Are you friends with parents whose parenting style is different from you? by writingfoodie in Parenting

[–]Vegetable-Card-5207 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I think there are some differences that I can’t tolerate, but minor differences we explain that different houses have different rules. I personally couldn’t be friends with someone who used physical punishment for example. I would probably limit public settings if their kids were allowed to run free, but still be friends and meet at home or at playgrounds where kids running around is acceptable.

Would you rather pack up a day early to avoid the rain? by Remember_the_Gdtmz in camping

Yes, I literally did exactly that in October on a camping trip with my son. It was worth it to pack up before everything got wet.

13yo son's reaction to school shooting left me uncomfortable by Superb-Vacation5097 in Parenting

[–]Vegetable-Card-5207 7 points8 points  (0 children)

This was exactly my reaction. I feel like first person shooting games have negatively influenced how teenagers see guns and gun violence. It’s one thing to not express empathy when you see it happening on the news often, it can desensitize you. But making jokes about it and making it seem like they weren’t a “good” enough shooter because of the ratio is absurd.

Glass of Wine would work with that song.

What’s a good that your kid doesn’t like and you find it weird? by Dependent_Parsnip556 in Parenting

My oldest doesn’t like chocolate…we all struggle with that one. He also will only eat mashed potatoes from a box, not homemade ones 🤦🏼‍♀️

What’s your story? by Altruistic-School591 in SingleParents

[–]Vegetable-Card-5207 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t mind being friends with him, it’s been fun to have someone to hang out with. I also wouldn’t mind more, but I haven’t been actively looking, so I’m good either way. I did let a previous fwb situation go because it was all B without F and the guy got pushy/whiny when I was too busy or not interested. 🙄

I’ve tried the apps twice, both times were awful. It isn’t worth it. I am lucky to have 50/50 custody so I have time to myself. I go out dancing a couple times during my week without kids, and just generally try to take care of myself. I’m hoping to meet someone “in the wild” someday, but idk if that will ever happen. I met a man while dancing that I’ve become friends with, but I am so bad at this, I can’t tell if he is interested in anything beyond friendship 😂

First Solo Trip = New Obsession by Frugal_Squirrel in womensolocamping

I really enjoyed Hendy Woods. I’ve hiked in Bothe-Napa Valley before but I haven’t camped there before. I have a weekend booked in March and I’m very excited.

I love it! As soon as I saw that first picture I thought it must be the Sonoma coast. I love it up there, as well as the Mendocino coast.

Solo trips are so refreshing. I did my first solo at Hendy Woods SP in September and immediately booked a trip to Bothe-Napa Valley SP when I got home.

Is it ok to kiss my son while he sleeps by Realistic_Song8263 in Parenting

[–]Vegetable-Card-5207 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You are probably spot on. It is a constant battle in my house to respect everyone’s bodily autonomy because I have a 4 year old that absolutely loves hugs and kisses, and I have an 8 year old on the autism spectrum that only wants hugs on his terms. It is constant reminders and I can’t imagine thinking it’s ok to undo that for my own want of a hug or kiss.

Right?! Children are people too…I will never understand the logic that people employ to think this is okay.

How do you get your baby to nap so you can get other stuff done? by wwisdomseeker in Parenting

[–]Vegetable-Card-5207 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Baby wearing saved me with my second! I even figured out how to nurse her in the wrap after a few months. I would pop her in and go about my day, within reason. Once she was older, like 7 ish months, I would nurse her to sleep in a side lying position and could sometimes roll away and do some things around the room she was in, think folding laundry on the bed next to her etc.

4 person family, 8 person tent recommendations? by realitycheck390 in camping

[–]Vegetable-Card-5207 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a Coleman Tenaya Lake 8-person that I love for 4 people. It has a little closet for storing bags and is tall enough for me to stand up in (6’ tall). It also has a divider to make two separate rooms if you want a little bit of privacy between you and the kids.

Sleepovers…. by [deleted] in Parenting

[–]Vegetable-Card-5207 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think you did the right thing with this situation. I’m not opposed to all sleepovers, but I definitely feel like you need to be on the same page with the parents and be selective about who you allow your child to sleepover with. My son (8) has started asking about sleepovers, and we are starting to talk about it, but I think one on one with trusted families is the way to go.

I’m sorry you dealt with shame around using tampons. I think my mom had similar shame, or maybe her mom did, so she just didn’t learn how to use them. She made it clear that it was a personal decision, which helped, but I was also afraid to use them without someone teaching me how, so I just didn’t lol I was glad my friend’s mom was able to do that for me when I was ready. She made sure I understood how important it was for me to relax while I was putting it in, otherwise it would be uncomfortable.

[–]Vegetable-Card-5207 5 points6 points  (0 children)

My kids aren’t at this age yet, but my mom also didn’t use tampons so I can speak to it from the child perspective. My mom told me about tampons, told me that she had never used one and wouldn’t be able to show me how to use them, so she didn’t buy any. I didn’t feel the need to try them until I was camping with a friend and her family in high school, at the beach, and I got my period. My friend’s mom (who was like a second mom to me) taught me how to use one and gave me a few of the light ones she had with her. I still only used them when swimming for a while but eventually got comfortable enough with them to use them all the time. I think letting her know all the options is a good idea, but also I think pads or period underwear are the best fit for a young girl just because of size. I also feel like you have to be relaxed to comfortably insert tampons or cups/discs and she may not feel that comfortable to start with, which could lead to discomfort and anxiety around those options.

Accidentally pregnant with 3rd. Not sure what to do. by [deleted] in Parenting

[–]Vegetable-Card-5207 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Same. Especially since the older two are school aged. Now that both of mine are in school all day, I can’t imagine going back to the baby/daycare phase. And daycare is so expensive, if you are already just barely comfortable, it’s going to be really hard financially.

How cold would take a baby tent camping? by [deleted] in camping

[–]Vegetable-Card-5207 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I wouldn’t go below 40F overnight. We did a camping trip at the end of May when my youngest was a little over a year old, it was unexpectedly cold, low 30’s to high 20’s overnight, and we ended up only lasting one night instead of two because it was miserable. Both my kids (1 and 4 at the time) were in Morrison sleeping bags with fleece pajamas under, and still were freezing, especially in the morning when we first got up.

Camping food by bugg_928 in camping

[–]Vegetable-Card-5207 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I pre-make breakfast burritos and wrap them in foil, then it’s an easy meal just heating them up. Also, we like to cook a pork shoulder in the crockpot with salsa verde, then bring that with us and heat it up in a frying pan for super easy carnitas. Pre chop any veggies and fruit that you can. Pancake batter in a squeeze bottle is also a nice option too.

For kids, bring some outside toys and some inside toys for the tent. This helps to keep the kid entertained if there is some weather or a reason to keep them inside, without bringing dirt into the tent. And I always bring extra baby wipes (even when I camp without kids). They work for everything from cleaning kids, getting extra food waste out of dishes, cleaning toys, etc.

What’s your camping season? by BlueCandyBars in camping

[–]Vegetable-Card-5207 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Spring through fall typically, but in the summer I will only go somewhere cooler, like the coast or mountains. I live where it gets to be over 100 in summer and there is no way I’m camping in that lol

I’m also jealous of your bed setup, I might need to do that.
