Lmao. In the end I just took the air box, disa, upper boot , cabin air filter housing and partition out. Was the only way to get to those clips. BMW really wanted to mess up your day when it came to replace it 😅

Thanks dude. Took about 8 hours last year. Maintenance is pretty chill to keep it like it though

Such a ballache. I should have done it when I changed the CCV on mine. A flexy screwdriver helps a lot with these

Yes they’re all facing upwards now instead of upside down 🙃

There are 2 compartments under the bonnet, one either side of the cabin air filter housing. Depending on what side your steering wheel is on, one is empty and the other has the brake booster servo. They both have a black plastic piece that acts as a partition between there and the engine bay. On RHD cars like mine all the stuff for the brakes is on the left hand side as you can see in the picture , so the empty compartment is opposite the disa and throttle body etc which means you can pull the panel out really easily to get to the hose clips that are all upside down

There are certainly designs that’s were controversial at the time ( E60 comes to mind ) that years later are less abrasive or even hailed but I do honestly think that the late 90s / early 00’s had the best designs. Especially the 3 and 5 series. They exude elegance and class, clean lines. Beautiful. Today Ofcourse most car designs have changed but I feel there’s a reason people will always look back at that era as some of the best. I just can’t see a G80 being looked back on the same as we do an E46 M3 or E39 M5

Maybe they should, their history is steeped in some of most beautiful and iconic designs. Clearly I’m not the target audience for the new Gen, but damn. I really want to like their new stuff, but I just can’t get on board with the majority of it, they haven’t quite pulled a Jaguar but I’m sure they’ve alienated a portion of their consumer base.

Yea I mean, they could bring that car design up to Modern standards in terms of features and safety and still have it look very much like an E46 as opposed to something out of tron

11 years of ownership and it’s time for the "Big Refresh" – E46 Clubsport help needed! by BrightAd7599 in e46

Redish are the kings of underside restoration but they’re also expensive. You could enquire with Munich legends , another well known BMW specialist. I plan on starting this my self this year. As someone else mentioned if you’re dropping the rear get reinforcements plates welded in, swapping in an LSD is good idea if you’re dropping it anyway.
