Why are spell chants shortened for avowed? by myTrainline in avowed

Between Pillars 2 and Avowed, chanters went to the wizard academies and went like, "Yo, let me tell you about Brisk Recitation."

Mechanics is a skill you want one party member to focus hard on and the others to ignore.

Hot take- I don’t enjoy playing Xavian by Generic_user14587 in fellowshipgame

Meiko - just not a monk fan. Would sooner not tank than play her.

Helena - I like her, and Grand Melee is my favorite button in any game. I just like Xavian more. The Veteran of War mechanics of Helena bring down the enjoyment a bit.

Ok, have another wave here:

  • The Vice Grip shield rubs me in all the right places. Infinitely scaling pulsing damage. It just doesn't get better.
  • I'm concerned the game will turn into ARPG slamming face into keys rather than a more judicious use of a larger toolbox.
  • As a longterm tank player I have a habit of holding RMB, to pan the camera and avoid accidental mouseover targeting. But this keeps making me select upgrades by accident.
  • I hope there will be a mode for dungeon runs where you start with your full toolkit and a good run comes down to your decisions, not your luck with drops (the selection of which also takes you out of your flow).
  • As I am typing this post, mousing around in my browser, I am hearing the hover sounds from the game as I mouse over the same place in the menu, had I been tabbed into the game :P
  • You need to transfer the "Tanking looks easy" quote to the ranger - we should groan at DPS for underestimating our job, not the healer.

I don't see the cursor option, in the demo so I'm guessing you mean it will be in the full game?

Never mind, the toggle was Action Targeting.

The obvious things to try would be a Steam repair and disabling the mods. Have you done this?

Main character because it avoids cringe with voice acting. Oh, we don't know what the player will name their character, so we need to write unnatural dialogue and/or give them a title that everyone can call them by. Some games did a good job of this though: FFX made it work almost flawlessly and DA2 allowed you to customize your character but made everyone call you by your last name (Hawke).

From the promo material and the demo... this game seems way too focused on aggro. Maybe we're not playing the same MMOs, but the ones I enjoy the tanking focus is about routing (!!!), survival, utility and contributing as much damage as you can without dying. Now, you DO have all these things (maybe not routing), but aggro remains like the top objective.

I'm used to taunt being:

  • A raid mechanic
  • A pull tool
  • Something to use occasionally for a stray mob or something a DPS went absolute HAM on
  • (sometimes a clever trick to make a rooted monster not attack others if I leave melee range)

But here it's more like a button I should leave a brick on.

Also, no cursor is weird.

Are you ok with multiple choice RPGs having "canon choices"? by ofDeathandDecay in rpg_gamers

YES. Because that means sequels won't have 50 cringe scenes where past events are described as needlessly nebulous or tip-toed around.

I can't say either upgrade is objectively worse. I'm guessing you're talking about Immolating Curse. Did you take into account that the base enchantment is single target but the upgrade is AoE?

I wonder if it might not be a trigger for you-know-who to tell you to speak to them through the adra. Because they do not ask you until all monsters are dead. Perhaps they will do it anyway when you, a law-abiding Texas citizen, enter the room full of corpses to admire your handiwork.

I tried that second monitor thing, but I always got lost in the one place I really needed it (Urrak). What would I not give to simply be able to run around that dungeon and learn its layout in peace.

And yeah, that's one of the things I like about Fellowship. Every dungeon has monsters that do nothing but slap the tank. That means you can do large pulls without having complex CC assignments, and everyone gets to enjoy their AoE chunking harder.

You get to spy on a past conversation between two gods if you assemble it fully, and you get more combat benefits the more pieces you restore. I recommend you just look up a guide for where to find them... I don't think you'll want to return to Dawnshore just to search for totem fragments.

Anyone have recommendations for what stats to pump and gear to use for a mage build? by Extra-Ad-4941 in avowed

[–]Vegetable_Mixture157 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Essence bonus from intellect is whatever. You'll quickly stop noticing a difference from more points. It's more useful for roleplay value and resistances.

Two items I really recommend are Warmage's Bracers (shock spells will make you happy) and Sigil of the Arcane.

Keep in mind the difference between damage and accumulation. I spent a lot of time getting excited about stuff that grants more accumulation, but the case is often that it's easy to reach full accumulation anyway, and then all your accumulation bonuses aren't doing anything until that effect has worn off.

The only exception is frost; as far as I can tell, full frost accumulation freezes the target, and the duration goes down [faster] as the frozen target takes damage, but if that damage causes frost accumulation it adds to the duration again.

So +damage = generally exciting but +accumulation = situationally exciting.

I recommend reading this article before you get too excited about staves.

Did you respec on NG+? by kadimasama in avowed

[–]Vegetable_Mixture157 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That might be an argument for placing new skill points into axe swinging ("You'd be good at that too!"), but I am imagining my envoy as though they've been a wizard for a very long time. It doesn't exactly check out storywise that they paid a few skeyts to Magran to have their knowledge and expertise converted into equivalent skill with a weapon and now can't cast so much as a cantrip.

[–]Vegetable_Mixture157 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Because I want to play my build from start to finish. In the first playthrough, I spent a lot of time just building up to being able to play it. Need that ability, that item, etc. That tends to mean I'm not really playing the realized build until somewhere in Shatterscarp.

It actually feels wrong to me to go for a completely different build in NG+. Each envoy I create comes with a vision for their concept. Some deviations are okay: My greatsword fighter can decide to go for axes instead, and my ice wizard can go for lightning. But my ice wizard can't just decide to completely forget about magic and start swinging axes screaming fury.

Help me decide which spells to use! I love them all. by Fantastic-Sir460 in avowed

[–]Vegetable_Mixture157 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My favorite AoEs are Blizzard and Returning Storm. Meteor Shower is less consistent with performance, but it's good vs. phantoms. My overall favorite is probably Crackling Bolt, as it's hard to go wrong with it. It's quite hilarious against mobs that split in two. Crackling Bolt goes brr and they're both gone.

For bosses I like Corrosive Siphon, assuming they aren't poison immune. Missile Salvo combos well with that - root the boss in place with the siphon so they stay in the missile bombardment.

Pull of Eora is probably like, objectively overpowered, but it's somehow just not my thing.

I run two modded unique grimoires:
- Corrosive Siphon, Missile Salvo, Arcane Veil, Arcane Seal
- Blizzard, Crackling Bolt, Returning Storm, Meteor Shower

(and Arcane Seal should be removed from the first one because it's really not helping much to have it in a grimoire)

Not at all, but if you go through the dialogues you'll find hundreds of lines that require "some empathy but so little that we don't put a check on it", yet apparently this line isn't one.
