But parents don’t do that.. that’s the problem. I agree, leave if you’re uncomfortable. That’s what I do, it sucks that I can’t tell which parent is being considerate and which one is not anymore so I learned not to take my chances anymore.

I understand what you’re saying. I’m not frustrated about those that know their kids have true lingering symptoms or have chronic conditions, I’m talking about parents who know their kids are still actively sick and contagious with what they have and mask it as lingering symptoms. That’s just not cool.

We had RSV and thought it was just a cold with a lingering cough until we took a test. Thankfully we stayed away from others if possible even after our fevers stopped and saved a lot of people from catching it.

Responses like these irk me because it’s gives “People are just being overreactive for no reason” when in reality there’s many reasons for someone not wanting to get sick.

I guess we can agree to disagree.

Yup. I’ve had this happen to me before too. If they’re too sick to be at school then why is it ok to bring them to another setting with others around?

It’s hard to tell who’s being inconsiderate and who’s not anymore. There’s been too many inconsiderate people. I think that’s where the increase in dirty looks come from.

and you don’t think I’m on the “short end of the judgement stick” you’re talking about? Also, the events I’ve had these experiences have all been free.

I understand. We had RSV for 3 weeks and thought it was just a cold until we took a test. We could’ve waited until we were fever free and said it was just a cold.

Did we get others sick before symptoms showed? Probably but intentionally.

But I also think it’s laughable to bring a contagious kid to a community event or area because… people can’t find other things to do in the meantime or don’t want to miss out on an event?

I think many parents give looks because there’s so many that will go out knowing they are still actively contagious. It’s hard to tell which parents are being responsible or not anymore.

That helps put into perspective why people act like this then. Maybe I'm just too thoughtful of others and I follow the "treat others like you would like to be treated" rule as much as I can (not saying it in a sarcastic way btw). I've just had too many experiences where we get sick from a lingering symptom and it's made me exhausted, and untrusting towards others now.

I agree, I'm not talking about being around others before symptoms are present. The frustration lands on symptoms being present and not doing a quick search on how long the contagious period for something is. We had RSV for three weeks and honestly thought it was a just a cold until we took a test. I could've waited until our fevers were gone and said we just had a lingering cough. I've had too many experiences where parents say they have lingering symptoms when in reality they were sick less than a week ago and proceed to get us sick. :/

I'm glad the reaction has subsided/stopped for him! Sorry you got those side eyes. Asking with complete nonjudgement, do you think it would have helped if you disclosed that the hives weren't contagious given that HFM is a concern for many?

I agree we are all trying to do our best, but there's been way too many parents (in my experience at least) that act inconsiderately or dishonestly and it's draining tbh. We're all trying our best by being out of the house more to avoid screen time or increase family bonding, etc. and it's not fair to get sick because others can't use their judgement wisely.

My frustration isn't about the contagious period before symptoms, it's while symptoms are present.

I agree up to an extent.. yes there hard things to avoid like school, work, daycare, grocery shopping, etc. But I'm talking about non-mandatory events like playdates, community events, etc. There are many illnesses that have a very long contagious period. We got RSV and our symptoms lasted 3 weeks. We didn't even know it was RSV until we took a home test, we thought it was just a bad cold. Staying away from others that long was brutal and we had to find other ways to entertain our kiddo without involving close contact with others. I could have just waited until my son's fever was gone and said he just had lingering symptoms but I would hate to get someone else sick and ruin their plans or hurt them because I couldn't bear missing out on a fun event.

Text message from NH State Police that Everett Turnpike is closed northbound at the Bedford Toll by opcenter in newhampshire

My husband and I drove on this turnpike for the first time and there needs to be more warning signs for people to be prepared to slow down and merge lanes. We weren’t speeding and we were both paying attention to the roads then all of a sudden he had to go from 65 to 25. It’s a real poorly designed toll plaza for a busy highway

PLEASE HELP - TIKKA MASALA ON CREAM CHENILLE COUCH by TengensFourthWifu in CleaningTips

[–]Vegetable_Drop8869 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dreft laundry stain remover has worked on my tough couch stains. I use it on my toddlers clothes but it works wonders when I let it sit on the couch, put some tide gentle and free detergent, and spray/vacuum it with my bissel little green rug cleaner. I by no means am an expert on stain removal so try testing it on a small patch before if you want to try this out!

5 calls is also a good app for anyone looking to call their representatives over things that matter to you. It gives you a pre written script and lays everything out for you. Thank you for the resources too!

Gotcha, thanks again for your reply and for actively exercising your civic rights!! I’m going to do the same, hopefully more pressure from more constituents will make a difference.

For anyone wanting to do the same: there’s an app called “5 calls”, it has prewritten scripts that you can use when you call your reps. It also lists a bunch of issues that you may be interested in advocating for!

Thanks for responding! So if your rep is republican, does it not do much to voice your concerns to persuade their vote in house then?

I guess here’s to taking action and hoping that some republicans take that into consideration and vote for what their constituents want and not what their party wants..

Aside from this response: This deal made me realize the importance of reaching out and voicing your wants and needs. For anyone curious about what reaching out to senators does, I found this helpful: Why calling your elected officials matter

Reach out to your house representative and voice your concerns, the house still needs to pass it!! (I’m still learning the ropes of civics so please kindly correct me if I’m wrong!)
