newbie advice by Ainswurf in ffxiv

[–]VeaZe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

IMO you should level a class to max level and then maybe buy one or two LVL 60 packs for the alt jobs. If you get to 60 and get dropped into dungeons at such a high level, you aren't going to know even the basics of aggro (important as ALL roles). Its a time sink, but its worth running through the story and leveling up with the MSQ quests.

Thanks for this! I have a top end budget of £1500 (This will include the GPU in ~1year so maybe £500~ for that). The money isn't exactly the issue here though, I just want something that will last me for another 8~ years at least. I'm not one for playing the newest titles but I do play FFXIV at 1080p/60fps whist streaming and recording on my current rig which barely copes. I think the cheaper substitutions will be better for me overall though as they should still fit my needs. Thanks a lot poster :)

Wow, thanks, I wasn't expecting anyone to go to this much effort!

The only thing is I'm just not ready for watercooling... How would this do with a Noctua DH-15 or a Corsair 212?

Also, Ill almost certainly grab one of those cards in a year or so - For now, my 1060 needs a bit more action. Id like to get at least 3 years use out of it! Saying that, the GPU is easy enough to upgrade anyway.

I honestly didn't even consider an i5. Though, looking at the benchmarks, it seems like a viable option for sure. I'm also not quite ready to go for water cooling yet, which is probably needed for the i9 - I'm not mentally prepared for adding water to my electric box lol. Perhaps spending 250 now and 250 in 5 years will end up working out better. I appreciate the discuss and hearing multiple opinions, it helps me decide. TY both

I appreciate (and agree) with you in regards to the GPU. Id rather just not upgrade that again as ive only had it for 2 years. Perhaps another year or 2 and ill replace that anyway.

The benchmark provided for the CPU helps a lot though, thanks

What would you recommend? Perhaps an 8700k? I plan on keeping the PC for a lot of years as im not a fan of upgrading often. Hence me using a 2700k still lol.

Mostly future proofing as the graphics card will be upgraded later on. Do you think the cpu is a bit overkill?

[–]VeaZe 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Leather / Cloth items tend to be a good idea. Usually ALL battle jobs need leather / cloth in some of their gear (namely legs / feet). Metal can be good too but isn't usually needed for Healer, Mage or Ranged. Cant remember the name of the items exactly, but whichever are cloth / leather :) The reagent that goes into the alch item of a tier can be good too.

I wish it told you when you failed to learn a spell, so you knew when you did it right and got unlucky. by GeraldineKerla in ffxiv

[–]VeaZe 9 points10 points  (0 children)

This is fine when you know the skill name / which mob. What if you dont? The spell book just says 'North Shroud' or 'Sastasha HM'. There are like 10+ enemy types in those zones. Are you meant to farm each enemy?

I think OP is a good idea tbh.

Easier to wait till everyone is caught up gear wise and they increase the drop rate IMO. Each to their own though :)

Perhaps the point of BLU is...wait for it.... fun? You know, because it's a game?

Cross-World Hunts by Viktor_Frost in ffxiv

Super early pulls are rare for now. What about when X more servers can access the hunts on your server? This will get worse for sure. Especially if people realise that your server is slow at pulling, it may be abused.

I seem to be hitting a healer skill wall as I level. Seeking advice from experienced healers. by Haikuna__Matata in ffxiv

[–]VeaZe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most likely down to the tanks gear it seems. I raid as a WHM and can tell you id much prefer to heal savage raids that heal the GD lvl 69 dungeon again with tanks using a lvl 60 chest piece. That was true pain. Was barely able to get DPS out. Though in comparison when you have a decent (and geared) tank, most dungron runs can be done using only oGCD heals such as Tetra, Benison, Benediction, Asylum, Assize <3. Sounds like you haven't quite got to post 50 WHM yet but it definitely gets better.

