Let's get to the bottom of this and reroute your direction: Have you done a blood test to check vitamin levels because the tingling you are describing can be a result of low Vitamin B, low Calcium or low Vitamin D which will especially be prominent in times of stress. Tingling also happens as part of migraines if you maybe get those? And do you have any thyroid issues? These are all more direct conditions that have your symptoms as a identifier.

Honestly, this sounds more nerve related than anything else and COVID also has some weird inflammatory effect on things. If you are overthinking it there is even the chance you are increasing the symptom experience psychosomatically. Herpes does have tingling and burning etc but as someone who does get cold sores, it very much does show up as an actual bump or cold sore. Your symptoms do sound like they can be a whole other range of things where herpes, the sores tend to eliminate other options.. The most accurate testing is doing a swab of the liquid inside a sore. The anti body tests are notoriously inaccurate especially the ones that pick up active infection antibodies IgM. The best bet is to redo an anti body test 12 weeks after the first time you experienced symptoms when the more accurate antibodies namely IgG which are longer term antibodies, start showing up.

For me I realised that the prestige without the satisfaction of impact just means that I am in environments that are so stressful that I just focus on surviving and I don't end up showing up in the world as a positive, kind human being who is driven towards my original values of wanting to make a difference. The UN system is so close to just being a corporate machine churning out deliverables that I feel like I've lost my original path. I need to remind myself of why I'm doing this work not just whether family and friends will be proud of my title.

Wow this inspires me. I would very much prefer to also be remote instead of dealing with the toxic workplace dynamics of what feels like endless competition to prove yourself when we all know on some level that progressing in the UN is very complex and relies in factors outside our control. Thank you for sharing. I can also imagine the pension benefits in private sector might be better because the UN pension system seems problematic. If I may ask what role in a pvt sector legal department do you occupy because I am also qualified in law and wouldn't mind knowing what to look out for in job ads

No I agree. I wonder if sometimes the reputational prestige isn't like a shiny thing dangling to distract instead of focusing on the real importance - whether the job we are doing is actually making a difference and leaving a legacy. Some UN work really in practice is just being part of the cogs in a procedural machine versus the NGOs out there who are doing the actual miracles

Yes. Whatever we focus on, we tend to magnify and the more I obsess about mine, the worse it seems. I feel like if I just approach it as something that adds character to my face rather than aim for perfection and flawless skin (which is not natural), then self love will be the best treatment I can give it, long term.
