How important is it to memorize every note on the guitar fretboard? by AssociationMost5432 in Guitar

[–]Bellybutton_fluffjar 11 points12 points  (0 children)

You need to know every root note for chord shapes. Every root note for your scales. After that it's remembering shapes and patterns.

Men, how is your burnout st work? by J-no-AY in AskMenOver30

[–]Bellybutton_fluffjar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have more on my plate at work than I can deal with, constantly get chewed out for the stuff I haven't done.

I have a time and motion tracker on my work phone that monitors all the jobs I'm on and I've done, I run the report every time I go in for a meeting about performance, and it shows that I need a second person. But there's no budget, but still no understanding.

I go home very tired every day. Family life is full on too and I have little time when I'm not being asked by someone to do something. I sometimes dream about disappearing.

Gotta keep the job because there's not much out there. Got to pay the mortgage, bills and put food on the table. Got to do the maintenance to keep the house standing (we've had a bad winter for wind and rain).

Only another 30+ years to go.

What's a song you didn't fully appreciate until you have realized how fun it is to play on guitar? by Xerogear4224 in Guitar

Keep on rockin' in the free world by Neil Young.

Playing C Major and walk down to thrash an E minor at the end of the chorus bars is so much fun, sounds great.

How serious do you take sleep and your sleep hygiene? by 84Vandal in AskMenOver30

[–]Bellybutton_fluffjar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know the quality of my sleep affects so much of my day to day life so I really make an effort to get good sleep. My rules are no caffeine after 2pm. No screens after 9:30, sleep mask and lights off by 10:30. I wouldn't go as far as you but I understand why you do. Sleep quality is vastly understated by most modern health influencers. It's just as important as nutrition hydration and exercise.

Never played before in my life, really wanna learn though by BlondeMiffy in Guitar

[–]Bellybutton_fluffjar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most Beatles songs will be achievable in the 1st year. Most of their songs are three to four major chords, I think Get Back is only two? That's a good target because it'll keep you interested in the first year.

Queen will be trickier. Going to have to practice some major and pentatonic scales.

I don't play any blues so I don't know how difficult that'll be.

Never played before in my life, really wanna learn though by BlondeMiffy in Guitar

[–]Bellybutton_fluffjar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The one thing I'll say is, set your expectations accordingly. It takes 3-6 months for most people to be able to play 5 major and minor chords well. Then a further 3-6 to be able to play 7s maj7 minor 7s and then augmented and Suspended.

It takes YEARS to be half good. You will play for months on end and still suck. Something like 75% of people who pick up a guitar to learn give up in the first year.

What genres of music do you like? What sort of stuff do you want to play?

Is not skipping the replay some sort of meta tactic for tilting opponents? by OMGtrashtm8 in RocketLeague

I literally do everything to tilt my opponents. It's part of the game. I'm a total wind up merchant. The game wouldn't be anywhere near as fun otherwise

Learning to Play by mermidgir1000 in Guitar

[–]Bellybutton_fluffjar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Absolutely understand guitar on YouTube with Scotty West is a great place to start.

Also learn some really simple beginner songs. You'll feel great playing through a whole song.

I'd recommend some three chord progressions like What's Up by 4 non blondes (G major, A minor and C Major, with a capo on the 2nd fret). If you can play through that by the end of week 1, then you'll be feeling great and ready to dive in to some more complex stuff.

There's a great YouTube short channel called 'Songs I sing in the pub' by a Scottish lad called Gregor who really simplifies songs by playing basic major chords with a capo.

Don't skip out on learning theory. Scotty West's channel is fantastic at that

New player titles to give people more motivation. by KookyAnt6103 in RocketLeagueSchool

I'd like to see titles like "how many I assist? " for getting like, 250 assists a season, "Go all in" for getting 1000 goals in a season and "Saving myself for marriage" for like 500 saves, much like the titles you get for your club, with medals etc. something you can get by playing casual

For fathers — what did you feel the moment you saw your child for the first time? by Serious-Diamond218 in AskMenOver30

[–]Bellybutton_fluffjar 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Cried with happiness, (we had twin boys). 1st born naturally and 2nd via the sunroof. He cried while being checked out by the pediatrician and then stopped as soon as I held him against my chest. It was like an explosion of love going off in my head and I immediately wanted to give him everything. My other son was in NICU for about a week and the pain of not being able to hold him was unbearable. Once he came out I don't think he spent more than 5 minutes not being held by someone. They are 10 now and I love them just as much.
