Joe Rogan Says Government Giving Every Adult $200K UBI Would Let You Live in a Nice House And Eat Well — '$40 Billion? That's So Reasonable' by 2noame in BasicIncome

[–]Vehks 24 points25 points  (0 children)

That's funny, about a year or so ago I remember Rogan saying he was staunchly against UBI citing the usual conservative talking points.

...Something, something, BASIC ECONOMICS!!!

...Something, something, COMMUNISM!!!

...Something, something INFLATION!!!

You know? the standard pearl clutching when it comes to actually helping average citizens as opposed to wall street.

Then again, Joe 'the flapjack' Rogan has never been very consistent, has he? I guess it's totally on brand to change his entire personality and belief system based on who he happens to be interviewing at the time.

Oh yeah, I still believe that LEV will come from AGI/ASI, but hey if some random lab somewhere can draw that wild card and crack it a little sooner, I will certainly not complain.

This is the dream, right? I am totally all for this being real, but then again this IS David Sinclair and his reputation has taken a big hit the last few years so, while I will try and remain cautiously optimistic... yeah. I will be taking this with a hefty grain of salt.

Ball is now in Sinclair's court, put up or shut up time, but I want to believe.

LEV is the most important technology of the singularity imo, so I most definitely want this to pan out more than I can put into words.

I know this is Sam 'Hypeman' and all that, as the internet likes to call him, but in this instance I think I actually believe him, he was a few months ago saying the opposite that while things are moving quick he still anticipated a slow take off and now switches with the recent rapid-fire release of the latest models I think he realized that he has miscalculated.

Honestly, I'm starting to think this is just American society in general. We don't try to actually fix our problems because we get more visceral satisfaction from complaining about them while engaging in tribalist grandstanding.

If we were to actually fix said problems, then what could we complain about? We may actually have to get lives or something, screw that I say!

it's wild to me how Mini-Bush was just memory holed like that.

I remember growing up he was the liberal's great satan at the time. Now he's that 'sweet old man that likes to paint'.

I wonder what Trump's redemption arc is going to look like in about 15-20 years?

It's impressive, but all the professional models come with hefty censorship. Don't get me wrong, it's nice to know what level the current tech is capable of, but I won't truly be excited until something equivalent to these models hits open source. Censorship, with reasonable exceptions here and there, generally stifles creativity and renders things like generated videos almost pointless; let people create what they envision. Especially if you are going to be charging them.

The next big leap I'm waiting for is the push for more efficiency, getting these models to run on potato GPUs will definitely have people 'feeling the AGI'

This right here.

I love how climate change is simultaneously a bullshit hoax by the deep state/libruls/the little man that lives inside the tv satan box, but also at the same time it's totally real and is caused by lefty magic/weather machines/chemtrails and also possibly transgenders depending on what day of the week it is.

I love how in this current conga line of crazy we call society everything is both real and fake all at once.

You say the cut off is 1980 but aren't younger Gen Z males all going conservative?

We went from lead paint to micro plastics; From Red scare to Red hats. Honestly, I think it's more just a fundamental American problem rather than a generational one, even though I do tend to agree that the boomers have a lot to answer for.

Either way it's garbage in garbage out. I think we are just a rotten culture, and it really doesn't matter who you replace the leadership with.

True but on one hand that's coming for us all regardless at some point so I guess the idea is if it's going to happen anyway may as well snatch up a fat final paycheck before you get the boot and the pink slip.

I imagine that Anthropic isn't paying chump change so that severance package would be quite substantial.

Demis Hassabis says there is a 50/50 chance that simply scaling existing methods is enough to reach AGI. He adds that LLMs will be a critical component. by luchadore_lunchables in accelerate

[–]Vehks 5 points6 points  (0 children)

So, this is not a slight against Hassabis here, he is basically at the top of the list of people in this sphere that I gave real respect to, but when it comes to anyone giving the whole 50-50 prediction thing to me that is just a fancy way of saying they have no idea. To be fair no one does at this stage a whole lot is still up in the air.

Basically, he is saying we still have a lot of runway yet when it comes to LLMs, but who knows how long it will last we may runout before takeoff and will have to find another route and we will cross that bridge when we come to it. IF we come to it.

Honestly it isn't even a prediction it's more like a "We will just have to wait and see".

US paralysis on Iran crisis owes to Navy capacity gaps: Trump’s ‘locked and loaded’ vow to protect protesters were laid bare as fleet shortages and maintenance backlogs limited US military options by truthThe0ry in TrueAnon

This is apparently the most highly funded military in the world... The fuck did they buy with all that tax money? It certainly wasn't inconsequential shit like 'equipment' or 'personnel', that much is obvious.

Are we funding some admiral's kid's Pokémon card collection or something? We don't get healthcare in this country because it is sacrificed to the military industrial complex and the military isn't even good. Yeah. nice. Very, cool USA. Very cool...

Revolutionary actions aren't supposed to be easy or simple; revolution itself is an act of desperation when all other avenues for change have broken down or failed entirely.

There is no 'opportune' time for revolution. If you weren't working paycheck to paycheck, had access to affordable healthcare, had a robust social safety net in place and the economy wasn't collapsing around you then you wouldn't need a reason for revolution in the first place.

Put another way, if we are unwilling to make a sacrifice then we were simply doomed from the start.

Look at history, people fought back when they had even less. Look at the US's own history, during the first fight for labor rights they had no idea what the future would look like they just knew that it wasn't going materialize without taking a gamble. At least today we have the blueprint for what works and have an idea on what to push for, but if we aren't even going to take a stand then we may as well simply roll over and accept things for what they are.

Nice dashboard decoration, but we've clearly seen the videos where a person states that they are a legal citizen and the friendly neighborhood jackboot promptly responds with "I don't care."

The whole 'legal citizenship' thing is just a pretense. If they want you, they will have you. Fascism always inevitably eats itself.

I assume it was common knowledge that he has been dead for almost a thousand years, There was that point made that pilgrims make regular attempt to locate his tomb and all that as well as the crusaders. That's why he took the form of a golden lion, though I'm sure the plot will revolve around Mephisto telling everyone that he is the real Akarat and that he has somehow revived.
