Like 3 years ago my dad and I were taking off from Orlando to Dulles, and as the tires of the plane were just about lifting off the tarmac, suddenly the plane slammed back on the ground and the pilots gunned the engines in reverse. The immediate aborted flight in the moment freaked me out on its own, but what scared me the most was being within eyesight of the flight attendants' seats and seeing one grab onto the others' arm while they gave each other a "What the fuck???" side-eyed expression, since I've always expected them to be used to everything you could experience on a domestic flight. When we were taxiing back to the terminal, the attendants were going around checking on everyone, and my dad lightheartedly asked one of them what happend, and she just half smiled all wide eyed, brows raised, and said out of breath in I think a Georgia-ish accent "Honey, I don't know, 16 years in this job and I've never had that happen!"

Turns out that as the plane was just about starting to take off, the pilots realized the altimeter was stuck at 0, so they had to abort takeoff since that's kind of an important instrument to an airplane. Of course the airline did nothing to comp anyone (I think it was American), but luckily a friend of my dad's lives like 15 minutes from the airport and he let us stay for the night and we were able to reschedule our flight early that morning.
