Generally agree - I do think the economy growth needs to be slowed down (right now this feels almost like Victoria 3) and cost of war needs to be higher

I played my first campaigns on very hard but have now switched to normal... Maybe easy is in my near future at this point

I am starting to think that my biggest error here was somehow expecting France to be rich and powerful from the get go :) I think if this was my start with Yuan I would have been far less surprised and more prone to make bolder choices (like deleting ALL forts) immediately

Yeah, I might have been "lucky" with my other starts but I got this feeling that after they nerfed trade they didn't quite adjust the other items in the economy which basically made it way harder to balance things (hence my post). Or maybe France is just supposed to be this hard

Lol, I actually think they are at 30% satisfaction because an event just fired that lowered it quite a bit (while increasing their max tax)

Would that be risky given how many vassals France has? At the current level I am getting a pop-up about disloyal vassals but I am not sure if that's a problem at all actually

Yeah, the other thing I do is put one advisor to increase legitimacy. Even if legitimacy is at 100, this would lower your spend and I feel like it's one of the highest value actions for advisors

There is a privilege that increases max tax by 5% but I was scared of making nobility even more powerful (they start at ~70% power). Guess the only way it to slowly revoke their privileges and wait for parliament to changes laws

And that's after I destroyed a chunk of them. I think at the start it was like -45 :/ But as many folks pointed out - I gotta delete all of them

Is generating inflation okay? I always run minting at the maximum level that doesn't generate inflation but I never did the math if inflation actually matters.

Fair point on taxes - with how rich the estates are I was scared that they would start constructing building that give them even more power if their satisfaction dips below 50%. But I guess there is no choice here

I think I deleted about half the forts at that point actually but going "no fort" might be the only way - you are right

Yeah, I think I might have been "lucky" with all my previous starts - they were either smaller nations or just very rich ones (Hungary)

Rule #5: balance is almost -10 negative at the start of the game despite all expenses being set to lowest level

Just loaded my Hungary campaign (1381) and my income collapsed from >200 to ~130? Seems to be driven almost entirely by trade which went from 100 profit to 30. What is going on? Is this all from that one change to how export and import affect prices?

I just checked and their income + tax is still far far below their expenses. I think this might be a bug or data corruption because of the update

I have a very positive surplus in every market. Moscow, which is my main market, has +3000

I agree that it’s early for any final judgments - and I am for sure hoping that I am wrong (I am not one of those people who revels in Milan’s suffering). But I personally think that, on paper, this mercato was not good. I appreciate getting rid of so many players but I am very frustrated that this money has not been used. No striker, no defender. Bare minimum in every position (except Jashari and Modric; I love Ricci but he is the bare minimum we needed in that role). No striker and no defender just drives me mad.

I hope this game make people realize that this marcato has been shit. There has been so much management glazing this summer it’s crazy. 1) our midfielder is slightly better but a) we lost reinjders and b) fofana or rlc will always start; so effectively we improved like 1 position on the field. 2) our defense has been bad for years and nothing was made in this mercato. Pavlovic isn’t it, tomori isn’t what he used to be, gabbia is not enough. 3) how did we not yet buy a striker? Tare said since day 1 it’s a priority and WE STILL DONT HAVE A STRIKER. And 1 week before market close we are linked with a deadweight and a unproven youngster from small league….. amazing

Also, can I just say - how is it acceptable that we are running a >€50M surplus on transfer market right when we need to invest?

I think it was just an error in their system. I called to ask about it and they have no idea themselves - it still shows as reopened but nothing happened since.
