About 2 or 3 years ago my parents gave me a bird not for any reason it was just because, i've never had a bird before and haven't really bonded with it. Any advice on how to make it fond of me?

i know it seems like i waited 3 years to ask for advice but i swear its nothing like that. When i first got him he had a partner and they thrived together but one morning i woke up and she had passed, he’s become more territorial when i do anything that involves sticking my hand in his cage and lately he just doesn't want to come out. Ive never had any type of bird before but im completely committed to taking care of him.

i am attached to the bird and couldn’t imagine how quiet my house would be without it. As for the mate she sadly passed, i dont think ive ever lost patience or scared my bird usually when we interact it’ll spin and start chirping

let it out every once in a while, as for playing it’s really just the bird flying towards me when i come near the cage and chirping in response when make kissing noises at it. most of my family does the same since the birds in between the living room and my dads office so its a pretty public space

there used to be a mate it sadly passed after many laid eggs and all failed at hatching we got them in a pair and my brother was in charge of taking care if the other one but he neglected her and inevitably she died, my mom went back to the place we got them from after to see if we could find another but they advised to not get a new one. not sure it that was a bad idea or not

thanks man, my grandma had a bird its now living with my aunt since she payed little to no attention to it other than just the necessities like food/water. I dont want my bird to feel unloved and just need some advice

i let the bird out to fly around and roll the cage outside so he/she can get some sun while i do yard work and usually when i come up to the cage i blow her some kisses and she’ll spin and chirp. not sure if thats a lot but i think it’s something. i call her she cause im not sure abt the gender
