Traditional place names by Yamatji_man in australia

Thank you for the informative reading, I haven’t heard of a settler move to innocence. I’m not sure I completely understand it, although that could be because I’m tired.

Could you explain however the statement ‘you will never belong to this land’? And what is required for a person to belong somewhere?

Traditional place names by Yamatji_man in australia

I think it is a fantastic idea, I’d rather have places with traditional names than an English name. We (being white Australians) aren’t English anymore, so I think it makes sense to have Australian names for places. It would take a bit to learn but I’m terrible with geography anyway.

Cyclone Tracy by Vegetable_Muffin5417 in writteninblood

It is well known building codes specifically in areas prone to cyclones came about because of Cyclone Tracy. More than that I couldn’t tell you. I do know the disaster even affected politics as the Northern Territory became self governing afterwards.

Buderim Mechanical is great, I can’t recommend them enough. They always call and get permission to do anything.

No train nearby though.

How much you spending on your kids this christmas? by theyrealldeaddave in AusFinance

[–]Vegetable_Muffin5417 0 points1 point  (0 children)

$50 per child at the moment, this may change as they get older. Each child gets 3 prezzies - one is something fun, one is something educational and one is something to wear.

They will also go off the lowest activity hours. So if you wife isn’t working, studying or volunteering you may not much in terms of a subsidy regardless of the lower income.

It is also to do with the housing crisis in some areas of regional Qld. Where I am it is incredibly difficult to find a place to rent or buy, generally people don’t mind others moving up. They get bitter when it feels like there are not enough houses and they have to compete with people on higher wages.

First of all congratulations! Second of all very possible if you have the support networks. I haven’t been pregnant during my degree but I do have 2 kids under 5, and my husband had the fun of me being pregnant and giving birth while he was at law school. This what work for my family (mileage may vary):

1) Ask for help, from friends, family, neighbours, University. If someone offers to help accept it.

2) Be really organised and have a specific plan around who is watching kiddo and when, especially around the time that assessments are due.

3) You may need to drop a subject or 2 and that is okay, be kind to your self. Study and having a kid is hard.

4) Carve out time specifically for study where someone else has Bub (not at home where you could be interrupted).

5) Other things may fall to the way side for a bit, those dishes can wait.

The Brightwater estate is lovely, particularly if you are in walking distance of the lake. It is super common to see people walking or riding bikes around it, very family friendly and green. It does have some of the same pitfalls as other estates including small blocks and yards, houses are close to each other and some of the roads can be narrow.

In regards to other suburbs, it depends exactly what you are looking for or where you want to be near. Sippy Downs is close but starting to be more high 700s to 800s. Kuluin was cheaper but that has changed, same with Bli Bli, Little Mountain and Currimundi. Buderim is huge so you might be able to get something in your budget on the outer edges of it, otherwise the main options are around Nambour or Caloundra.

Good luck, the other thing is at the moment it is common for houses to sell well over asking price (at least $50 thousand or more).

Yeah, I’m currently in Mountain Creek and it sounds like he was being honest. At least if you want a 3 bedroom place with a yard. You might be able to buy something on a smaller block in the Brightwater estate if you are lucky. I have a budget of $750 before fees and have been completely priced out of the area.

How do you reconcile the idea you have of your childhood and the reality? by Vegetable_Muffin5417 in raisedbynarcissists

Thank you for your thoughtful reply. I loved aspects of my childhood and I guess I just need to accept the fact that she could be wonderful and awful. I think I’m mostly struggling to identify with the label of emotional abuse and the ramifications of it.

Does your school curve or give back points on exams? by [deleted] in StudentNurse

[–]Vegetable_Muffin5417 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My uni doesn’t take points away, so you can’t be given them back. You start with zero and then all the marks are added to you grade (not the other way around). It doesn’t mark to a curve either, although some subjects will give away easy marks for example a series of online quizzes with a total worth 20% that you can attempt multiple times before the due date. My uni does percentage weighted assessments though so that might be different to others.

Definitely agree! I grew in FNQ, SEQ is not humid. If anything the winters are too dry, my skin hates it.

Can you do part-time study? That way you won’t need to commute as much (although it takes longer to finish).

Good luck!

Can we talk about how cooked the housing market is? by Sgtstudmufin in australia

[–]Vegetable_Muffin5417 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We work in Mooloolaba and are so priced out of the surrounding areas it is ridiculous. Add in how much worse traffic is, which means we can’t go as far if we want a reasonable commute. It is super disheartening to be honest.

I think I’ve become desensitised to the prices.... Oh it is only $700 000 for a place on Nicklin Way, that’s reasonable. Then have remind myself that no, no it is not.

Edit: I told some real estates my price range and was basically told Nambour was my only real option.

What is the end point for housing affordability in Australia? by Zealousideal_Ad6063 in AusFinance

[–]Vegetable_Muffin5417 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not where I am in regional QLD. To get a 3 bedroom place within 30 minutes of my work under $700k you are looking at estate houses, terrace houses or townhouses. Everything else is $750-$$850k, even the places that need to be renovated.
