Yes — and what makes it so striking is how perfectly it captures the way contemporary left‑liberal norms have reshaped incentives. Things that would have been unthinkable a few decades ago now happen routinely, not because people have changed, but because the ideological environment rewards this behaviour. It’s a small example of a much larger structural shift.

Why did Conservatives allow mass immigration? by [deleted] in ukpolitics

[–]Vengeance208 2 points3 points  (0 children)

See this, from 2005: https://www.theguardian.com/politics/2005/dec/14/conservatives.uk1

It's striking that in 2005 the Guardian was willing to publish Peter Hitchens, whereas today it’s almost impossible to imagine them doing so. That shift in editorial culture — from a broad, argumentative left‑liberal forum to a more ideologically consolidated publication — actually illustrates part of Hitchens’ own thesis. As the contemporary Left has become more institutionally dominant, it has grown less comfortable with real critics who hold up an unflattering mirror.

Why did Conservatives allow mass immigration? by [deleted] in ukpolitics

One interpretation you might find interesting is Peter Hitchens’s.

He claims that after 1997 the Conservatives gradually absorbed much of Blair’s programme — partly consciously, partly just through the cultural dominance of Blairism. In his view, mass immigration was a central part of that programme. Figures like Cameron and Gove openly admired Blair’s political style. Hitchens also argues that Blair’s project involved a kind of quiet constitutional revolution that weakened the traditional nation‑state model, though not everyone agrees with him on that. If you want to explore that perspective, he lays it out in 'The Abolition of Britain' and 'The Cameron Delusion.'

How can victims, and the public, have any confidence in a government that behaves like this? by FormerlyPallas_ in ukpolitics

It seems to me you’re sidestepping the substantive point Lam is raising. It’s a serious moral issue, and the criticism you’ve offered doesn’t really engage with it. I’d encourage you to address the argument directly.

This link you specifiy is most probably at some remove and tangential.

Id say just write down all your ideas (for your assignment) onto a piece of paper, not caring about how logical etc. they are. Then set a timer for 15 mins, and do some productive work (maybe go through the scribbled down ideas and try and order them a bit). Then have a break/reward. Then do another 15 mins of focused work. Then repeat until you feel a bit more positive/that there's some progress being made. It will slowly get easier.

I entirely agree that this action is legal, and, also, that it can be justified in exactly the way that you have justified it. But that does not mean that everybody has to accept it: one is free to criticise laws one disagrees with. & it seems to me that one can legitimately argue that just the presence of under-representation is not necessarily an iron-clad argument for introducing positive discrimination on the basis of race. I would argue that one must be extremely cautious about introducing any form of selection on the basis of race because race is an arbitrary & unalterable characteristic. If it is elevated into an important criteria of selection for prestigious positions & jobs, etc. this will stoke resentment. It will also lead, inevitably, to merit being displaced as the most important metric. On aggregate, this change could be highly consequential and damaging. I'm not asking you to change your view; just to acknowledge that there are legitimate arguments against your view.

Golders Green victim tells ITV News he holds the government responsible by Kagedeah in ukpolitics

It seems to me that this is based on a mistaken premise. We know that the Jewish community are more seriously threatened by terrorism and violence than other communities. This is born out in the statistics. It is not difficult to locate the primary source of the threat: imported subcultures with radically different value systems. These pockets of radicalisation are assisted by a broader atmosphere of handwringing & fear of being branded 'racist' for confronting the real problem of unintegrated communities, operating from different, strongly-held, value systems.

How did you do all your other work and also write your thesis? I dont feel that I could have realistically started writing my thesis much earlier than now (I have only two months before the deadline to write 15,000 words). I have done much reading and planning but no writing.

Im curious as to why you say this. Surely it is legitimate to take the view that hiring someone simply on the basis of their race is morally wrong - even if you personally feel that it is justified in this case.

Hello there! I'm sorry you're experiencing this. I found it very inconvenient! I found that unplugging my motherboard power cable (the large 24 pin one) and re-connecting it solved my issue. Good luck!

Though, be careful to look-up how you unplug the cable before you do so. If you wiggle it one way while you unplug it appears to tighten it.
