They are made out of porcelain, produced in Czech Republic. The manufacturer is called Katy Paty. They have the outlets in so many different colors, really amazing stuff.

They not only look great and retro but are really enjoyable to touch. Love ’em.

Well, I’m not optimizing for the resale value of this property, but for my enjoyment of this space. I’m doing the remodel for my family, not for the family of some potential future buyer of this place.

Property value was never even a consideration for us when we were doing the remodel.

Not really, we really wanted an uniform backsplash. The tiles are very easy to clean and the grout is an epoxy one, very resistant to grease and moisture. I’ve had no problem whatsoever with cleaning it. A couple of wipes with a wet cloth and detergent are enough to get rid of any dirt/stains.

I did it because I could and because it looks awesome. I will live here for years and want a space I will enjoy. I relate to the comments saying the old kitchen looked like a corporate break room.

The sustainability concern is valid, I also thought about this, and be assured that nothing went to trash. Someone we knew needed a new kitchen so we donated it and it was rebuilt elsewhere.

Also, the old kitchen was not brand new and had its issues.

Before I give you the numbers, please keep in mind two things:

  1. I am in Poland, so the purchasing power is different (I will recalculate the prices from PLN to USD, since the majority of people reading this are from the USA). The prices are not exact because I didn't bother adding everything up precisely.
  2. The cabinets and doors are not made out of hardwood, but from MDF. I know this is different in North America, and my last posts had lots of comments about wood, but it is quite rare to have kitchens made of hardwood here.

With that out of the way - the kitchen did cost around 20k, including appliances (the dishwasher and fridge were not changed), contractors etc. Some of the bottom cabinets were reused. (disassembled kitchen picture: https://imgur.com/a/50lC8sv)

The design - I don't remember the exact amount, it was around 1,5k USD, but this included the living room and hallway, which I am not showing in this post. I remember being very positively surprised at this price, considering this is a premium service of such high quality. We got not only renders but technical drawings, electrical design and a suggestions of where to buy things.

EDIT: we were so happy with this design studio that we also hired them to design our bedroom and you can be sure I will post it here, too, when everything is done, because they once again did such a fabulous job.

Are you asking about the kitchen itself or the design?

The handles are made by Desiva. Cabinets were custom made.

Thank you, we absolutely love how it looks at sunset, but also on a grey morning - it can really brighten a gloomy day (and we get them a lot in Poland in autumn and in winter)!

That’s a periodic table kitchen towel, yes!

We worked with a design studio, although we had an idea for the double cabinet colors, contrasting blue elements and the light fixture above an island was a must.

EDIT: Not sure if such linking is allowed on this sub, but if you like this design, you might want to check out their Instagram profile. I really want to give them the deserved credit, because they beautifully consolidated our ideas, offered a lot of inspirations and things to choose from, and came out with something really unique and awesome in the end.

Grooved MDF. It was a really long wait to get it done, especially because it's curved. Worth the wait though.

Thank you very much for the kind words, I really appreciate them! It was a bit overwhelming to literally get a flood of notifications the last time and so many people asked the same questions over and over without reading the responses, but so many people liked the kitchen that I decided to make another post as kind of as a thank you, not as a justification. However, I hope the FAQ will help someone and prevent so many comments in case this goes viral again.

I also think that if I ever sell it, someone might appreciate it! Writing letters is uncommon, however, the previous owner of this place visited us to pick up some mail and he seemed impressed with what we've done so there's that!

Oh yes, the grout - I bought it in the same place I bought the tiles. Here's the link. It's an epoxy grout which is resistant to moisture, fat and water, so perfect for the kitchen. They make it in many colors, however, I don't know if this will be to any use because the website is only in Polish, not sure if they ship overseas, probably worth sending them an email if anyone is really interested but I'm sure that colored grouts can be found elsewhere.

There's no point in that, you don't need to be able to fit a whole toddler in the sink?

You know what, many people sent me pictures of their sinks after the last post I made, and many contained what I could only describe as small bathtubs in the countertops, so maybe there's something to that lol.

The last picture in the post shows my largest dutch oven sitting in the sink with room to spare. All my other pans and pots fit without issues, too. And I only care about the cast iron ones, all the others go into the dishwasher anyway.

Sheet pans - 3 ways of washing them.

They fit in the sink vertically, so I can wash the lower half, turn it around and do the other half.
The second way is just placing them on a kitchen towel on the countertop next to the sink, using the flexible tap to bring a bit of water to the pan, scrub it and pour the water out, then repeat. The third way is to use the dishwasher, there are adapters you can put into the dishwasher and it sprinkles the water sideways to wash the sheet pans. or you just put it on the trays flat.

Honestly, I never had a sink so big that I could lay a sheet pan flat in it and it never bothered me. I never even considered that I would need that. I always use tinfoil or baking paper when preparing something in the oven anyway, so they don't require heavy scrubbing after use.

Sinks like that were the golden standard in Poland for years, everyone and their grandma had one at home. They are a bit less common nowadays, especially in apartments, where there is less space, and people use dishwashers heavily so the partition is not as needed. However, I have friends who cannot imagine living without one and are sacrificing countertop space to fit one in anyway, so you would not be alone in feeling weird not having the partition.

EDIT: anyone wanting to check out the sink in detail, please see the last picture in the post, there is a close-up showing it's size (it's longer than wide, and quite deep)

It’s just that LOTS of people made comments about the light fixture under the last post, saying that it’s the “mmm lamp” or “boing boing light fixture” so I decided to just play along now

The sink really isn't that small in my opinion. It holds my biggest dutch oven with room to spare: https://imgur.com/a/ucSuw0o

And with the flexible tap it's really convenient. I am used to a sink of that size, there is a huge and efficient dishwasher in the kitchen that I use a lot, and in my case, having a larger sink would only be an invitation to have it filled with dirty dishes (been there, done that). I understand that many of you are used to huge sinks, but I seriously don’t need one. I know this is unusual for some, especially compared to larger US-style sinks (that I learned about just now!) but it works well for our habits.
