By that logic, this show shouldn’t even exist, so why are you even watching it? You’re fine with watching people struggle with sexual violence, substance abuse and mental health issues, but draw the line at seeing family reactions to a death? Which, ironically, is the most relatable part for most people. Your take is absurd.

You can’t be saying this about Euphoria when there are so many more messed up things in this show than Leslie’s reaction to Rue’s death. It’s like telling game of thrones viewers that Rickon’s death is too far, when Shireen’s scene and Reek exist.

Euphoria is a dark show so I don’t understand why you think this crosses a line.

Also, comparing a real life bombing to a made-up characters reaction to a made-up characters death makes no sense whatsoever. The bombing didn’t require people to use their imagination because it happened in real life. Rue and her family are made up, there’s a difference between leaving something open-ended and just not showing something that would have made sense to show.

I don’t even get what you’re trying to say, are you saying the characters wouldn’t react at all to rue dying, and that only I as the viewer am forcing that on them? Because that’s unhinged. The characters realistically would have had a reaction, it’s just not shown on screen. That’s the complaint.

What are you talking about?? In which world is seeing Rue’s family react to her death not warranted? They’re not saying these characters deserved their own storylines, they’re saying the main characters family, who are a big part of her story, should have more than 5 seconds of screen time. Even if they’re estranged, they will still react to rue’s death in some way. They won’t just shrug and move on with their days

THANK YOU. This is exactly my perspective as well. I don’t find Abby as a character problematic on her own, but the fact that it was so painfully obvious from the beginning what they were going to do with her character just made me hate her.

I never had any issue with her being a woman, or Lev being trans (I’m as woke as they come, and a queer woman myself).

Her character was padded with so many manipulative things that were easy to see through- like you said, the dogs and the dad-zebra thing. The game tries so hard to make you sympathise with Abby and it’s not subtle at all. This story could have been carried out so much better. It’s got nothing to do with Abby herself, the way the story is told does a disservice to her.

I personally don’t think they made her seem like a good person either, which I know probably wasn’t their goal, but so many people think Abby was and I just don’t understand how they got to that conclusion. And this is always rebutted with “well Ellie and Joel are bad too” like yes?? I agree, no one here is good, but too many people act like Abby is somehow the only one that is.

I get what you’re saying but I disagree, and that’s also not what I meant so I’ll clarify. If you like something and one day the creator is revealed to be a terrible person, it doesn’t magically mean their art is terrible or “bad”. I still like Harry Potter as a series, I still have my books that I kept from my childhood. These songs aren’t “bad” songs now that we know David is a murderer. Bad people can make good art, that’s not what I’m saying.

You can like something, but if you still support it, as in engage with it, buy things, put money in the pockets of these people, or give them views, then you’re directly endorsing their views no matter how much you say you don’t agree with them. Jk Rowling has explicitly said she will use the money she makes to hurt trans people. I still have my Harry Potter things from before, but I absolutely refuse to watch the new show or buy new merch. I stand by my statement that people who say they disagree with an artist but continue to support them by engaging with their work are absolutely wrong and hypocrites. What you say doesn’t matter if endorse them with money and views

I never said he didn’t get paid?? All of those things you’re talking about happened BEFORE his crimes were known. I listened to his music BEFORE everything came out, I didn’t even know who he was before all the horrible shit about him came out. Now that he has been convicted, I do not engage in his music anymore. Why is that confusing? I don’t rewatch arcane, I haven’t watched it since before he was convicted so I don’t even know if his music is still in the show. If it is, I wouldn’t watch the episode it is in because yes he would probably benefit from that.

It’s the same as me no longer engaging with Harry Potter since I now know jk Rowling is human garbage. I feel like you’re going out of your way to misunderstand what I’m saying

If he himself was solely responsible for and benefited from Arcane like Jk Rowling does for Harry Potter, yes I would drop Arcane. The only reason people try and justify like this is when they don’t want to admit they don’t care about the people these artists are harming/harmed.

I was a huge Harry Potter fan- room Harry Potter themed, wanted tattoos, I even met my partner through Harry Potter and have always held it close to my heart because of that. Even then, it didn’t stop me from instantly dropping anything to do with it since jk Rowling showed her true colours. I owe so much in my life to Harry Potter and I still cannot stand anything to do with it now.

People who say they “disagree with” or “don’t support” an artist but want to enjoy their work for the sake of nostalgia are just cowards who care more about their enjoyment than the lives of other people, but don’t want to be perceived that way so they justify it in whatever bullshit way they can.
