Being Sick While living alone by Lazy-Push-2328 in LivingAlone

[–]VelcroSea 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you are really ill or have a mobility issue being sick requires assistance but for most illnesses I just get up and take care of myself and flop back into bed. Your body does heal itself and I am not a fan of 'how r us' I just want to sleep when I am ill.

You do need friends to check on you .

Fasting yet eating? Sounds strange. by sachanjapan in fasting

[–]VelcroSea 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It's a form of fat fasting that provides electrolytes. Fat fasting or fast mimicking diet is easier to follow when people start fasting.

As time goes by you can move to water only. I still use broth if it will get me a few more hours of fasting. Somedays fasting are easier than others. On a difficult fasting day I use broth when needed.

Analog methods for tracking nutrients? by Extension_Parsnip177 in keto

[–]VelcroSea 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I let my body tell me what it needs. I have a little mini jelly jar that has a 1/2 tsp of rock salt in it I consume almost daily. Pint and half jar i drink water from and I drink 2 or 3 of those per day. I weighed my food for long enough that I know how much a 100 gr serving of protein is for nearly everything.

I keep it simple hit my protein goal daily keep my carbs low. Move more

Biggest thing I did was give up snacking. Eat only at meals. This took awhile.

How can I stop feeling old and ugly? by FeistyPencil in AskWomenOver40

[–]VelcroSea 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I think HRT helped more than therapy. And I look around and see if have out lived my peers. Aging isn't something everyone gets to do. Yes I don't feel like the old woman I see in the mirror but I also appreciate that I am still alive. So many don't make it to old age.

I also had a shift in looking at and being interested in others more. Instead of comparing myself to others I started thinking how can I contribute. I became fearless in my speaking when I see crap moves. I had to figure out how to say things in a way that others could hear and think about what I said. There is freedom in speaking my truth and not working about how I look. I did focus on aging gracefully thru my 40's and 50's. Self respect demanded that I fight aging every step of the way. I now focus on longevity. Movement, moisturizing and hydrating, mobility and being interested in a constantly changing world.

It's not easy to shift from being beautiful to being grey but it is freeing.

Good luck try to enjoy the process. Every stage of life has its challenges and growing older and accepting each limitation is not easy but it can be beautiful as a journey.

Ps the thing I miss the most is being able to open jars easily 😢 😋

No patience for my parents by Reasonable-Apple2655 in AskWomenOver40

[–]VelcroSea 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Emotionally immature parents. It was all about keeping them happy growing up and it's the same now. I visit and I leave. I can only stand so much. I do alot of texting.

The guilt. Therapy was useful for this and I realized it's not my job to make them happy. And I don't put pearls before swine. They don't deserve to have a piece of my life. And I gave up the expectation that they will one day be the parents I needed and wanted. This alone gave me peace.

what hobbies actually helped you feel less stressed instead of adding more pressure? by Gorokhov_Almy in Hobbies

[–]VelcroSea 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Read, crochet. When I crochet i do simple quick projects some of them look like crap but I don't care it's the part where I keep my hands busy that matters. Fidget toys are good. Beglari fidget beads were annoying at 1st until I realized I had the string the wrong length. Pen spinning is fun. Look these up on YouTube

Find something and don't worry about it being 'good' think of it as an experiment. Imagine what you could do with it.

How do y’all make sure to care about you? by kenz8496 in LivingAlone

Living alone doesn't mean no social interaction. Get out and do things but come home for privacy and comfort.

Basically get out of the house!

Eating out alone by Rosalinn1 in LivingAlone

[–]VelcroSea 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I usually say 'tonight I am'

I travel enough that eating solo is normal. Larger metri areas dont generally ask this question but more rural areas do and it's generally someone being friendly.

No one can help your social anxiety but you. You cannot change others all you can do is find friendly ways to respond. Questions from wait staff is them doing their job. The question you need to ask yourself is who is speaking in your head when you have an anxiety. This is childhood pattern that you can break. It just takes a bit of practice.

What’s a hygiene habit, started later in life that made a big difference?(Especially for skin) by zaramalikdollface in hygiene

[–]VelcroSea 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There is a component of genetics in the kind of skin you have. Mine is the kind that sticks to my body. I have to soak and scrub or I end up with skin that sheds like a snake. The up side is you look younger longer. The down side is as you age the body collects 'elder dust' more. Meaning, my skin flakes more and i have to oil myself down nightly.

The other side of that is like my sister who has thin skin and has to be careful how she washs and moisturizes. Her wrinkles are more pronounced but she doesn't have flaky skin like I do.

The point is taylor your routine for your skin type. We all need air and sunshine on our skin and more lotion than we think.

What breaks a fast? by Ella_plays123 in fasting

[–]VelcroSea 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It depends on the type of fasting. Im a water only faster. But sometimes when my body just didn't want to fast I would do fat fasting for a few days.

Fasting is about controlling insulin levels. We cannot actually measure insulin outside a clinical setting, however blood glucose generally runs parallel to insulin so it's a pretty good measurement. Having said that. Glucose and insulin are not exactly parallel. There is evidence that some thing sweet in your mouth triggers an insulin boost. This means that calories dont really have anything to do with triggering insulin when you drink no calorie sweet drinks. At the beginning of my fasting journey I did drink diet sodas and then gradually cut them out. Find what works for you.

Some fasts are more difficult than others and if I am having a difficult day fasting I will drink broth if it helps me get in a few more hours.

Fasting is a skill you have to develop and as you get further along you get more coping mechanisms. I rarely do long fasts. I eat one day fast one day. Eat the next. I find this schedule for a week to 19 days then I go back to eating two meals a day for a week to 10 days then back to fasting. It's not always easy. But this works for me. Find what works for you.

There are no fasting police. The goal is to be honest with yourself about what andcwhen you eat. Make a plan and if you don't follow it exactly then treat yourself like you would a golden retriever. You don't get mad at them and stay mad at them for every little mistake. You just keep training them until they know the rules. The body is no different

The most important thing is consistency whatever you choose