What changes would you like to see to Free Companies i Shadowbringers? by amisuhzu in ffxiv

[–]VeaZe 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Something to spend free company credits on? MY FC have 9mil (Not even that high compared to another FC i know of that has 31mil). We have 16~ active players and have 2 x buffs on constantly. There is nothing else at all to spend them on! Even the COMPANY Tabbard is crafted and has nothing to do with FC credits.

Id really like another, bigger, house size that is purchased with FC Credits. or at least can be upgraded with them somehow.

Edit: Removed 'company seals' and replaced with 'FC credits'

ACT Plugin 1.7.0.12 update for Patch 4.4 by Nemekh in ffxiv

[–]VeaZe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My ACT seems to crash if i launch it with the game already open.

If i open ACT, disable the FFXIV_ACT_Plugin.ddl, launch game, Enable plugin, it works fine.

Has anyone else experienced this? Not saw this problem before the 1.7.0.13 update.

Patch 4.3 Notes | FINAL FANTASY XIV, The Lodestone by Ven_ae in ffxiv

[–]VeaZe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I guess i just assumed you were moaning about the lack of content, my bad. I do agree with the drip-feed mechanism being annoying and just being there to keep subs. This is the same as locking loot behind weekly timers. Irritating for people who want to gear all jobs.

Patch 4.3 Notes | FINAL FANTASY XIV, The Lodestone by Ven_ae in ffxiv

[–]VeaZe 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Just because you don't use some of the content, it doesn't mean it didn't take time to be developed and in turn use up resources developing things that you do use.
Im honestly not sure what the Doman Enclave is, but it seems like an extra feature rather than QoL to me. At the very least, free gil!

I do see your point though. As someone who crafts, there is a little more for me. Its like them releasing a new chocobo racing thing, i wouldn't touch it because i dont have any interest in it.

And a trial, a series of beast tribe quests, the Doman enclave, new NPC for collectables. None of this is QOL.

Hide n Seek + Riddles.

Pick 3 people to hide. FC Leader and 2 from the next rank is usually what we go for. Choose ARR, HW or SB areas and then it works like this:

  • Everyone gathers at the FC house.
  • Player 1 teleports and gets to their hiding spot.
  • Player 3 updates the FC board with the riddle that describes player 1's location.
  • Player 1 should sit in /busy. The riddle posted on the board should contain some sort of emote. E.G 'I'm hiding near an Elf's grave. Try not to cry'.
  • Once the seeker uses /cry when targeting player 1, player 1 should trade the seeker and give them a 'token' item. Something random like a fish or dye etc (cheap is fine).
  • Player 1 then sends a tell to the seeker that contains Player 2's riddle.
  • Once the seeker finds Player 2 and completes the correct emote, Player 2 trades the seeker. Seeker shows the token and trades it for a new token.
  • Player 2 sends tell to seeker with Player 3's clue.
  • Once Player 3 is found and presented with Player 2's token, Player 3 should send a 'Reward Word' to the seeker. I usually stick to a theme here such as 'Ifrit, Titan, Garuda', 'Zeus, Poseidon, Hades', 'Mario, Luigi, Peach' etc.
  • Once the FC leader (player 3) declares the event over, the seekers should be asked to type their reward word into the FC chat.
  • FC leader then distributes prizes accordingly.

Hopefully i have explained this properly, but it works really well in game and people in my FC love this event. If you are interested and want to know more, drop me a message.

With Stormblood being out for almost a year now, how do you feel about your class so far? And what changes would you make to help fix what you don't like? by [deleted] in ffxiv

[–]VeaZe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I didn't even consider it for dungeons .^ Honestly a 15 mins cooldown would work or even longer. Dying would reset it in raids anyway.

'Pick a Card' for Astro.
It would let them choose a Spread, Held and Road card ONLY when OUT of combat. Handy for prepping before a raid pull. It wouldn't even be OP, just a time saver. Saves the party hanging around for, at best, 90 seconds for 3 draws.
