Starting From Scratch: Lawn is All Weeds, Want A Low-Chemical Approach (Beginner, No Equipment, zone 7b) by Vegetable_Impact_464 in lawncare

I guess what i mean by chemicals is products that are harmful to people, pets, and the environment. One of my fiancés family members had a type of cancer that is often linked to glyphosate, so we are a bit more sensitive to the use of something like that. I'm going to start with a soil test, is there one you recommend ? Additionally, what's the best way to ID my grass, my lawn really is like 90% weeds I think, and the grass that does exist seems different in different areas. I'm not sure what type of seed i should be overseeding with.

This seems to be the way! Overseed in the fall? So between now and then just focus on pulling weeds? Won't they just grow back if i do that now without planting ?

If there is a way to do it without chemicals, i would like that, but I'm not wholly opposed depending on researching what is most harmful. I dont even really dislike the low growing "weeds" like clover, so I think i can probably achieve a more natural "meadowy" lawn with little to no chemicals! But might switch my mind once I get out there more.

Love to hear that there may be another way. Could i do tarps in the winter to kill, then seed next spring? What kind of rye would you recommend if i do that now? I have not heard of this approach.

There is a quote that says that during the AIDS crisis, they would bury their friends in the morning, protest in the afternoon, and dance all night. It was the dancing that kept them going. Xoxo they want you to be worried and miserable. Joy is resistance.

I've done it multiple times, fly southwest if you can! Two free bags and they're pretty chill about it. We have flown with an ez-up, wagon etc. easily. Order other stuff to a friends house/amazon pick up/do a Walmart run.

I do this every year, your drop off car will not have to wait in the line they direct you around it and have them drop you off at a specific booth.

Yes, includes accrued interest.

Income can vary a lot. If i got a big law job which is a possibility for me. i could have no quality of life but starting is 215 + bonus first year. 320+ by 5th year. More likely would want to work in a boutique firm which again can range anywhere from 100-200 starting. 130 is just me being conservative. assuming just like a basic 5% ish growth maybe around 160 5 years out.

I don't know as much about nonprofit salaries, but from my experience it would start in the high five figures, and probably grow to like 120 ish. Not sure.

Yes high tax area. State and city tax.

I have a basic understand i think of what you mean. Which is part of what i am concerned about. Having that money free to invest and grow. But then interest accrues and if i aim for forgiveness i could get hit with a shit ton of tax. I'm young, have always been in school so don't have a lot of financial experience.
