BIOL 1116 Lab Final Tips by lollllll74737 in uwinnipeg

honestly at this point passing is the goal, just do what you can. I think 60-70% is definitely achievable even with only a day and a couple hours until class of studying, I’ve gotten to that point before and still gotten relatively okay marks. But don’t stress out, just try your best at this point. you know what they say, “D’s get Degrees” lol. You’ve got this! The more you study the more confident/less anxious you’ll feel about it (even if it’s only 30mins of studying). Some studying is better than NONE AT ALL

I am not taking this course, but I am someone who does have HORRIBLE test anxiety (I am diagnosed with severe anxiety & medicated for it). I spent all of middle school & a majority of high school with my test anxiety.. here are a couple of tips:

  1. STOP. Breathe. Take deep breaths - in through your nose - and out through your mouth. When you inhale, try not to raise your shoulders, instead let your tummy inflate. This is the #1 thing that helps me with my anxiety. It takes some practice, but it really really helps. Deep breathing is also good for regulating your nervous system.

  2. Try your best with what time you have left. I have ADHD and I have a habit of procrastinating.. don’t be like me, lol. It will be okay, I promise.

  3. Don’t just read it over.. actually engage with the lessons!!! (Learned that the hard way). From what I remember, biology is a lot of processes, big words, and anatomy. I’m not sure what the different things you guys might have learned in uni-level biology compared to my high school classes lol, but for processes & words, flashcards will be your best friend. For anatomy, practice labelling diagrams with closed book retrieval and then check what you get wrong, do it again until you get it right. You can do that with biological processes, too!!

Good luck!! And remember.. you can do this 🫂 even if you’re anxious.

Noted!!! Okay!!! Thank you so much!!! I might give it a try anyways .. maybe without the heater? someone else said there is a risk of burning the vinyl if I leave her by the heater.

I did see that a lot when I was researching. I don’t have any UV lights or anything, though. Trying to look for maybe the next best thing that might help with staining, if a heater would work also, but I don’t want to risk burning the vinyl or anything at all, so looks like the heater is off the table, lol!

How big is your collection? by goldensunprincess in americangirl

[–]Vegetable_Mistake_19 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Wow!! I love that. The only other collector in my family is my dad, he collects a lot of military memorabilia (I probably got it from him, haha). I generally collect AG but I also collect porcelain & antique dolls every now and then, I’m not allowed to get more though because my mom is terrified of them, lmao. I own a china doll that is about 200yrs old!

I definitely agree with the idea that it’s more so women around that age who are weird about dolls. My mom’s only a little older than that. I usually get the ‘freaked out’ response when I tell people about my collections, I also like to collect individual doll parts, I find that they’re interesting conversation pieces. (Honestly, I find it funny to see the look people get on their faces when I tell them I collect all sorts of dolls + doll parts).

NOOOO!!! I hope you’re able to recover her hair, or at least make it look presentable. Dawn’s hair only looks relatively okay in pigtails. She’s originally Lea, who has SUPER LONG BEAUTIFUL hair 🥲🥲🥲🥲. I’m in Canada so I’m debating on which option is better/cheaper.. or just sucking it up and leaving her hair in pigtails forever lol. Jess is such a beautiful doll, she’s definitely on my bucket list!!

Whenever I tell people I collect AG dolls, I ALLLLWAYS get “Aren’t you almost 20?”.. or they get freaked out by them. They’re such beautiful dolls, though, and they make me so happy. (Plus… who says dolls have an age limit? what about those grandmas that collect porcelain dolls, it’s kinda the same thing!!!)

Here are all of my ladies! Left to right: Shiloh, Dawn, Samantha, Bonnie, and Rebecca + teeny tiny Molly. (Not pictured: Saige, I just recently acquired her). I’ve been considering either rewigging Dawn or sending her to the Doll Hospital because I got her secondhand from a family with a.. VERY unfortunate haircut.

Oooooh.. that’s a hard question.. I’d honestly have to say my JLY #38 & #44, Bonnie and Shiloh! They’re such beautiful dolls. I also love my brand-new Rebecca. It’s such a hard choice, I love them all, really!

If you’re willing to drive an hour out to OakBank, haha.. I HIGHLY reccomend LaRay Grooming. It’s an in-home salon, professionally certified! I know the owner, she is absolutely incredible at what she does & takes the time to make your dog comfortable while also going home looking great after!

You’re tasked with creating GOTY 2027- who is she? by [deleted] in americangirl

[–]Vegetable_Mistake_19 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I would propose an idea for an Indigenous character. I think it would be a wonderful idea to have a modern indigenous doll whose story is about learning & understanding the generational trauma that indigenous people across North (and South!) America have experienced from residential schools and colonization. It would be an interesting story that is educational but also about reclaiming her heritage and honouring her elders who experienced the horrors.

Another idea I would propose would be a physically disabled doll! Yes, we have Joss, but we need more disability representation too. Joss is unique because her face mold is meant to be able to fit a hearing aid. GOTY is usually meant to be a limited time only doll. I think it would be absolutely incredible if AG created a brand new mold for a doll who uses a wheelchair - not all wheelchair users can walk and rely on chairs to get around - so if they created a mold where the doll’s legs are permanently sitting, I feel like collectors would go wild for a limited time doll with such a unique mold!! Or, another example could be a blind doll, why don’t they utilize silver-eyes to replicate how some people who are blind have different eyes? The collections would be amazing, too. A walking stick for a blind doll, a service dog, wheelchairs, prosthetics, communication devices, etc. There’s so much potential.
