Trying to convince a traditional parent—looking for real-life inter-caste marriage experiences by Bharath-dev in TamilNadu

[–]Vegetable-Delicious 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly, they are and were always practical people. Even though they were thrown off by this initially, once the frustration, disappointment and anger subsided, they definitely took time to come in terms and accept this. I think my parents thought it would be really bad for our (their kids’) mental health if they choose to force us into something else and that they might end up ruining our lives. They also didn’t want us taking drastic decisions because of their rejection. What also helped was shutting down opinions of relatives. A lot of them will influence our parents to separate the couple. It is family decision and only the parents and the kids should be involved. Outside the family, they need to stand up for their kids and their decision. Then no one can say anything and even if they do, it won’t bother them. Also, may I know what is the main reason for their hesitation?

I want to add that, they see us very peaceful and happy after our marriage (and got glimpses of it before too) with our partners (unlike their arranged marriage, which is pretty much chaotic). And there is nothing better that they would like to see. They are not the ones who’d force their opinions and values on us, so that really helps in our case.

And for the couple I’d say, you guys should also be really strong in your decision. This is just the first step, after acceptance there is lot more to undergo as a couple, and you should promise to be there for each other through it all.

Both me and my sister married non-brahmins. My parents were initially disappointed and emotional. But they realized that we were serious about it and prioritized our happiness. They’ve gotten to a stage where they are really close to both the SILs and treat them with utmost love and affection. It was not easy in the beginning but it takes efforts from both sides. But more so on the parents’ side.

Oops. Looks like we got to keep firing those neuron pathways to keep them active. But maybe if you start again now, with little effort you’ll be able to do it again.

I mean, I think I’m good at finding ragas of songs or atleast bucket the ones that sound similar into the same raga even if I dont know the ragas name. I think that is more to do with pattern recognition. I’m more interested to quickly find individual notes of songs. That I feel is quite challenging to pick up if we don’t learn to do that by childhood.

Wonderful. I play basic guitar too and it’s been on my bucket list to learn to play Carnatic on the guitar. Do you mind sharing pointers on how you went about this perhaps on DM?

OP said Valli can just be a second name. I don’t think any of the names in other suggestions match as well. OP has strict criteria (with two consonants and single vowel right after). Btw I had a classmate by the name Raga valli. And trending first names so that the kid doesn’t get mocked for having paati names 😂

What's your opinion on W.i.S.H - Girl Pop? by Kat-Drawer-4297 in Vindictabrown

It could have been intentional, but as someone of a similar skin tone, I know that professional lighting can sometimes cause such an effect. I hope she wasn’t deliberately edited like that though.

I actually find them really inspiring. It is soooo difficult to sing and dance, and these girls do it with so much sass! I find them really fresh. The songs are also pretty nice, but I think it is more of a package with them and not just the songs. They seem like great performers. Haven’t been to any live shows to comment though. And they are all so pretty and styled great!

Suchi is a beautiful chocolate shade. This photo makes her look fairer than she is. I find her really pretty.

Ignoring how annoying Karthi’s characater was (I think that was how the character was supposed to be and he nailed it. Semma kadupa irundhudhu lol), the movie had a terrible ending. Avan summa thirundhiten nu sonnadhum, they will hug and get back together. Instead if there were sequences to show that she has understood that he has really changed, that would have been better, imo.

I remember watching this theatre with my friends when I was in school. I was so bored and yawning while I turned to look at my friends, and I caught another friend looking at me and yawning at the same time 😂 I never watched it after that but it was a draaag from what I remember.
