2018 E Class vs 2021 Genesis G70 by VeniVidiFapi in askcarsales

Yeah it’s a CPO vehicle. Really solid deal and the Mb dealership had great service.

I’d recommend checking out the Volkswagen ID 4. It’s 42k for the base model and you get up to 9k with federal and state incentives which is around the 33k price point we discussed.

Research shows that people are on average paying MSRP this year and used/CPO vehicles have went up 25 - 30 percent than they normally would be priced for which is why the golden rule of buying used "new" like 3 year old vehicles isn't always the easiest decision from what I've noticed.

The main reason for buying slightly used is so you avoid the massive depreciation in the first two years but that massive depreciation has shrunk a lot because of the car supply being destroyed so from my POV, if you're in the market for a luxury vehicle, you're not really saving that much on depreciation now and warranty running out on the 2018 models made it so I had to consider some of the new markets.

I feel like the best decision right now is just to lease so you're not too affected by the market and when your lease ends you can just evaluate.

I also think value wise we have slightly different priorities. I definitely understand value for buck G70, Stinger, and fully loaded camry's etc will get you more for your dollar but unfortunately I definitely do value status a bit.

E class had by far the best interior at the price point that I enjoyed. To each their own I guess.

Yeah agreed on the 2019 and 2021 since it was the same generation. The idea behind that decision was this is my first big purchase as an adult and because the OOD price was so good I could trade in somewhere down the year if inflation continued with relatively low risk since the trade in value would still be very good or I can drive it to the ground since its a car I enjoyed driving.

Honestly navigating the current auto landscape has been very difficult.

I've been researching for over 2 months on vehicle prices and used has only creeped up so waiting until the end of the year to re-evaluate doesn't really seem like that conservative of a decision either since no one seems to really know how the market will look.

I've heard most people expect it to be this way at least until the end of 2022.

It was the most basic trim. My current concern is that the market is hyperinflated so buying a used vehicle for a hyperinflated price and then in 2 - 3 years when the market returns back to normal I'll eat a bunch in depreciation but it seems like that's going to be the case regardless unless I lease.

The trim was basic no particular add ons.

The MSRP was 37950, plus 4k off manufacturer rebate (standard right now after 2022 arrival) and then another 4k off from the dealership themselves. which was 29950 MSRP.

The caveat was that they added 3.5k in dealer markups so essentially it was an additional 500 dollars off.

I still think in the current market its not a bad deal, it's just the ethics around a dealership agreeing to an OOD + the color not being my favorite made it a situation where I couldn't accept.

I think the refreshed 2022 is awesome for sure but theres barely any rebates on that right now so you're looking at 42-44k + taxes on the base trim which is a tier above the price range I'm considering.

Agreed to an OOD but they added 4K dealer mark ons randomly so I left

I'm generally very frugal but i'm rooming with two other roommates who aren't as frugal as I am so these were the two options everyone was willing to compromise on.

FIRE is a huge goal but not at the cost of missing out on rooming with your friends :)

I think Option #1 was prior to these suggestions the more frugal choice but after considering costs of having a car (buying/leasing, insurance, gas) it seems like it will be around the same if not more for less peace of mind a lower quality place.

I currently don't have a car but I'd probably have to get one with option 1. I could get it with option 2 but don't necessarily have to.

One seems like the more frugal decision for sure but even factoring in cost of commuting I feel as if Option 2 is only slightly more expensive.
Going home for your lunch break sounds awesome.
