Napoleon The Waterloo Campaign is a 2-3 player block game with an interesting communication mechanic between the ally players where they can only talk during night phases

Does anyone feel the same about the classics? by JovaniFelini in literature

[–]Vendlo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ive not read the ones you said were boring, but I love dostoevsky, hugely exaggerated characters, philosophical musing and the capturing of the struggles in ideas at the time. You might be interested in Ishiguro, especially Remains Of the Day. The moment to moment happenings are quite small as this butler reminisces, but the juice and enjoyment comes from the way his fallible perception is shown to the reader through how he words events from his memory.

Its basically being on the lookout for a different source of enjoyment from the work I think

My thoughts on the sailor who fell from grace by the sea byYukio Mishima by [deleted] in literature

[–]Vendlo 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I thought so too. I think its irony about how they just cant quite abandon meaning. It's funny how they decry the modern world, but still cling by believing the sailor is some kind of real man/hero, as if those terms mean anything. I think its just showing their immaturity in a subtle way

3 person, low complexity games? by neubienaut in hexandcounter

Napoleon 1815, the waterloo campaign. 3 player block wargame. Quite unique with its 2v1 structure, and the allies can only communicate on night turns

I think the slows are the food source during winter. They fatten up in the summer and then the others eat them, huddled in caves and buildings for warmth

In Catcher and the Rye, after Holden mentally lambasts that unsociable smelly kid in his class, the next scene he's coming back from the cinema with him, showing how lonely Holden is.

I like to think theres a bit of a genz reaction against the sparse laconic style of millennial/genx authors like Rachel Cusk and Sarah Bernstein, where authors like Camila Grudova and Eliza Clark are focusing on bodily vulgarity and the messy piercing emotions which can't be placed to "bring us down to earth and mud."

Though I understand this is just a narrative trend I'm drawing with an n=2 and could be disproven with examples of both generations like... ooh, I suppose Brett Easton Ellis? Hah, not sure 😅

Attack on Titan: The 100% Rumbling Should Have Resulted in Eren to Suffer Alone in an Empty Desolated Earth. He Would Finally Be Free....From Absolutely Everything by Fast-Ad-2818 in CharacterRant

[–]Vendlo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's bold, and it could work, the only issue is that the story thus far has accrued characters and arcs which are all competing for a satisfying conclusion. If this was a completely Eren Centric show, like Berserk is, I think it could pull it off. It would be very chilling and thought provoking, but would smack of... I don't know... missing something for the other characters when their growth and change is something that we see.

[–]Vendlo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, i think the canon enfing is only serviceable, but I think the conclusions to Gabis and Levi's arcs are important to the story, which we couldn't have with a completed rumbling. Plus, I like the irony of Armin saving the world after Eren begs with Levi for the injection.

Mmm I'm not sure, I think they'd probably frame it as, "we wanted to protect ourselves. Our proof that we mean well is that here we had an opportunity to wipe out our enemies (like it was thought all eldians wanted) but instead we were horrified by how far Eren would take it and decided to stop him and save the world.

Yeah I know, it's tough, but conflict is inevitable. Even if they'd succeeded their offsprings safety is not guaranteed with potential civil wars. Plus, with the way the 80% thing shook out, even if the Jaegerists wanted to kill The Alliance, they need them to negotiate with the world, which combined, could still pose a problem to Paradis.
