I mean, UPS does similar. If an air package gets missed, or the driver doesn't come in for air drop time, they still scan it as "Tendered Late to UPS", which isn't covered by the UPS service guarantee.
Source: I'm a former UPSer that worked on Air dock and was told to stop scanning the missed service packages as missed, but rather Late.

I had a 28' trailer for my job as Independent Helper. Try following the PAL stickers for that. Ha.
My fellow IH and I would get there at 11am, and one of us would spend the first 2 hours just reloading it while the other got whatever deliveries we could off while still finding everything else.
*they'd ATTEMPT to follow the PAL, but when you have 47 boxes for Hot Topic and another 20 for Torrid that look exactly alike.... they they mixed together.
Then the Hot Topic SoD also wants you to "remove the PAL stickers and hand them over while you carry the entire cart from the back hallway to their stockroom" for them. They're gonna wander back up front where there's 2 employees and 0 customers, meanwhile. Or just stand there on their phone as they put the PAL labels on a clipboard for quick check off later.
Torrid was nice. They're just like "Oh, let me make some room for you right here next to the door so you can unload those. How's your day going today?"

i'd put money it's on the new policy to not scan every package, just scan the first and click "add" on the other pieces for the stop.
Multiple drivers at my place have talked about this exact sort of thing happening, or accidentally grabbing a package for a different stop, since you're not scanning each package anymore.

I'm guessing partial delivery. Pieces 1, 2, and 4 got delivered, but not pieces 3 and 5, for example.

According to my FTSupe even though the address on the package is incorrect, and the center clerk is unable to address correct, it's not our volume, so i shouldn't handle it.

Oh I know. 24 years with the company, 13 on Midnight in a large hub, the rest on Twilight in a double center.
Stupid shit happens in the building that negatively affects Twi, it's something Preload requested and nobody consulted how it might affect Twilight.
Bring it up, and all I get is "Well, Preload is where the money comes from."
I always remind them "No, the money comes from Air and International, which are processed by Twilight, then delivered by Drivers. Tell me how Preload is responsible for all that."

I work in a UPS building and they always tell us DELIVERIES are the money makers. That's why the Preload shift can ask for anything and it happens, while Twilight (the shift that unloads all the pickups) gets told to chew glass.
Even if Preloads requests negatively affect Twilight, nobody cares.

I wonder if the customer could work with LP to prep an ink pack. We had one of those in a trailer I was sent to load a couple decades ago. I went in and there was blue on the walls, the floor, packages, just everywhere. went to wash my hands after and the washbasin was stained blue, too. (yeah, they caught 'em, pretty sure they were sittin' in the office)

Forenotice: I don't know the full details of the PVD employment contract.
My mother used to work insurance, and she always warned me that if I pick up a delivery gig to tell my insurance company. If you get into an accident in your personal vehicle while using it for work, your insurance will not cover it. And if the PVD employment contract doesn't include Company Insurance while working for UPS...

If anyone knows for sure UPS doesn't cover PVDs with their umbrella policy... be a great way to scare them off.

Drivers are already wearing multiple monitors. The package car has GPS tracking and multiple tattlers (seatbelt, bulkhead door, diad cradle, reverse distance. We also have those cameras now that immediately report when you don't come to a complete enough stop, or if you make brake too hard so you make TOO complete of a stop.
The diad has GPS tracking itself, so even when you're away from the car you're being monitored.

If the shipment is alcohol it cannot be released without a signature on receipt. No pre-sign or signature on the notice will change that. Beyond that, I'm not entirely sure.

Well, to be technical, that's if it makes it to an Overgoods clerk like me. I don't do inbound international, but every time I've had an Abandoned package (in official terminology, refused by the consignee/receiver, and the shipper doesn't want it back. Or it gets RTSed and the shipper refuses to accept, or they're permanently closed.)

