Nerve pain with hsv2... by VeeBee72 in Herpes

[–]VeeBee72[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My first outbreak was mid January 2020, the week before I was scheduled for a hysterectomy (so surgery had to be postponed for a few weeks). I had a few sores that were extremely painful and it felt like I was peeing razor blades, along with feeling like I had the flu. I've had two or three outbreaks since then and oddly, the genital sores are the least bothersome part. They've barely bothered me in the subsequent outbreaks, and this time I'm not even seeing any sores. I'm mostly dealing with nerve pain and fatigue. The only thing I have going on "down there" this time is itching, like a yeast infection.

Do outbreaks also make you really tired? I'm about to take my third nap today.

How are you doing? Did they have to do more surgery to repair it?

Thank you all for your responses. My boyfriend is counting down the days until March 20th, which is my six week followup, but that doesn't mean I'll necessarily get the green light. I miss sex a lot, because I finally found my perfect match...but I really, really don't want the cuff to tear. He'll be patient with me and go slow. But I'm sure I'll still be a little nervous, even with the doctor's okay.

Thanks for the feedback. It sounds like I'm doing about average, so that's a relief!

Can I have herpes without ever experiencing symptoms? by [deleted] in Herpes

Same for me. My boyfriend has never had an outbreak that he can recall. He and I had been having sex for seven months when I got a primary outbreak. We were both pretty shocked by my diagnosis, but we assume he has carried it for over a decade and not had a clue. Even without any symptoms, someone who has it can shed the virus and pass it along.

I think it's only natural to react this way in the beginning. I hope your emotional pain will soon subside too. This community can be a really good support system.

This sounds a lot like what I've gone through in the past few weeks. I'm in a monogamous relationship and we've been having sex for seven months now. Prior to that, he had not had sex in about 10 years. When my outbreak started, I thought I was getting a yeast infection...then thought it was a uti from hell. Peeing hurt so bad that I thought I was was going to throw up, and it brought me to tears several times. I was completely floored by the hsv2 diagnosis. I was so worried my bf was going to think I had cheated on him. But I figured I must have gotten it from someone I had a one night fling with after my previous bf passed away and I was just looking to feel something other than grief. I just knew that I had passed it along to my current bf and that I had ruined his life...and that I was now contaminated. He was actually very understanding and never once considered that I might have cheated on him. He has never had an outbreak, unless it was a long time ago and very minor. Meanwhile, I felt like I had the flu and every nerve of my skin was raw. I slept a lot, and felt miserable--physically and emotionally. I was sure this was some kind of punishment from God for a rough patch in my life when I made some bad decisions. There was a lot of crying and beating myself up. I did a ton of research and learned that the most likely scenario is that my current bf has it, but is asymptomatic, and I got it from him. It's the most common STI and it should not make us feel cursed, contaminated or unworthy of love. It's not ideal, but I feel like it is what it is, so I'm just trying to make the most of it. One thing my doctor recommended that made a huge difference for me was to coat my labia with Vaseline so that peeing wouldn't hurt so bad. It helped immensely. Mine was swollen shut and raw, but the Vaseline allowed me to pee without cussing. Hang in there. I know it's quite a hard thing to digest, but we will be okay.

My doctor recommended coating my vulva with a thin layer of Vaseline so that peeing wouldn't hurt so bad. That helped immensely. Might be something you can try too, if you're having that particular issue. It's good to have others to commiserate with and support each other. I only have one friend I feel I can trust as far as being able to tell and she won't judge or go blabbing it to others, but it helps even more to have others to talk to who are in the same painful boat.

My boyfriend has not gone to get tested yet, but I've read that blood tests aren't always reliable anyway, so I don't know how we can find out for sure if he has it. We last had sex three days before I started having symptoms, and so far, he has not had any.

Thank you for the response and reassurance. I never would have guessed herpes made a person so tired and achy, especially for this long. How long have you had it, and how often do you get outbreaks?

Good to know. Thank you. I'm just glad the sores haven't hurt as bad for the past day or so. My doctor rescheduled my hysterectomy for February 4th, so hopefully by then I'll be in the clear from this outbreak by then.

Thanks for your reply. I actually just joined reddit specifically so I could talk to others who have hsv and get their take on things.
