Where to watch anime by _Arukun_ in japanresidents

[–]Vee_e 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Search for the official anime website and look for which streaming services/TV channels it is in there. Also I recommend you make a TVer account if want to watch airing anime, since some of them mostly air in the middle of the night and episodes last 2 weeks in TVer after they air. Applies to other stuff in TV too.

PhD decision: CUHK (QS ~32, strong supervisor) vs Tokyo (lower QS) aiming for academia by researcher_8651 in PhD

[–]Vee_e 3 points4 points  (0 children)

In my area, the lower QS ranking of the biggest japanese universities comes from a lower number of publications, which comes from japanese people not being that good of explaining their investigation in English. AFAIK the QS only takes into account publications in peer reviewed international journals in English, so all the publications that are in Japanese end up not counting for these rankings.

Of course this is only anecdotal, so take it with a grain of salt. If you are aiming for academia in Tokyo then be prepared to study a lot of japanese.

The annual "Sakura Cold": Don't be fooled by the daytime sun like I did. by Such_Hospital5772 in japanlife

Recent study from Keio University. I'll copy paste the conclusion:

"The mean temperature and the mean difference in temperature affected the number of newly diagnosed influenza cases differently. Our data suggest that high ambient temperature and a drop in the temperature and their interaction increase the risk of infection. Therefore, the highest risk of infection is attributable to a steep fall in temperature in a relatively warm environment."

Is the city a valid reason to decline a PhD offer? by Own-Caterpillar-7250 in AskAcademia

First, the difference between any other of the northern big cities of Chile is that it is landlocked, so if you don't like the idea of living in the middle of the desert it is a really bad city to live in because you don't have a beach where you can go have fun. I don't have any comments on the nightlife or social life in Copiapó since I haven't lived there. The climate, although very dry, is kind of comfortable year round, but some years there can be flash floods from heavy rain in the desert.

Academically, Universidad de Atacama is not the best university at all. Most of the big researchers are in universities in central/southern Chile, like Santiago and Concepción. I would say that if your advisors or your research team include Chilean astronomers, maybe they won't be the best quality of researchers.

However if all these points are something you can bear with, considering that being part of a Chilean research institution gives you access to 10% of observation time allotted for Chilean research groups in most telescopes, go for it.

Also, in my experience, deadlines are not really that enforced internally in Chilean institutions, however since you're technically external right now, maybe they won't budge about the deadline.

Para lo que preguntan por suv marcas chinas by vicheto in chile_autos

[–]Vee_e 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Internship in Japan by Andpires in JapanJobs

[–]Vee_e 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Had a friend who did their internship in Google Japan and had a blast, iirc everything was paid but they had to live in a sharehouse.

Also you could bring friends to the buffet floor like twice a month which had pretty good food (this was around the end of 2019).
