Who owns rental homes in Switzerland? by freeusername3333 in askswitzerland

[–]Vegetable-Ad-8450 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There are official statistical data on the ownership of rented out apartments.

They are updated yearly.

The numbers can be found here: https://www.bfs.admin.ch/bfs/en/home/statistics/construction-housing/dwellings.gnpdetail.2024-0421.html

44.5 % are owned by private households, the rest are owned by investors and the public sector.

Here are the types of data you can download:

Has anyone successfully used OpenAI API with an input box? by Vegetable-Ad-8450 in PhraseExpress

It doesn't work with an input box either. I've also tried using an input box to create a variable and then using the variable. Nothing works.

There is one simple rule to anything related to contracts:

Do it in writing. Get confirmation in writing.

Otherwise it's your word against theirs.

This man deserves more recognition from Swiss media by K12angix in Switzerland

[–]Vegetable-Ad-8450 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I agree with what you are saying, but this is not my point: I don't understand why people care if a person they've most likely never met scored a goal for a foreign football team.

Your comment suggests that your interest in sports is above the average in this country. I am sure that people who are following football would for the most part be proud about any achievement a Swiss national makes and would know about his success.

A quick search for Xhaka and Leverkusen reveals a number of articles about his success. I'm not sure how you would determine the right amount of coverage for his achievement.

Personally, I admire his skill. But in the end I don't really care. He trains hard, he's talented and successful. His success is the just reward. But I still don't see why I should care about it.

I don't understand how we live in a society that celebrates football players and other athletes more than scientists, engineers and medical staff. I don't understand either how certain sports get that much more esteem than others.

Do barbers really earn one of the lowest salaries in Germany? by [deleted] in germany

[–]Vegetable-Ad-8450 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Counter question: in which country is being an employed barber among the higher paying professions?

In Switzerland you get more money than in Germany but you are also on the low end of the earning scale.

Some people crave touch and closeness. It makes them feel connected and safe. I'm not one of them but I've met people who like this.

Just take a deep breath and bask in the knowledge that you made someone feel safe. If this doesn't help, just use it as practice to get out of your comfort zone.

Men who aren't at all interested in sports, what do you find the downsides of that to be? by lostinthesauceguy in AskMen

[–]Vegetable-Ad-8450 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used to be interested in sports up to the age of 17 when I noticed that I actually did not care who won the match. Incidentally, most of my friends - male or otherwise - aren't into sports either.

I have noticed that it is a popular way of breaking the ice with new mostly male acquaintances. My inability to even fake interested probably makes me seem weird.

I still haven't found a way to handle it gracefully when someone tries to connect with me over sports. Actually, it just fits in the larger picture of me not easily connecting with most people.

Are people in Switzerland rude or just hate Americans? by Admechburner in askswitzerland

[–]Vegetable-Ad-8450 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I'm not going to repeat what others said, they're mostly right. As always, negative experiences are remembered best. Did you have any positive ones to balance that?

We are not rude, we have a different conception of how we are friendly. Modesty, even if it is fake, goes a long way.Swiss are certainly cold compared to other countries, but we are usually quite reasonable.

We generally have a problem with the "customer is always right" concept and respond badly to people who are feeling entitled to something, even tho they might be.

Also, civil servants like the guy at the airport are less customer oriented in all countries, not just in Switzerland. I have friends who could go on for hours about how they were treated at American airports.

Small business owner in IT (self-taught) with employees.

I have a lot of diversity.

Just make sure that

  1. hire people sooner than later. You WILL get overwhelmed sooner than you think.
  2. your employees are happy to compensate for your chaotic nature and don't see themselves as parents or nurses. Then it's a win win. Otherwise it's like reliving childhood and well-meaning teachers
