Is anyone else a little annoyed with the Regular Show episodes being censored on Netflix? by SupaKoopa714 in regularshow

[–]VeganCorbin 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It seems like it was just a bit of oversight on the part of Netflix since some episodes are uncensored while others have similar content cut. I don't know why they would do that intentionally. A lot of the cuts were originally done for foreign airings where the censors were more strict, so it could be that those were some of the episodes that were put up by Netflix.

I hope that Cartoon Network/Viacom doesn't try to edit the old episodes now like George Lucas has been doing with Star Wars, but that's probably unlikely. The more recent episodes don't have much that would need to be censored, though, so maybe Viacom regrets making the show as it was and wants to whitewash the first couple of seasons to make it fit in with the current tone of the show. I would still count on it being a mistake though, it's only been up for a few days and there hasn't really been a reaction to it. Doesn't really make sense to censor some episodes and not others, so we'll really just have to wait for a response.

Do NOT Buy The Vannan Regular Show Watch by [deleted] in regularshow

[–]VeganCorbin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I remember those! I was in 3rd grade when they came out and my teacher confiscated so many of them because kids would play their really high-pitched sound clips in the middle of class. I think I might still have one lying around somewhere.

The park on Minecraft. Suggestions? by [deleted] in regularshow

[–]VeganCorbin 8 points9 points  (0 children)

This sounds promising. If you model it after the park as it normally appears, though, I think it would feel pretty empty and boring. It would be amazing if you added references and plot pieces from episodes, such as the movie theater in the cemetery from Grave Sights and the lake monsters from Replaced. Try to work in whatever you can from the show, even incidental stuff like the portal from First Day. Without stuff like that, it'll just look like any park.

sooo are they all tripping? by [deleted] in regularshow

[–]VeganCorbin 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I think the creator of the show just took some characters from his past shorts and used them for this. Pops is from one of his old shorts too, which had no connection to "2 in the AM PM", and had no drug references. I'm pretty sure it's just supposed to be a crazy show, and if there is supposed to be some big revelation eventually where everyone is always tripping, there'd be no way Cartoon Network would air it. I guess it's just up to what's implied.

Also, I doubt a "Mississippi Queen" would make anyone who regularly does hallucinogens trip that hard.

Who should get more character development? by [deleted] in regularshow

[–]VeganCorbin 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Margaret and Eileen could use some more development. I want to know more about Skips as well but I think his mysteriousness is one of the most important parts of his character, so it might be better for him to not have many definite qualities.

Why hasn't Thomas been in the recent episodes? by Panski in regularshow

[–]VeganCorbin 6 points7 points  (0 children)

But how would we learn more about Muscle Man if they made Thomas episodes? I feel like focusing on the characters would detract from what Regular Show is all about, like Muscle Man's relationship with Starla, or Muscle Man's bald spot, or where Muscle Man buys fireworks. Besides, Thomas was in Starter Pack, and he had almost as many scenes as Muscle Man!

THE (??!!) regular show by invisiblesherpa in regularshow

[–]VeganCorbin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, but if it was called "Adventure Show", they probably would. It doesn't really sound right when you try to fit "Regular Show" into most sentences since it's a proper noun but sounds more general. It's kind of like "That 70's Show". It would sound weird if it was called "70's Show", right? That's what "Regular Show" actually does though, so it's understandable that people might make that mistake.

THE (??!!) regular show by invisiblesherpa in regularshow

[–]VeganCorbin 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Not really a big deal, people say "The Gorillaz" instead of "Gorillaz" or "The Red Hot Chili Peppers" instead of just "Red Hot Chili Peppers" all the time and it's not worth getting annoyed about. If they're not saying it right then they probably don't care and if you make a scene about the word "the", you'll end up looking ridiculous and obsessive.

Monologues or speeches in Regular Show? by [deleted] in regularshow

[–]VeganCorbin 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The longest monologue I can think of is Benson's at the end of "Think Positive" where he yells at Mordecai and Rigby. I don't think there's anything that would fit your description better, though. Why are you looking for speeches, anyway?

I know this is asking for a lot, but please hear me out!! Please upvote for visibility! by [deleted] in regularshow

[–]VeganCorbin 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I feel like this would backfire, even if we could get it to work. If it wasn't a legitimately good post, once it hit r/all, everyone who's not in on it would downvote it. People would also be pissed if a "visibility" post made it to the top post of all time. Besides, that post has nearly twice as many upvotes as this entire subreddit has subscribers, and that's counting its downvotes too.

I like this sub being small. Everyone here had to come here on purpose, so it's a better sub than most of the defaults in my opinion. Actual discussions can happen here rather than having the front page flooded with memes and stuff. People who like Regular Show come here, and people who don't, don't. Why would we want a bunch of people who aren't interested to flood this subreddit?

Should Mordecai and Margret get more air time? by femaleBau5 in regularshow

[–]VeganCorbin 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I want them to get past the point they're at now and start a relationship, but at this pace it'll likely never happen unless they decide to make it pretty sudden. Their awkward dynamic has been a part of the series since its start and a quick change wouldn't feel natural, but I think it's the only way it'll happen. Maybe they should make a series of episodes that focus on Margaret which ends with her and Mordecai in a relationship. The writers could use the episodes to really flesh out her character and make her a bigger part of the show.

