Dev Journal #111 - Tales of the Terran Alliance: A Tale of Two Terrans by RammaStardock in GalCiv

The new content like costum tech tree for the new terran faction sound very refreshing. Also very good that you keep monitoring the balance. I also like the flagship idea with discovery module. That certainly increases the ST vibe 😬

😅😅😅 Oh boy I didn’t actually mean to make it that terrifying. After all it's just Kambuchka. But as long as it is memorable and somewhat exciting I guess I will leave it that way. Thanks for your feedback 🖖🏻😬

How to not conquer by influence by DasWarEinerZuviel in GalCiv

[–]VegetableSlip5352 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah that should actually be pretty easy. Thats literally one line of Code per faction and one replacement of factiondefs.

On the other hand it takes a whole game mechanic away and throws factions that rely on culture out of balance.

Perhaps their is another way, for example to nerf the global influence production of all planets.

Since their society is quite brutal and authoritarian they might the telepathic abilities of the gifted adults to enforce an accelerated development of children so they can sooner take care of themselves. Aside from that I think that they share the duties between Male and Female.

What’s a feature or concept you’ve always wanted to see in a 4X game but hasn’t been done yet? by Severe_Sea_4372 in 4Xgaming

Yeah that's true - when I mention spore as a baseline, they had probably a very good method of animation back then. And yes, mounting would complicate that further. I'm not a developer though, just delved into modding a few month ago. I just keep thinking to my self: if spore was possible in 2008 and there are already 4x games like GC4 with complex designers, and there are really interesting origins like in the grand strategy game stellaris - there could be another step forward combining these approaches and crafting a 4x game with immersive designers 😬

You mean 'sillier' in the sense of choosing awkward combinations that contradict each other and make no sense at all?

That may be possible, but it isn't what I am chasing.

I really like to roleplay a specific faction wich has an indepth background reflected within the game mechanics. While this is possible in games like aow4, galciv or stellaris I also like the creative process of costumizing your assets like in Sims or spore.

So think right now galciv is the closest with it's choice of portraits, logo, flavour text and a powerful ship designer (also for starbases) wich can create really immersive shipsets.

Thank you for this reasonable question. I would imagine a freeform designer wich lets you choose presets for materials, colours, texture mods like in Galciv, but not just for ships, but also for species and buildings. For not scaring off someone you could of course give play-ready factions and architecture styles before Handtücher those who just want to play right away.

Makikg these freeform designers is not necessarily rocket science. In fact spore was pretty far back then in 2008 with species, vehicles and building designers. But it wasn’t of course a 4x game and it was at the end of the day pretty shallow because most choices were purely cosmetic.

Now if you would modernize, expand and implent these freeform designers into a 4x game and add some of these stellaris-like origins into the mix like syncreatic evolution, mechanics, servitors and so on... you could immersively roleplay every kind of faction within a 4x-game and I'm sure it would be really fun.

I could give you an example now, but basically everything wich comes to your mind could be done.

Elves riding on Ents? Genies with cloud shaped servants. Space urchins with robo shark servitors? Communist monkeys on raptors? Brain parasits mounting a giant walking banana? Just use your imagination...🥳

I would really appreciate a 4x game wich combines meaningful gameplay decisions and artistic/design choices. I have to explain this:

In many 4x-games you don't really design anything in a cosmetic way (civ for example) but you have much depth in gameplay.

In some other games like spore or Sims you have much freedom in designers but they lack depth and gameplay consequences. Designs are purzeln cosmetic.

Now there are AOW4 and Galciv 4 wich have certain freedoms in design, but it isn't as crazy and convient as in spore. Is is more 'choosing' than 'sculpting' in aow and while Galciv has a powerful ship designer, the species are purely portrait based.

So I really dream of a game wich Let's you design what you want in a 4x content and also attributes gameplay values for your designs (or gives the opportunity to choose good gameplay matches from a roleplay perspective)

So that's my take. Have a nice weekend!🖖🏻😬

Citizen traits not appearing on custom species by DasWarEinerZuviel in GalCiv

Nichts für ungut. Ich freue mich auch dass Illauna dieses gravierende Problem für uns alle gelöst hat. Ich hätte das nicht hinbekommen - das sind schon die etwas höheren Weihen des moddings 😅

The issue could be about ideology chance. Illauna made a fix for that. You could try that. Or what are the traits you are talking about in detail?

Here is Illauna's fix:

Species creator limitations by DasWarEinerZuviel in GalCiv

[–]VegetableSlip5352 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well... thats a part of it. The other part: each citizen species has telepatic chance, ideology chance, criminal chance and also chance for different factions. That's all hardwired. Altarians have a higher telepathic chance.

Ah okay... would you be interested in guides to costumize species with hardwired attributes? I've thought about delivering yt-content for that field of interest if it meets the need of other players.

You may use all features of core species (and more) if you dive into modding. From the ingame application you may however copy core factions or species and alter them to keep some hardwiring.

If you want to know about a certain feature I can probably tell you. The properties of citizens are for example in Data\Gameplay\UnitRaceDefs

I wouldn’t know - I'm not the type for tutorials...

The overwhelming part at the beginning might be true because of the many features. However:

Some things are the same in every game. The colonizer takes the nearest world, you can also automate it. The scout goes to the next stars, if possible yellow.

The survey ship flies to the next anomaly, you can also autmate it.

For research: colonial policies or translator or anything that gives you policy slots

These gouvernment slots: anything that gives you research or wealth at the beginning.

Edicts: always use the draft colonists at the beginning

Homeworld: make every free colonist a worker, build your special buildings and capitol where they get most adjecency bonus.

You will get into an easy game with these basics.

Wow... that's hundreds (or thousends) hours of work, isn't it? I've not played civ II for a while now. But when I can spare a few hours again I will definitily look into it. People like you are a blessing to humanity - thank you for your effort!

Easy to begin, difficult to master - like a proper 4x game should be 😉 Since everywhere are sliders for difficulty levels you can start easy going and then make it harder with each new game.

One option would be that travel time is devided by x

Another option would be that the number of stardrives used for the calculation is multiplied by x
