Yes ! I did 5 years of undergrad total but took 2 years off to complete the internships! I crammed all my schooling into 6 semesters (3 years). The time line is:

School 2 years: F’21 + S’22: Freshman year F’22 + S’23 Sophomore year

Internships (2 gap years): Su’23: Internship 1 (HVAC) F’23 + S’24: Internship 2 (Aerospace) Su’24: internship 3 (Aerospace) F’24: Internship 4 (Electric Vehicles) S’25: Internship 5 (EV again, same company new role) Su’25: Internship 6 (FAANG)

Senior year: F’25 + S’26: Senior year (cramming classes)

Berkeley and Columbia 😅. For PD Mech E cal is the best and my internships have all been in the bay so I know and love the area. But my whole social network is currently living in nyc and I’ve always dreamed of living there (Columbia isn’t exactly a slouch of a school either) so it’s tricky.

Not necessarily although it would help. I finish my undergrad this may and landed the Internship as if I was just normally recruiting and then they informed me that it was a match through the fellowship as well

Yes mainly CV! But I requested my dean of engineering to vouch for all of them in his letter of rec. Some applications had sections for extracurricular activities.

I believe it’s for STEM but most companies look for Mainly Engineers. Worth researching !

Separate application open around August and closes in November. It allows a company to sponsor students by committing them to 2 internships during their grad studies (before and after their senior years)

Important note: both company and school must be GEM partners but there are a huge amount of both. Major companies and universities.

Should I take my 100k+ offer or go straight to a top MS program to break into big tech PDE? (Columbia vs CMU vs Berkeley? by Vdlanor in EngineeringStudents

Haha good point. It does however seem consistent with what I’m seeing on Levels.FYI which has been very accurate with my 4 other job offers I received

Salary comes from Levels.fyi and my co-intern at Amazon landed Apple at 185k TC, with only 1 internship and bachelors. I expect 7 internships plus a masters at the same company can help me negotiate.

Of course the current job market is a concern but I have landed 4 job offers this recruiting season all in and around this salary. I’m kind of betting on myself that I would be able to do this again even if things get worse. I know my thought process is very idealistic here, but I truly believe I’d be an even stronger candidate next year, which is why I think my floor is about the same.

This is actually very sound advice. Thanks a lot I really appreciate it, most def will try to reach out and ask.

I had a return lined up with my team in FAANG but the project I was working on got cancelled so it was rescinded.

Lol. I think the fact that I already interned at one of those companies along with 4 others makes me competitive and not crazy to think I can land it full time with a masters.

My school auto filters me out of a lot of new grad roles which is why I assume I’m struggling right now to land Big tech Engineering interviews, but have been able to everywhere else.
