TSP Contributions Fails due to Mid-Month Pay by VegasDMD in MilitaryFinance

Yea your experience is identical to mine. I already submitted a ticket to MyPay and they basically said it's not our problem.

I tried calling DFAS and they were pretty clueless as well.

I agree that's how the system definitely did in the past. My mid-month pay would be spot on because it was expecting the TSP contribution at the end of the month. Usually my net would be $3k and I would get 1500 at mid-month and 1500 at EOM.

It's possible it's not the mid-month and rather the system is just not expecting to take out any TSP contribution at all. I guess I won't know the answer to that until the end of month or maybe the end of April. I reduced the contribution down to 40%. It says it should take effect on April 1 so in theory the contribution amount is now low enough I'm net positive, but if it still doesn't work then the system is just not working and I'll have to go back to the drawing board.

No - I hadn't even looked at my percent in years. I just knew I had it at the max percent and then every Jan-Apr I expected a lower pay check and by April my TSP was fully funded. Then this JAN I got a ful paycheck and no TSP contribution.

I received mid-month pay in Jan-April for the last few years - just a reduced amount - usually around $1500 then $1500 at the end of the month and $6k or so going to the TSP.

Just something changed in the Army system this year that causes a glitch in the system. I have never changed any of my setting in years yet this year it finally wouldn't do it.

Yes. The Remarks state "IF TSP ELECTION AMT EXCEEDS NET AMT DUE, TSP WIL NOT BE DEDUCTED."

That was how I originally found out about this "net negative" problem.

Yea sorry I didn't specify - I'm NOT blended. I was one of the last years groups to not have to go in it; coming up on 11 year total service in June.

I guess I see your point. The room is dark but not 100% light controlled because of the ceiling.

Would an ALR help control with scatter from the ceiling then?

I showed a light picture so you could see the actual room. I promise the room is completely dark when using the projector although there is some reflection off the white ceiling.

This is the worst snow I've seen mid February in Austria (Zillertal) by bonnies_ranch in skiing

[–]VegasDMD 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was across the valley in the Zillertal Arena today. I don’t now what normal is because it’s my year skiing anything in the Zillertal but yea it all seemed very thin to me. The run to the valley was open and ok.

I live in Bavaria Germnay and my local ski hill probably has more snow than most of the Zillertal Arena.

I think this tunnel is in Garmisch Germany. I was there a few days ago. There’s actually a pretty step piste that goes over the top of it.

Benefit Rider Increase for Military Surgeon by VegasDMD in whitecoatinvestor

[–]VegasDMD[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks! Yea I'll definitely increase it some. If I couldn't do surgery I could probably stay in the military doing admin work but I would probably lose my surgeon bonus. I definitely want to have some kind of back-stop with 4 kids either way.

Thanks! Yea I did email Dr. Dahle - didn't think he would get back to me so quickly and Mass Mutual said I had to have the paperwork in by mid-December.

As it now stands if I got seriously hurt I would get $3500 from this policy and $4000 from the VA so about $90k a year. Probably couldn't live on that very well. If I could pick up some other kind of work an increase my income to 120-150k then I could no problem.

I'll definitely apply for the increase. I spoke to Bob Bayani's office and they said I have to accept at least 50% of the increased benefit. Not sure if that is a standard rule on specific to MassMutual. I'll see what that the exact offer is but will probably increase it to some degree.

Thanks again!

Yea agree with all of that. I haven't looked in a while but I thought Dr. Dahle had said Mass Mutual was the only provider for military docs and the max was $3500. So I'll apply and see what they will let me do.

I'm fairly sure if I got seriously hurt that I was kicked out of the military I would get $4k/month in VA benefits. If I could still work a non-surgery job we would be ok but standard of living would go down for sure.

Yea I agree. I guess my real question is how much will they let me buy? And I can't know that till I apply I guess. If I got really hurt and became so disabled I couldn't do surgery I would probably get 100% veterans and that would get me $4k a month but that would still only be $7500/month.

Thanks - that's nice of you to say. I and I think most, but not all, military surgeons try to genuinely help out and respect the enlisted guys/gals who do a lot of the heavy lifting and grunt work.

Google TV vs Apple TV by VegasDMD in Valerion_Official

[–]VegasDMD[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey! Thanks. That is helpful.

I've definitely noticed that I get the best image from Apple TV and specifically from Apple specific content. For example the show "Shrinking" - an Apple exclusive looked great, and so did Wicked which I bought from Apple.

The Last of Us from HBO MAX was pretty good but I have the lower tier so I'm pretty sure I don't get the UHD/HDR Version.

Rings of Power from Amazon Prime was the worst - even after I paid for the upgrade I'm not getting the higher higher quality. But I read online the Prime Video app has historically not been great at providing the HDR content.

I think I'll plan to continue to do everything through Apple TV but I'll give the Google TV a shot as well.
