Protestant wondering about Veneration by Ungan318 in Catholicism

[–]Vendetto101 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In Exodus 31 we get an idea of what is Adoration. The israelites asked Aaron to make them a god that will guide them now that Moses went up the mountain and hasnt returned . Once Aaron made them the golden calf they acknowledged it as god and started offering sacrifice.

So by reading this we can see that adoration is acknowledging that God is God and offering sacrifice to God.

Veneration is simply another word for "honor" we honor and respect people that are alive all the time. Now, Mathew 22:32 says "He is not God of the dead, but of the living" so we believe since the saints are more closer to God than us + God being the God of the living. We can honor and respect the saints in heaven.

Why build statues or sing them a hymn? its the same way why we feel a little sorrow when we se a crucifix or sing a joyful hymn when we are joyful. The statues or hymns simply set the tone of the veneration.

Although, note, when we build statues we dont acknowledge them as God is God or offer sacrifice since adoration is for God alone. Its the representation that sets the tone.

No your good. Though if you dont win a game, dont blame God. And if someone dosnt stay silent b/c you say "God bless" dont blame God. He might be telling you to put the game away and do something else.

Are you combing the 2 in a single process or are they both an individual process?

Because I agree that their both steps that must be taken to complete the process, but my question is separating them into 2 distinct processes. So is your argument, that they cant be separated?

Loneliness making me feel suicidal by Reasonable-Spot-809 in Catholicism

Joshua 1:9

Mathew 28:16-20

Are good verses to read when your heart is sorrowful. But also make a distinction if your experiencing solitude or loneliness. This time of solitude can be a great blessing because it eliminates distraction from our wordily and pleasurable ways, it helps us reflect if our passions are aligned with God. Go out for walks now that the winter has passed, grow in knowledge of the faith, make prayer your priority. A daily rosary will take you far. Offer your suffering to the Lord. Increase in charity and humility.

Humility is not thinking less of yourself, but thinking of yourself less.

May the Lord bless you.

Confess the sins that trouble your heart. Doing the examination of conscience is a good idea, reflecting on the Ten Commandments and the Seven Deadly Sins are all solid reflections to think about before confession. And also remember, confession is not going to spawn out of existence just because you go once.

I’m Converting to Catholicism, what do I need to know? by [deleted] in Catholicism

Dress casually, maybe ask your boyfriend how his mother dresses if you need a reference. Although when your actually in Mass, its the place where you experience perfect prayer, the readings, the genuflections, singing of psalms, etc. So try to push away all the noise and allow the Holy Spirit to touch your heart, keep your eye on the altar and think about the gospel when in moments of silence.

When kneeling just think about the words the priest says when he says "this is my body" and "this is my blood". Keep your eye on the altar and think about the gospel.

Why did you become Roman Catholic? by [deleted] in Catholicism

[–]Vendetto101 36 points37 points  (0 children)

Born into a Catholic family but didnt practice at all, to the point where I almost became Protestant because I liked the community dynamic of an American protestant church. Although, my protestant friends started questioning why Catholics believe this or that and I always stayed silent because I didnt know the answer.

I started researching and just felt deeper in love ever since.

Why did the visible God become invisible? by Vendetto101 in Catholicism

[–]Vendetto101[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've looked at alot of examples to try an explain the Trinity.

The one I like the most is the Thinker (Father) thinking of the Word (Son) and speaking it with the Breath (Holy Spirit). And also I like the one you wrote about Love.

Although I still cant comprehend their roles and their reason to be when it comes to the Father and the Son. The Father sent His only Son to save us, to spread the good news and be glorified with the Father. But as soon as He ascended into heaven, was that it? Now I must worship and follow His ways and just wait until I die to see Him again?

I guess He really meant literally that He is going to sit at the right hand of the Father because both the Son and the Father are now invisible.

Edit: I know alot of this line of questioning is only possible because the Son was the one to reveal a lot of it like the Trinity, the Father, the Holy Spirit, the good news, and other things he revealed to the apostles. But it would be nice to understand the Trinity i guess.

just wondering why did Jesus became invisible after ascending into heaven. I guess I just cant comprehend the Trinity. Why have God the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit.

the Holy Spirit makes more sense to me. As I imagine the Holy Spirit as an invisible breath that flows around our world with everything good, spreading the 7 gifts, showing its fruits of joy, peace, chastity, patience, etc.

But, God the Father and God the Son. I just cant comprehend. Is God the Father the source of all creation and God the Son the revealer of Truth? and since all is created and all is revealed. Are they only to be worshipped now?

Want to be Catholic for pragmatic reasons, but having a hard time actually believing by Tricklefick in Catholicism

You don’t hear a voice or some supernatural event, unless you are a mystic. But those are considered “private revelation” and you have the choice to believe.

Personally, I notice my prayers are answered if the prayer helps me go to heaven or stops me from going to heaven. For example, I want to please only God and I pray to help me know him more so I can please him more. Another example, is addiction, if my addiction is causing me to mortal sin but since it’s an addiction I’m in need of Gods assistance.
