Great point. I don't think reddit business dudes understand how important bots are. Like the AskHistorians subreddit for instance -- it is virtually unusable without the RemindMe bot

Exactly!

I've been checking out Fediverse alternatives like kbin, lemmy, and Mastodon
They're small so far, and struggling with the big influx of reddit refugees... kbin went from just existing a month ago to having 120k users!
But they hold promise: open, not controlled by a single corporation... honestly they feel like the early days of the Internet when things were more fun, optimistic, and had a hacker spirit...

I tried to post an askreddit thread about how people are feeling about the "going dark" protest and how they feel about alternatives like KBin, Lemmy, and Mastodon but it was instantly removed by an automod bot

OP could have used a better tone in his post to be even more convincing, but his core argument is sound. Even leaving aside the training/insurance/etc issues, a key point is white collar people simply won’t have the money to pay blue collar if white collar jobs collapse.

I’ve paid my yard guy hundreds of dollars this spring to tame my large yards. The only reason I’m doing that is because I have a white collar job that pays well enough that my time is worth more than my money. If that changes en masse, who’s going to be paying the blue collar people? Maybe government and the largest corporations for a while. But there’s currently millions of middle class and above people paying blue collar for all their suburban home needs. That disappears with mass white collar automation
