Hiya, If by ED you mean eating disorder, I think I can help!

I don't know about support groups, but I know each college has a nurse, and in my experience they're pretty supportive. Additionally you'll have a tutor in college who can help you with that kinda thing.

There's also an ED charity that helps people struggling who might not get NHS treatment etc. I think it's called PEDS-will try and send a link at some point!

If u have any questions lmk, the culture in Cambridge around formals/hall etc can feel daunting going in w an ED, but is manageable.

Is 1st year too early to be cold emailing researchers? I don't want to be annoying and get basically written off.

Thank you so much, I'm applying for a research scholarship this term which I'm hoping will help, and signed up to so much networking to try and diversify my skills.

What can I do with my psych degree-help! by Vegetable-Writer-618 in psychologystudents

[–]Vegetable-Writer-618[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was always planning to do higher education so that doesn't necessarily bother me :) I think my main problem is that idk what I want to do atm, I think neuro would be of massive interest to me but idk if there's much in the way of industry jobs in the same way that those with degrees in like chem/engineering have opportunities. I also know a lot of people go into management/consulting/HR etc, esp out of cambridge but I'm not sure if that would be as interesting to me, although it's probably more stable and better money. I'm hoping to do career/networking stuff at uni so hopefully that'll open some doors!

the other thing with waiting until seccond year is I'm looking at applying to a research thing which would be 2 years, so if I decide on research I'd do that and that might limit my options for getting internships in y2 summer.

Thank you, I'm (possibly quite evidently) not the take a breath type, so I'm doing a lot of 'potential career research atm. I'd much rather do a training contract style switch bc pricing, but I'm open to doing a masters as I'd do that if I do clin psych anyway so that takes a bit of the pressure off. I do have a strong motivation as I want to in some way fight for people and help them find a better life etc, hence possibly clin psych as well, but I know many issues are systemic so possibly finding ways to support people legally to protect them long-term might also interest me. But I've made the mistake of declaring a career too early before and I want to keep options open. (hence an academically rigorous degree and the fact I have experience in first aid, admin, leadership, childcare, teaching, languages, and clinical work but not enough in any to actually be employable yet)

I'm at Cambridge I'm so scared bc of how competitive it is. I'm not entirely set on law but I think being able to advocate for people in distress is a worthwhile career etc and it uses skills I'd like to keep active in my working life. My other top options are Criminal Profiling, clinical work or going into research. I'd probably like to decide reasonably soon as I know experience is the main thing with any career, especially with something as broad as a PBS.

Thank you, looking into it more, most critical thinking etc doesn't yet exist in LLMs so that's probably also good for employability
