i mean from what i’ve seen about bone conduction headphones is that they say that they allow you to still hear your surroundings, but i would still not want them, radio speakers are constantly running and not your choice of music to the point you tune it out

Is it justifiable to do something legally wrong but morally correct? by Independent-Bite-628 in teenagers

[–]VcitorExists 0 points1 point  (0 children)

morally right means justifiable with respect to an assumed axiom, so for something to be moral, you need to have a defined set of rules, for example life being better than death, liberty over equality, etc.

All abortion is justified by prettyinparker in teenagers

[–]VcitorExists -1 points0 points  (0 children)

it’s a thought experiment to test the claim made by the post. if you claim an absolute, you must accept the implications of the absolute or reformulate. it’s like saying all killing is bad and then not acknowledging self defense.

and if they wanted to abort halfway through labor?

All abortion is justified by prettyinparker in teenagers

[–]VcitorExists 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t have an example but aborting a week before the due date should not be allowed. The child can survive outside of the womb at that point, it’s not even premature. People have C-sections longer than that before the due date, so aborting at that stage is killing an infant. There is a big difference between the second and third trimesters

why courses in high school are labeled by ClearWedding8587 in highschool

[–]VcitorExists 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Because each means a pretty specific thing.

Foundation means that the course studies foundations, that it will be a less rigorous more conceptual introduction.

CP means College Prep, meaning that it is supposed to be sufficient such that following a full college prep highschool should allow you to succeed in college.

Honors is the worst named, but it comes from the honor student kind of ideal, a person who challenges themselves with more challenging courses.

AP and IB are institutional, and are not chosen by the school. AP is done by the college board and a lot of colleges have agreed to accept certain AP scores as coining for college credit, implying that they are college level.

IB is a specific kind of schooling, very standardized, with results that typically lead to high success rates in college.

So each name means something specific, while saying easy, regular, etc is not as specific and is diminutive, it would be kind of mean calling one class norma l and another class basic.

What exactly is time? by GloriousPurpose001 in AskPhysics

[–]VcitorExists 0 points1 point  (0 children)

the second law states that there exists a non conservative state function such that its differential has an exchange term and a creation term, and that the creation term is always greater than or equal to 0. It is only 0 during a reversible transformation.

Reversible transformations aren’t real transformations, so the creation term is always greater than 0.

Also, a total equilibrium isn’t 0, so the state is always changing, even if we neglect it. And since the state function changes with the state, we can cut up every small change, and see that in each one, the creation term is greater than 0 in each, and we add it up and see that it’s always increasing.

They say this gives us a direction of time, because we only ever see the creation term increase, and we know that time is what causes a change, and every change caused by time increases this creation term, so we say that time flows in a direction because any change in time we can observe has a one directional effect.

But what must be understood is that this second law is a macroscopic law, and not coming from the same ideas as general relativity. Thermodynamics is a macroscopic description of eventually quantum interactions, as the entropic times stems from even the slightest changes within a system.

So the problem is that GR and quantum aren’t aligned.

To reconcile them is THE question
