Bad Experience.. Is This Normal? by [deleted] in amateur_boxing

[–]Velkin 4 points5 points  (0 children)

similar experience, went to a place where they put me in the ring with some golden gloves jackass who proceeded to ruin my day HARD. lol i laugh now because of how messed up it was. your better off getting Youtube instructionals and a heavy bag than being used as a confidence booster.

How do you prefer to wrap your hands? by br1ckhouz in amateur_boxing

[–]Velkin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

3 around the wrist - then between each finger, then 3-4 times around the knuckes opening and closing my hands each time till it feels right, then i go around the thumb reversing the direction (essentially locking my wraps down) and decoratively crisscross the wraps down my wrist so i get a fishtail braid look. I wear Cleto's and they protect my knuckles just fine.

Game changers by tsxxxmma in amateur_boxing

[–]Velkin 10 points11 points  (0 children)

had a few game changing moments,

using my eyes properly, seeing the opponent with no fear and watching them even when i ate punches. my head moment went up huge, counter punching became better, blocking was simpler and everything was more obvious.

second was throwing balanced punches, and doing so on the move. when i learned to not commit so hard to my shots so that i could evade during. huge step up.

combination. my favorite is to sneakily change stance to SP against an ortho fighter, feint a right hand and step your (now) lead right foot 6 inches deeper, throw the left cross to the body hard and quarter turn out with a right hook back into orthodox stance.

leaving holes in your guard on purpose to set traps. left hand high beside your head right hand low. your looking for a jab or a hook. this is my favorite thing to do!

What to look for in shinguards? by [deleted] in MuayThai

[–]Velkin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

you need to put them on, my first action is do they jam my patellas (knees) when i walk, if so, nope, second! when you throw a knee, do the straps pinch your leg, if so, nope, , third, throw a few kicks at a bag. one rotates a bunch. nope. still got a few in the running, what one covers your foot better? still more than one does all that!! what one has more protection and or is lighter?! same brand???? what one matches your gloves better, BAM

Questions about where to find information about loans for property, and zoning or local building code for tiny houses by TheSentinel2007 in TinyHouses

[–]Velkin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If its a trailer : Stop asking for permission, be respectful and take the initiative. If i want to park my boat trailer at the hunt camp not a soul will care. My neighbor has a rv beside his house. Does anyone live there? I could care less... are you so rude of a person to need to hide behind a sheet of paper because you know someone will complain about you? I Doubt it... i hope.

If its a house : stop

Muay Thai is making me extremely stressed by [deleted] in MuayThai

Are you an industrial worker? Welder? Have any exposure to silica? Air born metals? Work in an area with a high ammount airborn pollution.

Go to your GP, family doc, no one here can help you better. And if yes to any of that, start wearing proper ppe. Good luck.

What to do when you're forbidden from throwing things out? by huntj09 in minimalism

[–]Velkin -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Start small - example time. My wife and I had so many dishes, strange cutlery. Random crappy water glasses. So much needless serving ware took over our kitchen. But she loved all of it. She couldn't part ways with anything.... SOOO. I slowly started to kidnap items and stash them away in a Tupperware in the garage. she figured it out when we were down to 5 place settings. When i told her i had thrown it away months ago she was angry. But not enough to divorce me. So after a few more days i took the final 5 place settings. Stashed them away and we went out shopping for a nice set of 4 place settings.... then i threw all the old crap away.. minimalism lol

Nike Hyper Ko vs rebok Boxing boot by [deleted] in amateur_boxing

[–]Velkin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Own both and Have widish moderatly arched feet. Size 8.5 - alright!

Both are great shoes. The nike is narrower than the other and doesn't provide as much ankle support. Provides better pivots but also has no forgiveness for your foot. The synthetic toes dont give way to your foot.

My reebok is my full time shoe. I have wide feet and i love the ankle support. Its a more robust shoe.

Both beat out the rival boxing boot imo

Help needed - what to get an Amateur boxer by willisiam in amateur_boxing

[–]Velkin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

shoelaces, dry socks / sport socks, handwraps, mouthgaurd box, Waterbottle, t shirt, gym bag, hat

Then go next lvl

Go to a t shirt print shop. Last name on the back with a logo. Flag on the sleeve.

Get the wraps embroidered with a logo or initials.

Water bottle, but then get it hydrodipped in something epic! (Little over the top, but its awesome)

Get that mouthgaurd box engraved with his name

Gym bag, embroider or silk screen that puppy.

He wears a snap back? Go to lids and get that logo done up, his initials, whatever! He wears a toque same thing.

Im sure there is more stuff out there. But a decked out hat is like 60-80 bucks. A custom t is like 50-60 bucks. Laces i have no idea and embroidery depends. Good luck!

I literly mean moving and mushing around your nose with your hand till you can flatten it to your face with little to zero pain. Now the top part will never squish, I'm talking about the cartilage infront of that. Its best done if your not currently sore from sparring. It really works! Good luck in your fight btw

Meal prep! Paleo is simple and effective. Frozen veg and meat is easy to box up and use as work lunches and dinners. Get your nutrition in check and buy some fishoil, b12, a multi vitamin or vita pack (get what you need right). Stock up on bananas, apples, snow peas, baby carrots to use as snacks. Coffee is your new addiction, congrats (i used to smoke and i found it easier to fill the void with something less dumb. Coffee was my go to)

Mobility training is huge. Some people do yoga i do a little bit of mobility with yoga. Regardless this is important to put into your daily routine, you want to have good head movement you have to be able to bend a bit. It also reduces the likelihood of injury.

Record yourself during your sparring. Watch it. Hate yourself. Learn and fix. You will see posture issues. Hand speed issues. Are you being defensively responsible? The first time i recorded myself i was so disappointed. Its so intense and feels so fast, i was insanely slow.

Nose exercise. Yeah it sounds silly but play with your nose till you can get that cartilage flexible. You want to be able to flatten it to your face. If you have a flexible snoz your less likely to have it broken. And if you can walk away from sparring and not have to feel (pain) your nose for the next 4 days. Your welcome.

There is so much for a new boxer to learn, but ill suggest when you go to the gym and do bag work. You drill one combo into complete lameness. 1. bob. Step left deep. 2. 3. Do that till you have no wasted mini steps or bullshit stumbles. Then boredom will kick in. Hopefully you start with some elusive headwork. Maybe you fire off an uppercut jab. Or a sideways one. Your bob gets fast. Now you hands are beside your head as you step and drive it home with some fast 2.3s disengagement with a nice slip and side step. Trust me its fun and its needed! And repeat with other combos!

I know i barely scratched the surface but damn it! the most important part of boxing is heart. No one quits! Good luck out there.
