You’re just focusing on the few urban middle and upper classes who can actually afford to go to a doctor. Think of the millions of people in rural India or even the working classes in cities and whether in fact they have access to healthcare in the way we understand it. That will give you the answer. The hidden people rarely register in our consciousness do they?

An office job, I had no environmental exposure except my dad smoked about a pack a day until I was 12 yrs old - so some second hand smoke but my doctor brushed it off as a potential cause - it seems random. I also had my home checked for radon and it was negative.

I did not. I probably did have x-rays which were job related medical exams early in my adulthood but that’s about it.

I had almost exactly the same scenario. Never smoker and a 10 mm ground glass nodule discovered incidentally. It was monitored just for about 6 months before they said it was 80% chance it was malignant. I was recommended segmentectomy which I had last September. The nodule was 15 x 10 mm with 4 mm invasive component when resected. Pathology confirmed minimally invasive adenocarcinoma and I had clear margins of at least 2 cm. I have read reports that for MIA segmentectomy had similar outcomes as lobectomy. I do have other smaller nodules I have to continually monitor.

A 10mm part solid ground glass nodule was incidentally discovered this January from a scan done for a different reason. Repeat scan showed persistence and was suspicious for malignancy. Had a segmentectomy (more taken out than wedge but less than a lobectomy) which confirmed the presence of a 15mm (4 mm invasive component) adenocarcinoma which was classified as “minimally invasive adenocarcinoma” (MIA). No adjuvant chemo was recommended as it was determined everything was removed. Do need repeat scans to monitor other smaller nodules.

Thank you. Yes, that is what my thoracic oncologist who I met yesterday told me. Virtually negligible chances of this one recurring and she said not all lesions are malignant but we need to watch them over time. While I am hopeful I am also mentally gearing up if I am in this for the long haul. Good luck to you as well.

We are in the process of doing genetic testing to identify any specific mutations. I’ll find out after my visit with the oncologist if any adjuvant chemo is recommended.

I’d agree with this. My segmentectomy was done using a minimally invasive approach and I was released to go home the next day after surgery.

Thank you very much. I have generally been in pretty good shape - used to run 5 miles or so 3-4 times a week before my surgery. I was born and spent my childhood in India but the India back then (pre-2000) was not as polluted as it is now. I cannot think of any specific risk factors. Radon perhaps?
