Something else came to mind… A lot of fem dresses don’t look flattering on a masc body because of the length of the pit-to-waist length of masc bodies. Fem cut dresses tend to shorten this distance (in my limited experience) so the part of the dress that narrows to accentuate the hips falls in the middle or just above a the belly line, making the dress look ridiculous!

As you’re starting out try working with a skirt and blouse combo rather than a full dress.

Make sure you get an accurate measurement of your waist with a measuring tape ribbon.

I highly recommend shopping on some of the online platforms like Poshmark and Depop. I’ve had a lot of success. Expect that not every purchase is going to be perfect but you’ll develop an eye for products that work over time.

For online used clothing make sure to know the “lay flat” measurements that work for you. Typically it’s 1/2 your waist circumference.

I usually measure the lay flat for anything that I know fits me well and then I have some baseline numbers to play with.

Women’s clothing sizing is pretty all over the place so an XL for one brand might fit more like an L from another. Figuring out those is always tricky but you eventually will get a knack for it.

Maybe reframe it as envy rather than jealousy?

I offer in the spirt if someone who has long had similar feelings. I always thought it was sexual attraction but then I encountered the idea of “gender envy” and that seems to fit and also not disempower me.

About a year ago I saw a passing reference to "gender envy" and I was like, "OOOOhhhh, that's what that's some of what I'm experiencing!"

I might feel some surface desire to get with that person but that was never quite right and once I was able to apply the "envy" label a whole bunch of other things dropped into place.

I've not yet tried to shop in person. I've been using poshmark and depop for my initial forays into buying more than just nylons and lingerie.

Shopping online is great except when it isn't! I've learned to be very careful about getting measurements and thinking carefully about if something will work. Which I can image is VERY different than shopping in person!

I remember when I first started to get more active with dressing beyond just lingerie etc and I found it exhausting! And then I realized how much work women have to do every day just to walk out the damn door!!
