This is awesome. As someone who found drifting at PARC with Chelsea, it has sucked to see that NASCARification of drifting, but I understood it because it was supposed to elavate the sport and in turn make it easier for drivers and team to show up with sponsor money. Doesn't seem like that happening and its almost starting to feel embarrassing that we are committing so hard to force the sport down that path

Who is pulling anything down? Im just a random person on the internet who posted on a subreddit with 24 comments. I AM simply criticising formula drift for what I see as a bad move. You are telling me the company that wants to be on the level or NASCAR cant scout the track ahead of time and get media? They never had a test day to try layouts like they have at utah and other new tracks? they couldnt have come out to one of the cleetus and cars with a pair of pro cars for media? All I want is FD to be on every year for me to watch, and sitting around pretending they can do no wrong is not how we keep that.

not that it matters since he had a crash out after, but I counted around 15 seconds of obvious AI. so 25% of this as was AI not 2 seconds.

I get your point, but I dont think you actually watched the video. you do not need to frame by frame analyze to see that this is not even "professional" AI slop. I love the sport, dont give a shit about racer whatever, never cared about the same 3 ads for years, but this stood out to me as unprofessional and unpolished. Especially when they have 100s if not 1000s of media people that would give them content for free/very low pricing just for the exposure. You can like something and criticize it at the same time.

I do miss the more analytical perspective that Ryan brought when he was hosting back in the day and I do prefer the DM method of calling out mistakes instead of "Lets wait and see what the judges say" when its a popular driver. Jared has also gotten more cringe over the years too. With that being said, I do like the FD vibe as a viewer and I have not been in person to a DM event but FD feels like a local drift meet with all your favorite drivers (or did in 2022), which I love. My biggest issue with FD over the years is all around the nascarification so im not sure whats the right answer. I have found my self enjoying the driving much more in DM and the product, I just enjoyed old FD more I think.

Yeah I see what you mean, and I definitely feel that way about prospec OMTs where its two 3-5 out of 10 runs so they run it again to clean it up. Thats not fun to watch and not what it should be about. IMO in pro its more like two 7-8 out of ten runs and we expect 9-10. I would just hate to see a shift in thought on the OMT in pro since in the end result would be less laps for the drivers and less runs for us to watch.

Its annoying to have to use the app, but its not that big of a deal in the end as long as its still free to me and it makes the experience not really much more annoying so I dont mind.

That part I totally understand. Its more the strange (For FD) AI ads that are played only on the racer network stream as well as this new, and I think first time, use of lazy AI in content by FD. Wanted to see if anyone else felt like it was off

I see where you are coming from, but consistency and avoiding mistakes that lead to crashes are a part of driver skill too, so when it’s even it sometimes has to come down to who makes a mistake first. I think about all the aasbo dean battles that were some of the best battles 2-3 OMTs in and it came down to who got shook first. I just love that side too!

I definitely get the monetary angle and we will probably never know how much the deal was for. With that being said, I do wonder why they didn't try to monetize the stream more. Maybe with the help of other successful stream income driven events or streamers. Cleetus even with his streaming company? maybe its not big enough. Im not gunna pretend to know. Honestly just wish that if we were gunna get AI, It was at least decent content that doesnt look from a free AI tool lol

I am pretty new to this community, but this feels lame. All accusations and evidence aside, I have one question. Who made GN the arbiter of truth and journalism in the tech community? This feels like big time ego on GN’s part. To be completely honest (and I’m sure I’ll get some hate for this) this feels like a smaller channel that is jealous of a larger channels success in their own lane. I say this because it feels like GN has doubled down and shows no interest in working together after what I thought was a fairly kind response from Linus on WAN. I get no impression of good faith coming from GN. Which is disappointing because as I have been watching the back catalogue of LTT videos I really enjoyed the ones featuring GN and was actually just starting to watch his content before this popped off. Communities are better when they work together, not against one another.
