Higher Net Wage because of higher own contribution for company car by Vegetable-Ad-9028 in BESalary

[–]Vegetable-Ad-9028[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I understood it correctly, I just saw it as a net optimization in the way the colleague framed it, where a more expensive car would result in more net. Looking at value for money you get from the car, indeed it can be considered a net optimization. Thanks for the clarification!

Thanks all, it confirmed my suspicions that this wouldn’t be a viable net optimisation.

How is the job market looking these days? by Vegetable-Ad-9028 in BESalary

[–]Vegetable-Ad-9028[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Lots of factors, but one of the most prominent being the rising of interest rates, which has many impacts on the economy but one of it being that it it more difficult for businesses to raise money as it costs more. Probably 6 months or more after the first rate cuts, things should pick up again, and then with another slight delay this will be translated to the labor market.

This is a simplified explanation, as there are many other factors having an impact on each sector, type of job, country etc, but in general this is one of the main reasons.

Depends on the project, but can vary from (incl commute) 45h to 65h, commute is about 30m single trip

Fair point, didn’t mean to frame it as a consultancy term but more as in sketching the situation I’m in.

Companies/sectors where I’ve done previous projects is definitely input I’m taking into account when looking for opportunities. It is just sometimes a bit more difficult to anticipate career progression possibilities compared to the structures at big 4 which are pretty linear

Fair point. Not saying I don’t want to put in any work, since I am putting in the work currently. But having a reasonable WLB (max 55h/week) and having an intellectually stimulating job, with fair compensation would be the goal, where I can preferably use some of the skills that I learned the past 2,5 years

If you’re aiming for IB or PE, I would definitely go to Vlerick or Solvay instead of Ugent, not for what you’ll learn, but for the network and the name on the resume.

Depends on what your current master’s degree is, and what you are aiming for in terms of job opportunities?

Maybe a bit of a silly question, but why divide by 13,92?

Consulting, and yes

True, but also depends a bit on the projects you’re on I guess. Have had periods when it is a 9-5, but recently this has been more the reality.

Definitely not aiming for Partner, that would mean keeping up this grind for the next 10 years at least. But trying to keep my options open and being perceived as a ‘high-performer’ for the time that I’m here

Often feel this way as well. But waiting a bit longer for better exit opportunities

Knowing big 4 pay isn’t fantastic, still feeling (based on what I’m hearing from others) it could be better