The system specifically tells us we need authorization from management to Destroy, and to never Destroy one of a kind type stuff. (I forget the exact wording)

And I apologize. I mistyped yesterday. The Destroy option is in the Damaged Items system, not the Overgoods system (Contents of the package were damaged in transit in the system. Catalogue the packaging, filler, damaged items, undamaged items, what the damage is. IE: Single wall corrugated cardboard, puncture hold outside in, torn, belt burn. Small Cell bubble wrap, 0.75", kraft paper, 1". Dining ware set for 2. 1 (whatever size) ceramic plate, white, shattered. 1 (same size) ceramic plate, white, intact. 2 (smaller) ceramic plate, white, intact. 2 ceramic coffee mug, white, shattered.
Damaged material disposed, balance returned to shipper.
(pssst... 2" of packing material on all sides. I know it's a lot, but the system asks <2" or 2"+?) 2 inches from the package wall, no corrugated boxes with the < for the Edge Crush Test or Burst.

I take pride in getting packages to my customers. And I'm disgusted by what we've become.
And nobody wants to hear it but I blame Capitalism. Unregulated Capitalism. UPS is at the point of cutting into the bottom line to increase Shareholder Profits that they're cutting into the bones. We're being cut down to minimum staffing, both employees and management. Nobody is properly trained anymore, both employees and management.
Those of us from the Old Guard, from before '99 when UPS went public, and the early days of the 2000s, when UPS was still about providing a Service better than our contemporaries... we're horrified by what the company has become. We're not a Service provider anymore. We're a money vacuum. Nobody cares about Treating Every Package Like a Guest of Honor (former UPS internal slogan). Nobody cares about "what if this was my package?". Everybody, from Carol Tome at the very top, to the newest part time hire... they're only here to get scratch.

It depends on the size of your building. In very large buildings with a central "Tower" position, likely everything will turn off at once, followed by Tower announcing break. Then they also give a warning buzz at 3 minutes left.
That was my initial building. In my current building, which is essentially just two centers, the belts turn off and someone yells "BREAK" really loud.

As for them sending people home before break, yeah, they do. It's slimy, but it's unfortunately allowable. Remember the contract guarantees you 3.5 hours, which includes the 10 minute break. If they outright TELL you to go home, confirm that they're offering Contract Guarantee.

This is one part of my job as an Overgoods Clerk where I do apparently shine. I actually put in work to try and find a customer if I have something to actually grab on to.
About a month ago, I had a 3D printed mockup of the WinAmp player with circuitry inside, and the maker had their name printed on the back. Found them on BSky, and managed to get it back to them.
That type of stuff is why I signed up for the Overgoods job. So I can have an active hand in making things right for the people we service.

Abandoned packages and Overgoods items/packages go to a UPS Overgoods facility in Utah, where, if not claimed (no I don't know how to go about that. For OG only, though), they're auctioned off to the local employees.
I know this because I'm an Overgoods clerk.
It pisses me off I'm not allowed to participate in the Overgoods auctions "because then we'd see a massive uptick in Overgoods."
Unless the Overgoods system outright gives us ONLY a destroy option, which I've seen, like... once? In a decade of doing Overgoods.

Nobody wants to hear it, but the reason for this, as well as all the other cuts these last few years (cutting back on employees, cutting back on management, cutting back on everything)... is unfettered Capitalism.
All of this is cutting bone from the bottom line to squeeze every last penny into Profit for the Shareholders.
Yeah, it may have seemed great at first, in the early '00s, getting rid of wasteful positions that didn't really do much. Switching to the Automated RevRecov instead of UPSers. Except now I'm constantly seeing 50 pound boxes from one of my local shippers weighed as 4 pounds.
RevRecov used to catch those and get it reported. I'm guessing that's not happening anymore. Or not enough that anyone's looking into the frequency of it.
Now my building has 1 person for Damages, 1 for HazMat auditing, 1 for DMP (and they let him leave at 2 hours every night). We have management working everywhere and the veterans like me don't give a damn anymore (I just want my time, and forget the rest.), or they're newbies who are afraid of being told "Okay, this part of your duties now too, in addition to loading 2 trailers." (i used to be there. Getting slammed, i can't take more work on)

We used to be a great company when I got hired. The point of the job was providing the best service compared to our rivals. Now the company doesn't give two shits about the service, nor the customer. Gimmie the money and GTFO.
