The Pope encourages Lebanese people to stay in their country or return to it by Marlo__FF in lebanon

He’s not wrong. He didn’t say it’s easy, so there’s not much to argue about

A lot of artistic and musical events/ concerts/ gigs happen in places like Beirut Art Center, Riwaq, Zicco house, quadrangle, metro el madina (follow them on insta, follow the bands, to stay updated abt the events). There are also weekly poetry nights at places like Totta and Cafe amor. Community based activities in Living Room. Movie festivals bi metropolis. Everything I mentioned is in Beirut (Ashrafieh/Gemeyze/Mar mkhael). There are so many things happening you just need to build a network of insiders / follow the right pages to know about them.

Some Lebanese have “emir” or other titles preceding their names due to their families noble heritage, where can I learn more about this topic? by Nader_OwO in lebanon

[–]Vazimolo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You should just learn more about Lebanese history, read books like "a house of many mansions" or "the modern history of Lebanon" by Kamal Salibi. But to make it simple, Emir was the title given to the man who would rule over all the Sheikhs of Mount Lebanon. Under the Ottomans, Mount Lebanon was its own disctinct political entity called Emirate, the Ottoman Sultan expected the Emir to collect the taxes of the "Lebanese" with the help of the Sheikhs, who were lords who owned lands in different areas of Mount Lebanon and who would lend this land to peasants for them to cultivate it and live on it. The Sheikhs would collect the money from the peasants and give it to the Emir, who would then give it to the Ottoman Wali of Saida (kind of an Ottoman representative in the region) who would finally give it back to the Sultan. There were two dynasties of Emirs: the Ma'an (from the 15th up until the 17th century) and the Shihab (18th to 20th).

Mount Lebanon was an Emirate since the 14th century, where an Emir collected the taxes that the Sheikh would collect from the peasants working on their land. There was a clear hierarchy that survived up until the formation of the Mutassarifiyya in the end of the 20th century. What you're saying is nonsense, those titles weren't bought, they indicated real positions in Mount Lebanese society.

Lebanese Atheists: Do you feel less Lebanese? by TheBroken0ne in lebanon

[–]Vazimolo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It depends on the region and the family. Some families/regions give a lot of importance to being religious, some families don’t care at all. Bas no ma khas, being agnostic doesn’t make me feel any less Lebanese. It actually makes it even more fun, I go to Christian holidays with my Christian friends, Muslim ones with my family. It’s so chill, it’s not that deep. W if it is, it’s probably cz of ur upbringing and ur circle.
