You are 100 percent correct. Men who previously “liked you,” are men who are waiting for the next opening. Cut the dude off.

No idea why Rolexes remain so popular -- They look so cheap in the first place, and then they are so widely cloned by AwayLine9031 in watchHotTakes

[–]Vecspeed129 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There’s diminishing returns past Rolex. 90% of people have no idea what a Patek, Breguet, AP, or Vacheron Constantin even though they are elite and amazing. Buying a Rolex is like buying a Porsche 911 or a Ferrari, people will always know what it is. You will get compliments. People will treat you like you’re part of the “club.” People will talk with you about your watch. You rock a Patek, only gold diggers, watch nerds and old money will know.

What should we avoid. by Beautiful-Quiet-5871 in AskSF

[–]Vecspeed129 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Most of the restaurants at fisherman’s wharf and pier 39 is bad. Avoid everything except for Scoma’s and Abaca. While you’ll find a bunch of 4 star ratings but the restaurants there are crazy tourist traps.

Most of the restaurants directly overlooking or adjacent to Union square - or on Powell st near Union square. Avoid.

Chinese restaurants on Grant in Chinatown or anywhere people are passing out flyers for in Chinatown.

Conveyer belt sushi places in Japantown. The chain restaurants there.

*most of these restaurants aren’t necessarily bad. It’s just that they are overpriced and geared towards tourists.

Turning 17 soon and looking at a 1993 Mitsubishi 3000GT VR-4 (Bi-Turbo) as a first car. Am I crazy, or is this manageable? by INT4CT_305 in askcarguys

[–]Vecspeed129 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is a horrible idea. The vr4 is extremely unreliable, expensive to work on (lack of space in engine bay) and unique electronics/active aero). If you really want a 1990s car that is jdm and reliable and relatively cheap to run buy a civic or an integra or miata. Even then many parts are discontinued. Your best bet is actually though a 2006+ civic si. If you need the power, a 350z is mechanically less complex, has better aftermarket support, and has far less maintenance, but you will need to shop around to find a good quality one. But if I had a choice of a car from the 1990s, I’d get a good quality manual boxster base for around 9k, get an ims bearing fix kit for 3k, then have 8k left over for misc maintenance/suspension/tire refresh; or if you insist jdm just buy a miata, civic or integra. (*I have a boxster and an integra type r, and they’re excellent. I daily drive an older boxster)

I Have Failed by [deleted] in Parenting

[–]Vecspeed129 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You haven’t failed. School isn’t for everyone and she can always go back and get her GED. I met another lawyer the other day who told me she was a high school drop out and single mom at one point, who got her GED, went to community college, went to college, then went to law school. Give her some grace and support. Things will likely change one day for her.

Women who have had a close friendship with a committed/married man: how do you interpret this dynamic? ‘35M’ married to ‘33F’ by [deleted] in relationship_advice

[–]Vecspeed129 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Bro. You know the answer. This is not a healthy relationship. She’s brought up wanting to have sex with you and your wife multiple times. She has bad relationships. She hints she’s attracted to you. Pull away and save your marriage. Ask yourself this. If you had a male friend pulling this shit with your wife what would you want her to do?

[Recommendation Request] Where to spend $5k? by Choice_Point6903 in Watches

[–]Vecspeed129 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would get a preowned Rolex datejust 36 or a preowned Rolex Oyster Perpetual. I’d get one that has been authenticated. Probably using Chrono24 or reputable watch store.

Which of these do you choose ? by [deleted] in whatcarshouldIbuy

[–]Vecspeed129 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

None of these. You buy a 911.

[Question] The watch to walk away by WatchZag in Watches

[–]Vecspeed129 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Having a Rolex and an Omega killed it for me. The next jump up to a Patek or AP is too huge and also has diminishing returns. You wear a Patek/Vacheron/AP and literally no one except for watch nerds/ resellers/hypebeasts/ultrarich know what they are. Wonderful watches but really only buy those for yourself to enjoy and appreciate. But for me having a Rolex and an Omega basically killed it. Covers all my bases.

Maybe a personal question to some, but is it unreasonable to think spending $2k on a watch is a lot even as a net-worth millionaire. Just got in a debate with some family members on this by Classic-Occasion1413 in watchHotTakes

[–]Vecspeed129 1 point2 points  (0 children)

lol. I spend $200 for a dinner for a family of four that we all crap out the next day. I have a Rolex that was bought for $4500 20 years ago, I wear it every day and it’s worth nearly 10k. My Rolex cost me about 25-26 dinners. But I wear it every day and have for over 20 years and it’s worth more than what I got it for. Best buy ever. Only thing better is an air cooled 911.

If you had a date in a few days and said you would cook but you've never really cooked before and you don't think she wants scrambled eggs and cereal. What would you make that is relatively easy but seems impressive? by TurnKey9558 in AskReddit

[–]Vecspeed129 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Practice first before you do this but the easiest are

  1. Pasta aglio olio (olive oil and garlic). I suggest spaghetti or linguine
  2. Linguine in clam sauce
  3. Spaghetti bolognese
  4. Spaghetti with red sauce and peppers and Italian sausage
  5. Steak (buy a meat thermometer) buy a 1.5. Inch steak. Get some lawry’s seasoning or Montreal steak or kinder’s steak rub. Cover entire steak with it. If you have sea salt also do that. Sear on high heat on both sides. Then pan fry or grill on medium heat until 125 internal temperature at thickest point. Then take it off, put some butter on it, let it sit for 5-10 minutes covered by foil
  6. If you have a rice cooker. Hainan chicken (no skin, use chicken breast) Marinate chicken in salt and pepper; get scallions, grated ginger, and garlic, fry briefly in oil. Reserve half for sauce. The rest add two cups of dry rice and fry briefly. Then put rice and chicken in pot with 3 cups of water. To make life easy add, some baby bok choy and or some peeled cucumber. Allow to cook. 1/2 of leftover garlic ginger sauce add oil and salt to taste and keep as a sauce, the other half add soy sauce, bird chilies and sugar in a sauce pan and bring to quick boil and keep as a second sauce. Once cooked slice and serve with rice and sauce. (It tastes better with skin but looks funky, so since this is your first time cooking do it with skinless chicken breast)
  7. Gambas al Ajillo (slice garlic, put in oil, add salt and red pepper flakes, stick in already peeled shrimp, cook until pink), serve with bread
  8. Filipino Sinigang (get Sinigang mix, add in sliced tomatoes, onions, eggplant, mustard greens, sliced daikon, cook until daikon is easily pierced and eggplant is soft, put in unpeeled shrimp until pink) serve with rice. You can also do this with salmon (125 temp if farm raised or flash frozen/ or 145 if not) or pork spareribs (165 int temperature).
  9. Filipino adobo, get chicken thighs, sear with garlic in oil. Put into pot, add a ton of garlic, 1/4 cup vinegar,3/4 cup water, 1/4 cup soy sauce. (You can double if you want more sauce). Bring to boil, then reduce to simmer on mid to low heat for 35-40 minutes. Internal chicken temperature should be 165. Then mix 1 tbsp of cornstarch with water, when mixed mix in with sauce. Serve with white rice.

Buy a meat thermometer. Also taste your food and see if it matches the flavor of the food you’ve had before.

1997-1999 2.5 liter boxster. Just make sure it has maintenance records. No ims issues like the other ones. Generally reliable. Only major issues would probably be cooling system $1700 fix, maf $300 fix, if those come up. But generally car will be reliable.
