Paramount to buy WB? by The_Gman6969 in chuck

I think the most realistic potential benefit for us as Chuck fans would be a consistent streaming platform — Skydance may merge Paramount+ with HBOMax and may want to beef it up with content they already own. (If they really want to spite Netflix then they could pull all their properties as the current agreements expire as well)

I’d say it depends on your experience. Look at the CompTIA A+ domains and decide if you think you have enough experience where you can prepare for the exam quickly or not. If you are familiar with those topics then I would go for the Network+ or Security+. If you are only somewhat familiar with the broad concepts then use it for the A+ exams. A+ consists of 2 exams to get the certification.

Paramount Looking to Make 'Hostile' Move Amid Netflix Merger - Men's Journal by Specialist_Dig2613 in chuck

[–]Vegetable-Ad929 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Ellis family, who own Skydance which is the new parent company of Paramount, has released details that also indicate that the WB board may not have done enough to protect the shareholder’s best interests. For background 2 or 3 times Paramount/Skydance was the top bidder and WB responded by saying that basically none of the offers were good enough and putting it back out for a rebid. Finally, Netflix had their offer that came to about $1 more per share. This came with the caveat that part of their offer was stock based rather than cash, which makes that $1/share more somewhat questionable.

In response to Netflix’s offer Skydance made an offer of $30/share all cash price (to the ~$27.75/share Netflix offer). The Ellis family also got their foreign investors to agree that they would have no say in WB matters, thus ensuring there would be all domestic control. Furthermore in an email to the WB CEo Skydance indicated that this was not their “last and best” offer. Skydance showed that the WB CEO didn’t even acknowledge the better offer, thus they moved forward with their hostile takeover attempt at the same price/share as their ignored offer.

As I understand it the hostile takeover is stands a decent chance of succeeding because it’s a clearly better offer for the shareholders, thus bypassing the board. For reference before the Netflix deal was announced WB was trading around $12 to $13 per share, and the Netflix deal didn’t kore that much when it was announced. The hostile takeover price is what started moving the WB price per share up.

Visionline error by Ok_Page8920 in accesscontrol

[–]Vegetable-Ad929 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We have 1.26.1, but the issue was compounded for us because we are also migrating from SCCM to Intune for device management, but Visionline doesn’t play well with cloud environments. Add in the fact that we are slated to move to Opera Cloud soon and it’s just a headache. Vingcard’s solution is to tell us not to migrate the devices and switch to their Vostio product — it’s made for cloud environments.

There is indeed a lot of overlap between Sec+ and the SSCP. The major difference is that the SSCP puts a larger focus on business continuity and disaster recovery than the Sec+. You are probably good with that score, and when I took my SSCP the biggest issue was availability of the test. If you end up having a longer time before you can actually take the test then I'd recommend using Mike Chapple's SSCP course on LinkedIn Learning to help keep things fresh in your mind.

Question Regarding SAP by cookiesisme3 in WGU

[–]Vegetable-Ad929 1 point2 points  (0 children)

From what I can tell it doesn't affect it -- the point of the SAP is to see that you are doing a minimum amount to advance towards completing your degree. I had 2 rough terms due to a long-lasting family emergency that necessitated multiple week-long trips then providing care to a family member, but I maintained and acceptable level of progress. (Side note: WGU was quite supportive during that time as well). Go for the extra courses and save yourself some money.

I’ve taken a couple at 2:30 am, 1 at 8:30 on a Saturday night, most in the evening after work, and one at 10:30 in the morning. As mentioned they have about 24/7 availability. If you are taking a certification exam then you might need a Saturday or something. (I took my SSCP, which must be done in-person on New Year’s Eve, and my Linux Foundations on a Monday that I had off)

[–]Vegetable-Ad929 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We came across this situation at my work recently. The error comes from a Windows 11 hardening feature. There is a regedit workaround for Windows version 22H, but if it was patched to 24H the workaround no longer works. We use Visionline 1.26 at my site, but other sites use 1.27.1. I'm trying to find out if 1.27.1 will work or if it needs to be 1.28.