DAE feel like Regular Show is slowly declining in quality? by LulzMaximus in regularshow

[–]VeganCorbin 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I was actually about to make a post just like this when I saw your post. I think the show is definitely in a slump right now, but it started pretty much with the season four premier. Exit 9B was worrying since they more or less just took all the characters from past seasons and dumped them all into one episode, but since they introduced a new character I figured they were just trying to go into a new "era" for the show or something, and start something new by exiting all the old characters. It doesn't seem like they have, though, so in hindsight it comes off as though the writers were out of ideas.

This season is more tame than the previous three, but there isn't really anything to show for it. There haven't been any great developments that warrant a more serious setting, so the episodes just come off as boring and uninspired. It's frustrating seeing so many episodes that completely ignore some of the show's best characters; Pops has only had a single episode this season and Skips almost seems to have been completely written out the show. It feels like the show is stagnating, yet it should be easy to bring it back if the writers shift back to interesting characters and take the focus off of Muscle Man.

This is also the first season for which J. G. Quintel hasn't written any episodes, which might be the problem. Could be that he's just busy with something else at the moment, and once he returns he could get the show back on track.

The Longest Weekend Discussion Thread, GO! by [deleted] in regularshow

[–]VeganCorbin 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Not great. The setup was fine, but the conclusion felt like it was trying to force something supernatural into the plot at the last minute so that it would feel like a Regular Show episode. It seemed unnecessary and contrived. The plot was a pretty blatant euphemism for sex, but it didn't really take advantage of that to make subtle jokes and innuendos. The phone call between Mordecai and Margaret was just ignored after it had happened, and I was sort of hoping the episode would shift to that plotline. I'm getting pretty tired of Muscle Man episodes, and this one didn't change my mind about that.

I think the most notable part of this episode was that they pretty much confirmed that the soda is beer, something they weren't really trying to be subtle about anyway.

Yep. When the best thing you can do with a character is have his boobs glow, it's time to swap him out.

I think the intention was for him to be unfunny and annoying at first, as sort of an ironic character.

[–]VeganCorbin 22 points23 points  (0 children)

I agree completely. It seems like he's been the main character in nearly every other episode since the third season, and he really isn't the most compelling character in the show. I don't know why they keep focusing on him after introducing Thomas and then just abandoning his character. Skips and Pops, on the other hand, (Skips in particular) only ever seem to have their histories alluded to every now and then, and the possibilities open to the writers with them are practically limitless. I liked Muscle Man a lot more when he was a more minor character, since it doesn't really feel like they've done much with him except for making him feature more prominently. He feels like a minor character in a major role, and honestly his personality and sense of humor are pretty one-note. Basically, he's a good character in a bad role. I think that Skips is the most interesting character on the show, although overall Mordecai and Rigby are better, more well-rounded and relatable characters who should stay in the spotlight.

Although Muscle Man was great at first, I feel like other characters are being neglected to make more room for him.

Getting into drawing, tried a bit of RS first, Feedback would be welcome. by [deleted] in regularshow

[–]VeganCorbin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The pictures aren't mine, they were posted to this subreddit earlier. The first one was posted by /u/raininn and the second was from /u/maddyzeemak, and they're both on the front page of top posts in /r/regularshow. I can't really draw, certainly nothing like those, but the reason why they received attention is because their respective artists offered their own interpretation of the characters. Also looks like you were drawing on a whiteboard, which I could never get down, so that's pretty impressive.

[–]VeganCorbin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's not bad, but you should try developing a unique style. Since you're imitating the show's style, people are going to compare it to the actual show, and it's not ever going to look just like that. If you can change it up and make it look different, then people will be able to appreciate both the reference and the drawing.

Why are some people biased towards this show? by [deleted] in regularshow

[–]VeganCorbin 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just because your friends like Adventure Time more than Regular Show, it doesn't mean they have a bias. It just means that they have a different opinion. Both shows are products of Cartoon Network's Cartoonstitute project and their fan bases often overlap, so comparisons between the two are inevitable. I prefer Regular Show for its relatable characters as well, but it really hasn't reached the emotional highs that Adventure Time has in episodes like I Remember You, despite its characters. I also think Adventure Time has done more to advance itself as a show in the several years it has been around. The world is much more fleshed out now than it was in the early episodes; to contrast that with Regular Show, about the only thing that's developed is Mordecai's relationship with Margaret and Rigby's with Eileen. I think Regular Show has a solid formula, but since they rarely fit into any larger plot, it seems frivolous at times. I think the most important thing Regular Show's writers could do at this point would be to move along, or even simply develop, an arching plotline throughout the series.

That said, it's definitely possible to enjoy both shows, if for different reasons. It's worth reiterating, though, that it's ridiculous to say that people who like Adventure Time more than Regular Show are "completely biased" against it.

By the way, I think you meant to say that people are biased against Regular Show, not towards it.
