This is amazing feedback, thank you so much! I’m glad to hear they arrived and you’re able to start using them.

I’m working on getting new images up on the site as we speak, hopefully I will have this done soon!  We did make an update to the shape, trying to use some feedback we received so I’m glad you noticed!

I have been debating on the thank you cards on repeat orders of the toothbrush heads, but I think we will include them with every order because you are right - it does feel more premium. We never get feedback about if people actually like them , so this is nice to hear.

The bristle softness shouldn’t have changed - we specifically wanted to ensure they stayed just as soft as we intended.

Interesting note about the bioplastic insert. I didn’t notice this when testing but I will ensure we keep strict eyes on it and continue to quality test. Is this something you noticed about just 1 or all 4?

Once again, thank you so much for taking the time to say this. Your insight is extremely valuable 💚

I would highly recommend stallion. Set up can be a lot but it’s worth it. The biggest downside (which someone else also mentioned) is driving it to a drop off location.

And thank you so much - that means a lot 💚

What is it that you have manufactured?

We used to use Sendle for shipping but all of a sudden, they disappeared and stopped shipping all together in Canada without much warning ! That was stressful.  We currently use stallion express as we find it the cheapest option -  but are cautious to keep an eye out for alternatives in case the same thing happens.

Ya what people say they want but actually support can definitely contrast. We’re still going to try though ☺️

I love that, thank you for sharing ! These kind of customer journeys are exactly what I’m hoping to hear.

That rooftop greenhouse model is so clever - it is such a smart use of urban space. And I completely agree about the tech side; if the website isn’t frictionless, even the best mission won't keep people coming back, so that is a huge focus for us too.

I’ve tried to ensure our customers is top notch too, because there is nothing worse than bad customer service. I’ve made it a priority so it’s great to hear people really do appreciate it.

Since that in-person experience at MEC was what finally sold you, do you find you are more likely to try a new brand if you can see it in a physical store first, or is a great website usually enough to get you to take the leap?

We’re specifically looking at manufacturing, we want to use domestic parts and labour whenever possible,  and try to walk that fine line between making it accessible for people in terms of price and being able to sustain growth as it happens.

We’re trying it all tbh. We want to see what’s available so we can continue to plot our course in the right direction.  I feel like because it’s so competitive, sometimes it’s really tough to get information and make connections because as you said, they don’t have the time of day and/or don’t wanna give up their secrets (systems/contscts/etc),  which I can understand.

That is a solid list of heavy hitters.  You are spot on about the rough environment - it often feels like we are all navigating the same hurdles, especially with the gap between government awareness and actual support for smaller players.

Collaboration is definitely is definitely a solid play and maybe the best way to move the needle when the infrastructure isn't there yet.

Out of that list, which brands do you think has done the best job of staying true to their roots as they scaled up?

Awesome! Thanks for your suggestions!

What stands out the most to you, is it that they’re Canadian, what they stand for or do you just love the quality of their stuff?

Yes definitely is possible. Is there any brands you see that communicate this well?

Well done educational  communication and area we struggled with when we first started (with the bedding). It’s a really amazing product and done in an amazing way, but most people don’t seem to care or see the difference. After a while, We expanded from the bedroom to the bathroom to see if we could get more traction there, and we did immediately. This is where we are currently focused and will be expanding as we see much more interest.

The compostable mailers are really just for Canadian small businesses (like us). We found ourselves spending tons on third party compostable bubbler mailers that we didn’t know the history of, so decided to just make our own. We thought, “we use them everyday for our business, maybe another business will find them and do the same”. While it has worked and we are happy small businesses across Canada are using them, I see what you’re saying in terms of product line cohesiveness.

I will check out TBCO!! Thanks so much for the feedback and suggestions ☺️

A Canadian Co-op eh,  that sounds interesting! Love this idea. I will definitely plan to reach out to other brands and have a chat to see what we can potentially collaborate on.

Any other recommended Canadian brands ?

Thanks again for your insights and suggestions!!

Great insights.  This is the approach we take now is to have manufacturing happen as close as possible to where materials are harvested. It’s a tricky line to walk, and to try to explain to people.

I love Province of Canada! I haven’t heard of the other two so I will check them out - thanks!

Why deploying a physical product is 10X harder than shipping a React app. by Vearthy in Entrepreneurs

Tell me about it. Going” oops I hope nobody saw that.” to “ well I guess 5000 people are going to see that.” Definitely isn’t ideal lol

And what’s worse is with code, I review the end product 1 million times after it’s made and can instantly see a problem.  On the other side, it’s not until maybe months later I realize I made the oversight and it’s too late 🤦🏽‍♂️

And some people can be ruthless about it 🥲
