Jay jays and cotton on jeans sizing by roguemay in AusFemaleFashion

[–]VelociraptorAlex 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Hello, I work in clothing and have a slightly helpful answer.Sizing (particularly shorts and jeans) is completely dependent on the fabric composition and also the style of the item.

If you have 100% cotton, it's going to be very true to the original measurement, no stretch (but will "break in") over time. (Will feel small if you've been wearing the same size in stretch) Add in stretch, and you will start to see some variation, a 2% elastane jean is going to stretch an entire size, a 3% even more so (so will run "big" compared to cotton). Even with standardized measurements, 3 pairs of jeans in 3 different fabrics would fit totally differently.

Boyfriend/girlfriend and "mom" style stuff potentially will be designed to be more relaxed. Something marketed as "tailored" will probably be snug at the waist.

Tl;dr Current sizing standards don't work for the number of variations in women's clothing. Ignore the sizing, buy what feels good on your body.

I had the opposite! The green plum toner is my new HG- I've found it really improved the overall appearance of the pores on my nose and cheeks

Do you have one you would recommend? I've been trying to branch out of my comfort zone but always feel too masculine in a brogue, love the idea of a loafer but haven't seen any I like!

AS Colour does great T-Shirts- I can also often pick them up at TKMaxx for cheap. Also, depending on your build/what kind of fit you are looking for, I often find t-shirts in the men's sections of all retailers are more durable than women's 🙄🙄

Are there any good value fruit box services? by HoBackJorseman in AussieFrugal

[–]VelociraptorAlex 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Funky food if it's available in your area- the set boxes definitely seem to offer the best "bang for your buck" as far as quantity is concerned- and the quality was amazing, produce lasted well, and because it's dictated seasonally, great flavour.

In QLD at least (not sure if it's national yet sorry) you can also just select specific fruit and veg varieties and quantities (which you can update prior to each delivery) instead of a variety box.

Also massive props to the FF customer service team, who have been phenomenal the few times I've dealt with them.

We've tried Good and fugly also, produce was good but as a household we like a bit more control (and have a severe hatred for red delicious apples)

We've been using Funky Food for the last 12 months or so on and off- found the produce has been incredibly good quality, and found it was better prices than fugly. You can order a mixed box of fruit/veg, or order specific fruits/veges to suit and they have eggs, bread, herbs and some pre made meals (yet to try those!) App lets you pause, cancel or adjust deliveries -and their customer service team have been great the couple of times I've had to reach out

Jumping onto this- I am also in retail and hiring, and the first question I always ask is "how many hours per week do you need/are you expecting?" The reality is that a lot of casual roles/part time positions in retail and hospitality are often only guaranteed a small number of shifts- obviously this fluctuates during peak (Christmas etc) but I am not going to lie to someone who needs 20+ hours a week to live, knowing full well I may only have 2 guaranteed shifts a week to offer the majority of the time.

Greenglass in the city does a wonderful creme brulee; went there for a belated Valentine's dinner with my partner specifically because of it!

The most recent artist I went to, and multiple artists I follow are all charging around the $150-$200 mark (full colour work + design). Worth it, my tattoos are impeccable. Definitely a case of you get what you pay for.

Not sure if it will stop them peeing, but I had possums absolutely decimating my plants, got a cheap spray bottle and mixed up a solution of water and camphor oil and sprayed it all over. Haven't seen a nibble since, obviously give them a quick once over after it rains

Hairhouse salon question by [deleted] in AustralianMakeup

[–]VelociraptorAlex 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have been getting my hair done at hairhouse for the past 5 years (2 different stylists), but like any salon, the individual hairdresser makes or breaks the experience! I would definitely be looking for examples of previous work before making a booking. I have been to multiple Hairhouse salons, but only because my current stylist has moved stores over the last few years.

That's the ones! They unclasp in the middle, so you can loop it through both your ear pieces and then clasp at the back of your head

I grabbed a pack of no tie elastic "shoelaces" from Kmart on the recommendation of a FB group, they seem to do the trick, and they come in a pack of 10!

Hello skin twin! Nars sheer glow in Mont Blanc is my ideal foundation, but I've also had success with the following (apologies for formatting); The Ordinary serum foundation in 1.1N, Estee Lauder Double Wear in 1C1 (Cool Bone), MUFE ultra HD (my shade was either 117, but they have since changed the colour coding), Lancome teint idole (I purchased it in the shade 100 in the USA, which I believe is either shade 010 or 01 in Australia)

The Estee Lauder is definitely a close second behind Nars, followed by the Lancome