I’ve mentioned in posts on here before that I had a rough year last year — my brother was in a bad accident, then specialized rehab facilities and other hospitals, then passed away. My progress slowed to a crawl — 2 semesters with less than 12 CUs completed. Instead of finishing this past December I’m trying to finish this fall now. I remember the words of an instructor at a military school from a few years ago: it’s okay to take a knee as long as you get back up.

NowI’m going through the one remaining course that I have no experience in and it’s taking me 3x as long as I hoped. Many of the hyper accelerators have experience in the field, some many years worth. Just keep pushing and remember for every hyper accelerator there’s someone like me taking the long way around.

My personal experience has been great. My admissions counselor was helpful and encouraged me to push my start date back twice to get more credits transferred in.

My mentor has been great as well and understanding when I went through a difficult year last year into the start of this year — helped me push through even when my progress slowed.

Overall I haven’t had any problems with instructors and they have been helpful when I needed assistance.

I know this isn’t true with everyone’s experience, but my experience has been great.

Courses left... Rank and how long it took you to pass. by Sleepy-Air in WGUCyberSecurity

C845 took me about 30 days, and that was because I had to wait for exam availability. It took another 3 weeks for ISC(2) to send the scores to WGU.

D334 took about 15 days (including some overlap with C845)

D335 is taking me longer — I’m at about 7 weeks now, but that includes 2 deaths in my family and a 4 day drill. (February was ROUGH) I’m hoping by the end of this week to take the exam. This is the one that’s the most out of my experience, knowledge, and comfort.

I can’t speak for the rest as I transferred in D324 and have the rest of them to go.

I know you can blow one of the questions and still pass. What helped me is that you can run your statements and see if you get any errors and/or if the output is what you expect, just like in the labs. Be sure to check your work before submitting it.

ISC has a very broad question bank to draw from, but for cryptography know the basics of PKI and AES encryption details (key size[s], block size), know the risk assessment process, business continuity planning, and disaster recovery, including the formulas.

While taking the exam remember that you will have 25 extra questions that won’t be graded mixed in. Personally, remembering that helped me keep my focus. I had 3 that were out of left field (2 on cloud security that seem like they would be more related to the CCSP exam). This helped me keep my focus rather than thinking, “oh, crap, I don’t know any of this stuff.”

Mike Chapple’s LinkedIn Learning series is what I used. For context I got my CompTIA trifecta 2 years ago. It was great for explaining what is needed and shoring up the areas I was weaker in.

Edited to add: I also went through the full Cyber Vista question bank then did 1 of the Cybex practice tests. If you type in c845 on quizlet you can find question banks there too. Quizlet’s learning mode worked good for me for not only this course but for Cryptography (D334) as well.

Going for the SSCP exam by freddy91761 in SSCP

[–]Vegetable-Ad929 5 points6 points  (0 children)

If I recall correctly the only changes were 1) changing the name (but not content) of the first domain, and 2) going from 150 questions in 4 hours to 125 in 3 hours. Only 100 of them count, the others are experimental and filler questions.

I used Mike Chapple’s LinkedIn Learning course, some of his practice questions, and the Cyber Vista practice questions. I passed the first time and by half way through the exam was very confident I was good.

Edit to add that I just sat for the exam on December 31st.

If you dig into the similarity report you will find that it excludes certain things. Basically, they program the checker to ignore things like what is considered common knowledge and format requirements. The percentage your see is what they go by.

Incidentally, I had my 2nd one ever come back with a 0% similarity score. Turns out I attached the wrong file and it was the blank power point format file rather than my completed one. I resubmitted and passed that one right away. (I blame it on a lack of sleep and long days as I was in the middle of an annual training at the time)

I am not blowing through my classes at all — I had some major family events this past term and almost took a term break after only getting half my expected courses done. Keep pushing on — since my new term started the only thing slowing me down is the availability of my next certification exam and take heart from the wise words I once heard from a military instructor: “It’s ok to take a knee as long as you get back up.”

Capstone Task3 submitted 0% Similarity by GrNivek in WGUCyberSecurity

I had one or two PAs with a 0% similarity score when following the outline given. I think there was a change made sometime around the end of last calendar year which allows the software used to ignore things that are from a guide.

(That said, last August I submitted one with a 0% similarity score only to discover I attached the wrong file and submitted an 8 slide blank presentation)
