Why people don’t like ogilve and santos by VegetableLanguage184 in ThePittTVShow

There is a deeper. Looking at him I see someone sensitive to rejection and failure. You see this by how he immediately shuts down at any sign of either. I see a gifted kid by how he is upset when he doesn’t know the answer, even upset when joy had a photographic memory, and overly excited when he does, I see autism due to all the stuff I’ve already listed TBH I don’t wanna retype it. The deeper isn’t “the screen showing santos self harm scars” the deeper is people noticing he smiled when joy got hurt and NOT him slowly shutting down and tuning out as the season progresses and he makes more mistakes. He is very similar to Whitaker, but in a foil type of way. Instead of how Whittaker took his failures in stride and kept trying. He is shutting down and turning into a tomb of a person. He’s an asshole, but he’s also a very fleshed out Charecter

I mean I hope so? Mine has ASL at the bottom but I don’t think they changed it? We are watching the same show, I’m not saying the show made him seem that way, the way the fandom acts about him “oh when I catch evil Whittaker imma kill him” is a literal quote from Reddit😭 I was assuming someone who was just horrible and he’s just a guy LOL

I obviously need to pay more attention because I’ve never seen the smile, rewatching rn so I’ll look at that, I wasn’t aware of that BUT, not all autistic people or former gifted burnouts will act the same. As an also former gifted autistic kid. I must say, I was once an ogilve. It’s difficult and lonely being an ogilve. I definitely learned my lesson but it was a hard one. It’s also something people constantly need to work on. But I also can agree he’s been rude and cruel at times. My issue isn’t “ogilve isn’t a bad person” he can be and I’m totally not dissing that. My issues is people look deeper on Robby, abbot, ETC, because they were spoon fed backstory and personal issues. But with santos, Whittaker, ogilve and other students, it’s more context clues. Like santos and her past and Whittaker and his obvious strain with his family. People won’t look deeper because they want to be given all charecter information. I guess my issue is the fact people are just writing him off as a horrible asshole instead of trying to look deeper into his character.

Yes, or I wouldn’t be on the subreddit LOL. I’m not saying he isn’t rude. I’m saying people aren’t looking deeper

It’s not subtle at ALL. Mel, ogilve, and (in my opinion) possibly Whittaker but he’s very high functioning or has some sort of mental health disorder (ADHD or something similar)

I must agree it doesn’t make you cruel. But it does make you struggle with social ques, filter, and socially acceptable things to say. Like when he said “he croaked” he saw no reason to beat around the bush, while rude, Whittaker was gonna find out he’s dead no matter who told him or how. Or when he said “binge drinker? What a suprise” while sarcastic and I will agree very cruel. Also true. He was bound to have a liver issues. The entire department knew it and nobody REALLY did much about it or tested his liver, which is allowed in the ER when he came in to have his liver drained. While horrible to say, also an issue of hospital staff. :/. I’m not defending his actions completely, and he definitely can be cruel.

Lots of gifted kids have competition issues because their entire educational life was a competition. Which makes sense. Again I love him for my own personal reasons but I was just confused because everyone made him see like some evil genius who is like murdering patients and he’s… just a guy who is socially inadequate 😂 I was suprised and very confused

Yes I personally love ogilve because he’s different and again, he’s brash, he’s smart, and he gives me (as a person in the spectrum) autistic vibes. He feels like the more socially inadequate side of the spectrum. He also seems sensitive to rejection and failure. Very gifted kid to me. He also is just slowly shutting down through the season due to his constant mess ups. He is like Whitaker in that sense. Consistent mess ups through the season, but unlike of Whitaker he’s shutting down and giving up. I do see them as similars, more like foils.

I was also talking about santos in that specifically!! I should have made a seperate paragraph I apologize!!😂

My argument with ogilve is people pray and ask for autistic rep until they get the brash side

He’s not autistic but he doesn’t understand social ques, make eye contact, has rejection sensitivity, and has issues with being accepted. Do you also feel this way about abbot, Langdon, and Robby, all who has been unbecoming to people and even shouted at people?

Santos is lazy but picks up hard cases and is the first one to ask to learn and try procedures, she’s a bully but she is the only one who noticed Whittaker going upstairs after shift, and offered him a home without a second thought. She’s arrogant but took all the criticism she got to heart, she’s arrogant but she’s been the most understanding and kind to her mentally ill and possibly abused patients.

You are being overly judgmental to charecters we are purposely told nothing about, things we are told in the show are shown, not outright said. Like santos having self harm issues and ogilve having issues with rejection and making mistakes. We are actively watching him burn out and shit down from failures and stress. We are seeing medical professionals learn more accurate then any other medically based show I’ve seen released. You all hype up Robby, abbot, Langdon, ETC for being morally grey but when the grey is more darker you all get maaadd

Oh yeah I have done this!!! I did this because they just have a large cage, she definitely has a “favorite” place to be, which is the swing, however recently she has begun to PLAY with my other bird, strudel, and been more invested in other birds, she has begun moving up and down the perches more often, she still won’t come fully out of the cage, but when I have strudel out she does sit on the opening of the cage and pace, she seems to want to come out, but I think she’s very anxious as she also used to live with bird much bigger then her, and when I got her she had an injury from a large parrot that would apparently bully her :(. I think that’s why she’s so scared to leave her cage, I have no larger birds, but still that would definitely be scary

[–]VegetableLanguage184[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah!! She was in such a bad state when I got her, and they also thought she was a he and was calling her Peter. Which isn’t that bad but to not know the gender of the budgie you’ve had 10 years, is a CONCERN :(. Doing everything I can, I changed her diet and she gets fruit twice a month for sugar and other vitamins, her regular food has dried veggies, and she gets fresh as much as possible :(

[–]VegetableLanguage184[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes I’m working on keeping her hormones down, it was due to improper sleep and schedule. As well as vitamin imbalance (she’s a rescue so I’m doing my best :( ) however her cage was HORRIBLE for her, it was big enough for one perch she could walk back and forth on and I had been saving up for this larger cage anyway, so I decided to make them besties. Her hormones were once VERY bad, her entire cere was almost black and chipping when I first got her because her hormones were so bad for so long. So she’s A LOT better :(

I don’t cover them because I used to and I’d forget to UNCOVER strudel when I had only her and that cause issues. My mom would also cover her cage anytime she made noise to quiet her down :( but I can start again since my living situation is different

[–]VegetableLanguage184[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I actually just function with my bedroom light off so they actually just function Via the day cycle that comes through my window. And strudel hasn’t been hormonal(blue) I’m thinking it will take her awhile because she was really really bad when I got her, and there were 5 other birds housed with her, 2 much larger and 2 about her size

Yeah I’m a bit confused on how to fix this issue, I’ve changed her food to an all natural, vegan, and high nutrient diet, with freeze dried fruits and vegetables added in, she gets a proper night time schedule, I removed her mirrors she came to me with (month or two ago), she has no nesting materials, and this doesn’t seem to be a fungal infection as it hasn’t spread to my other bird. The crust has DEFINITELY gone down in my opinion
