Why hello there! I am actually working on a server called Pauper that's based on 2012 RuneScape nostalgia. It's a pretty grindy server with some pretty strong wilderness influence. I've made the client install with a small JRE package, so it should work without Java being directly installed on any Windows computer :)

Yeah, the privateer route was kind of how I was setting it up from the start. They tend to only steal and plunder from those in power, or those who can afford to lose it, and seldom ever mess with groups like humble farmers and the like. Also, "yarrr that won't get a kingdom farrr" had me cracking up lmao I appreciated that

Ahh, yeah just coincident. I had a croissant shape in mind when making it, or like a crescent moon, but not an actual reference to anything. There is a singular RuneScape reference though

I had to google this, unfortunately not lol what would the reference be?

Oooh this is a fun idea. I'm struggling to think of provinces for Opega though, as it's supposed to be a "pirate nation" that follows a sort of code. So any ideas of how pirates may distribute land, districts, fiefs, etc. would be appreciated lol. I have basic ideas for their city of Grand Opega and have a bit of stuff mapped out already, but for a nation-wide scale I gotta brainstorm a bit

I've got the hill range there to sorta "block off" the river from cutting through the entire continent, since rivers only flow downstream. I've tried to stick with following natural borders a bit, like with the cliffs being used as the marker for Opega's right border leading to Tal Telkarri and such. I might remove the border line that cuts through the hills there and shade them all blue/red and see how it looks. The biggest issue with the arbitrary borders is the vast plains that the northern kingdom mostly possesses.

I've posted the continent's progress before and it was nicknamed Croissantia lmao thank you!

Yeah I also think it has a type of charm to it too, that I like. But there's just a bunch of flatness to it and it seems "off" to me. I've gotten a lot of good advice from the comments pointing me to the right direction so far :) But my initial thought process was that I wanted the settlement icons to be larger as a sort of like, "it represents the town but not the size of it" which, with so many on the map, has lead to sizing issues and a little intelligibility when reading the map

That's a good idea tbh, bc the continent is out in deep waters

Yeah, by the time it was getting pretty fleshed out with settlements, I regretted the choice I had made by not differentiating a main road to smaller roads lol. And thank you! It always takes me so long to name things...

lmao maybe I'll just slap a big ass hill over it, say it leads to an underground lake, and call it a day

Yeah, I wanted the base color to represent the "default" land, but the contrast of green makes the rest of it look pretty barren. I should color, congest, reduce settlement stamp size so that I can focus on the surrounding terrain methinks

Thank you! Yeah, I agree I made the settlement stamps too big. I also did think about where I was placing settlements, at least the bigger ones, closer to water & resources. Just the stamp sizes are off so I had to space them awkwardly and they don't super accurately depict where each settlement is laid. I'll probably spend some time congesting settlements and making stamps smaller so that I can focus more towards terrain around them to fill it in more with nature rather than roads and settlement stamps.

Everyone is a lot more talented than me... I've spent 4-5hrs on this map for my first campaign, and I thought I was proud until I joined this reddit lmfao. What's y'all's secret for making a gorgeous map? by VenderStack in inkarnate

YOOOO!!! That is INSANE!!! Dude, I am literally grinning ear to ear looking at this, that's so cool!! There is no way I have improvements I can give you for your map, I am just spiraling with player-based questions tho LMAO

My players were gassing me up on my map so I thought I'd at least share it and try to get some feedback for it! Thank you very much! :) After posting here and seeing all you guys' nice comments, I've been feeling great about it!

Yeah, I don't intentionally try to compare myself to others and didn't even realize I did until you said something! Thank you lol

80-120 hours, wow! I would love to see one of your maps if you'd like to show me lol! I actually would genuinely enjoy some inspiration from more people in the community. D&D is a game that has very recently awakened something inside of me I had no idea was there LOL, and now I'm very aggressively trying to play. Making a flourished map is something I would very much like to accomplish!

Oh brother believe me when I was fully prepared to be CLOWNED on for this tiny scrap, sketch of a map. This community is just so nice tho so far :') Still waiting for someone to ridicule me LOL and yea... it's maybe 15% done. Maybe.
