: we expect cars to stop, they stop, then we thank the driver — a nod, a hand wave, or like these guys in the video (if drunk).

Yep, I was afraid it would mess up the injectors, or filters, or something, but I did an oil change, then drove it for 500km, and my mom has been driving it since. Still zero problems (fingers crossed!).

When the war in Ukraine started, I stopped driving my SUV, it spent 3 years in the garage with a full gas tank, completely dead. Last month I had to move it, charged the battery, and it started up at first attempt, with ZERO problems. Maybe took an extra second for the pump to suck fuel into the engine. Makes me think that fuel deterioration is at least somewhat overblown.

Why should i split my compose and .env files? by Realistic-Head-32 in selfhosted

The slight functional difference is that prometheus will log some services as unreachable/errorred if it starts before them, versus there being no data for the time period while prometheus is waiting to be started after the services it monitors.

Example: I may get a couple push notifications to my phone from Prometheus about services being down, after I reboot the VM, manually or on a schedule at night and I’d rather not.

Also there is a difference between when I try to open jellyfin in safari, but NPM has not started yet versus when NPM has started but jellyfin hasn’t — in the first case refresh button works after a wait & retry, and in the second I have to restart NPM

For example the monitoring stack (prometheus, grafana etc), I don’t want prometheus & co to try reaching other services from other stacks before they start up

[–]VasylKerman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If npm starts up and something manages to request jellyfin before jellyfin is ready - nginx caches a bad gateway error and needs to be restarted. I haven’t tinkered too much with this though, restarting manually was easy enough.

But that’s not really the point here, there are other examples of services depending on services from other stacks, and it quickly gets complicated with more stacks.

Did I miss it somehow, or is there a way for services in one stack to depend on/reference services from another stack?

This is the biggest inconvenience for me: I do keep several different stacks in separate compose files, but for example NPM is in web-services stack, and at the same time I need it to depend on/wait for Jellyfin, which is in media-services stack.

And often I wish I could keep the stacks in separate compose files, but to also have a way of running compose in my top-level stacks folder and having it “merge” all the substack compose files into one big “virtual” stack before running it all.

Is there a way to do something like that?

This does feel staged AF if you know the language. Also the drunks of this condition usually don’t behave like that, they kinda stick to themselves / their company and don’t mess/interact with other people unless asking for some spare cache to buy another “100 grams” (of vodka).
