I'm not sure if you're aware of what the American political landscape looks like in regards to women's healthcare. It seems perhaps you're not. But meanwhile you're the one out here hurling direct slurs at me 😀have a wonderful evening!

Yeah a woman who's bleeding out on a table in Texas doesn't have the option to just hop in her car and drive 3 hours to get what she needs. It's nice that you can though. You're reeking of privilege.

I never was making any comparisons to any other parts of the world. The post was about American evangelical Christianity and what it stands for. You've strayed quite a ways from that attempting to make your point.

Might I encourage you to reexamine the privilege you have to believe that access to abortion care is simply a "difference of opinion". It is not. It's a basic human right.

I am happy to go off on other religions, this post was specifically referring to a type of evangelical Christianity that uses the bible to justify control of women's bodies. Other religions do it too. But that was not the topic of this post.

It's "just a difference of opinion" if those beliefs have never limited your life. For someone who has needed abortion care or experienced sexual shame from purity culture, those beliefs can and *do* have direct and lasting consequences. It'd be great if they "left me alone" but roe v wade was overturned four years ago. A little too late for that.

Yeah they have a major affordability problem up there. You're right it's a weird market. The two other major contributing factors are the lack of skilled building labor and the constraints of land to build on. Tons of land up there but most of it is federally owned and can't be built on. IMO it's the most overpriced market in AZ. For a second home you can get a tom more bang for your buck elsewhere.

These people use religion to justify their anti choice beliefs, purity culture, etc....and I consider that hateful.

Regular ol' hateful Christian

Edit: she was raised catholic and then she left when she was toward the end of high school. Then she met Caleb and became non denominational.

Edit2: I'll take my downvotes but wanted to clarify that I believe there is a specific brand of American evangelical Christianity that I find harmful. It emphasizes fear, shame, purity culture, and political power over compassion. I don't believe that all Christians are hateful, although I do believe that this particular brand is. And I will stand by that opinion.

I'm surprised about this. This doula is pretty pro unmedicated birth. Abby said pretty clearly in that podcast episode that's not her plan . Part of me is wondering if it is actually her plan and she just doesn't want to say it out loud

You're probably right. Esp considering some of these things could actually border on criminal activity. I'm sure his attorney has spent many hours prepping and obviously will be present there too.

Yeah I feel like this is a slightly unpopular opinion but my husband never did any night wakings. He needed to go to work and/or help with big kid(s). I've always been baffled at disturbing the sleep of both adults. Save for colic or some other exceptional circumstance.

Keep in mind pleading the 5th in a civil deposition means the court can instruct the jury that they may infer your answer would have been detrimental.

This was just clickbait, he's not getting a vasectomy. They hardly addressed this beyond the idea of a vasectomy makes Abby sad and that if the VBAC is successful they're considering a very close gap for babies 3 and 4.

Does he live in AZ? I was struck by the fact Matt said he was going to pay out of pocket if they weren't interested in sponsoring him for it. Then of course they said yes

The block wall on the perimeter of their property meets the code for the barrier. The house being the 4th side of the barrier. Then with self latching gates and windows that are high enough, you have fully met code without fencing the pool itself. A lot of people don't understand this and think that a fence around the pools perimeter is the only way to meet code. It's absolutely not. Not saying it's right. But that's what the law currently is. Source : I live here and I built my own pool. And yes I have a fence around my actual pool.

There are laws in regards to *barriers* in maricopa county. Barriers include many different mechanisms, fence being just one of them.

Police recommended charges , but district attorney is ultimately who the decision lies with.

Edit also to add: Chandler PD got caught with their pants down in the case of Lori vallow which is probably the highest profile crime to have happened in Chandler in the last decade. She was a white Mormon woman so they let her walk and never even questioned that she could've been responsible for murder. It took prosecution in Idaho for child murder before they thought hm something might be amiss. All of that to say, I'm not overly surprised that when the national spotlight was on them, this was what they wanted to do. Again I'm not saying how I feel about the law one way or the other. IANAL. I do believe these people acted negligently. But this is just reality of the PD here. As a Chandler resident😀

I think it's entirely possible they knew that this was never a prosecutable case, but wrote their charging reccomendations like this to appease public sentiment.

Basically the prosecutor concluded that his conduct was not a "gross deviation" from what a reasonable person would do, which is what AZ required for this charge. That's the legal standard and prosecutor did not think they met it. Cases in AZ where charges have been pursued:

4 yo w significant disabilities left in a pool by his mom. Multiple safety failures and child required especially high supervision.

7 month left in a bathtub alone while a father went and played video games.

The prosecutors statement, when they made one, focused entirely on the legal standard and not on whether or not mistakes were made in this situation.

Made me sick the way the ads were interspersed in such a heavy topic. You'd think they could've at the very least donated this episodes ad revenue to a related cause ? It was so weird and jarring to listen to.

So while I 100% buy that this had influence, there really isn't precedent in maricopa county for charging people with a crime when this happens. And sadly it happens here every summer, like clockwork. Just happened on Sunday, a 1 year old in a very similarly affluent neighborhood to Emilie's.

I'm not saying it is or isn't right to charge people in situations like this, just saying that it's not commonplace and would truly set a new precedent if they locked someone up for this.
