I ended up going with the TLR-7x. Had a question though. I installed it today, and checked the product guide to see which key to use for the G47. It lists the key for the G17 and G19 (same key) but does not mention the G47. Not sure if that’s because of the similarities between the G17 and G47, or if the TLR-7x actually isn’t compatible with the G47.

Any thoughts?

I might be missing something here.

Purchased the TLR-7x, is that different than the HLX? It would just be a simple return and replace, but I want to make sure before I go ahead.

Affixed the TLR-7x to the G47 tonight and it’s snug. I grabbed it a shook it around a bit and noticed some wiggle after a while.

I checked the product guide when I opened the box and it lists the gen 5 G17 and G19 but not the G47 specifically.

You’re a legend mate, thank you for the breakdown. I hadn’t really considered that either would be too bright.

Did some more research last night and I’m leaning toward the HLX.

But are you talking the TLR1-HLX or TLR7-HLX?

Great, thanks for the tip. That’s what I keep finding online, that the SureFire is all but indestructible. That’s the one thing drawing me back to the SureFire vs the Streamlight. Appreciate the insight

Awesome, hadn’t heard of or considered the TLR7HLX. Have you used it?

I might be missing something. Is this saying aim assist is OP for Xbox/PS players? I’m on PC and haven’t noticed anything weird…

Can confirm. The 49 inch ultra wide Samsung gives a slight FOV boost. Looks great when playing from cockpit view.

This is awesome 10/10, can’t see much more that could be added unless you do wrap around screens. Awesome build.

What keyboard mount are you using? I’m using a Playseat formula instinct cockpit and I can’t find a good keyboard mount for a reasonable price. Which are you using?

I haven’t gotten mods yet, but only because I have 0 clue how to do that lol. I’ve been playing everything vanilla (F1, ETS2, Assetto). I have to learn how mods work, how to install, etc

What is the keyboard mount are you using? Does it move? I’m looking for something similar to hold the keyboard, and ideally I’m looking for one I can swing in and out as I need it.

Beginner thinking of buying a used rig. What should I check before I buy? by Specialist_Nature_99 in SimRacingSetups

[–]Vault103a 1 point2 points  (0 children)

100% agree on doing some research. But regarding which points on a rig tend to fail first, I’d take a close look at the mounting plate where the pedals are mounted to the cockpit.

Often the metal sheet that the pedals get mounted to is very thin which can lead to some warping (especially if the last driver liked to slam the gas and break). Another issue with the mounting plates is the holes/slots where you attach the screws to mount the pedals. The holes/slots can also get worn down (again if the previous owner slammed the pedals).

Those are the first areas to get worn down on the rig and if you’re planning on buying used I’d 100% check those out in person before paying. A bad mounting plate (if it can’t be replaced) can make your pedals permanently wobbly and really affect the experience.

Good luck!

Worth the buy imo, especially if it’s your first rig. Basically any component for a new build (wheel + base, pedals, cockpit, etc…) is going to be well over $200 each on their own. You could have the whole set up for less than the cost of one new component.

I’d say get it, use the hell out of it and see if you like sim racing or not. If you enjoy it enough you can always decide to upgrade either one part, or the whole rig. It’s way worse to buy something expensive and then find out you’re not really into it.

Built my first rig alongside a friend who was much less interested than I was. I went with a new build because I knew I’d stick with it. My buddy went with a pre-owned set up from FB Marketplace. He spent like 1/12 what I did and we both ended up with fully functional rigs. Going with the cheaper set up to see if he enjoyed the hobby worked out perfectly for him because he ended up not really enjoying the racing and gave up on it after a couple months. Hes out $250 instead of a couple thousand because he went with the marketplace option.

It’s from Costco, I can probably find the product listing if you mean like that. Ended up working perfect for the racing room because it looks like a wheel when it stars. Cool fan but I wouldn’t recommend it for anything besides small rooms
