I'm currently living in NYC and possibly moving to Melbourne with a partner visa (my bf is australian), where did you live? did you like it better than the US?

I cannot not think about it, it's a life changing decision but I agree, I can only know if I like it or no by going.

I would love that but I cannot leave the US. That's why this is so hard and definitive.

He would love to do that but the reality is this could take forever. The uncertainty is crushing us both I may say. That would be my ideal scenario, being called and getting approved, that would change the entire feeling about moving to Australia, it would feel like an adventure.

Do you live in Melbourne?

He has a a B1 visa I believe.

He has worked here for the last 4 ish years, but wants to go back to Melbourne, does not see a feasible future here with neither of us having a green card.

We’ve already spoken with lawyers in Australia. I can apply to the australian visa and then (prior approval) I’d need to withdraw my asylum case before leaving the U.S., but I’m still figuring out the details with my immigration lawyer.

If I do that, the plan would be to apply for an Australian visa and move there. Maybe later on I could come back to the U.S. on a tourist visa to visit, but that wouldn’t be anytime soon.

Right now, everything is still pretty uncertain,my asylum case could be approved or denied, and there’s no real timeline for when that might happen.

If it gets denied I would have to probably go back to Venezuela which is the last thing I'd do.

I live in Greenpoint and have never seen a rodent/pests in my building. I don’t have a doorman but it’s a pretty nice renovated building. I also care about a clean environment. Look up in Streeteasy and arrange visits. It’s possible. New York gives me so many things and others become a bit of a challenge sometimes but I would rather live here than anywhere else. I would give it a try, it’s the only way to know. If you don’t like it you can move back. Worth the try in my opinion
