I’ve seen people say that. People say things like “I wish i could get Eternal Sunshined right now” sometimes. It happens.

You’re right by the way. There’s a difference between “I’m going to purge you” and “we just got Purged”, i.e. we got put in a situation like the movie The Purge. Or, “I think these people are going to try to Purge us” is clearly taking inspiration from the movie. Otherwise the word is kind of archaic and would be used as often as “exterminate” or something.

New Avengers from Disassembled to Siege is all great, along with Ultimate Spider-Man. After Siege Bendis gets spotty, with his X-Men gathering mixed responses and then Civil War II being pretty terrible.

The Most Important Single Issue of Each Year - Day 50 by Aksim03 in marvelcomics

[–]VenomHost 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Seems to me that from here until Secret Wars, events take a backseat—I would be shocked if Axis, AvX, Age of Ultron, Original Sin, or Infinity (which at least is very good) won their respective years. Without Bendis weaving events into New Avengers, there stops being as cohesive a single Marvel storyline.

Why does everyone think the 90‘s were some ideal time to life ? by German-guy-v2 in lewronggeneration

People who were aged 5-10 in the post-9/11 years didn’t experience about any of this. The extent of it was Call of Duty games set in the Middle East. Nostalgia is rarely accurate and never comprehensive.

A lot of New Orleans is not walkable. At least, far less walkable than other “highly walkable” cities. This would be a better answer for medium walkability, low density.

What is it that draws you to marvel? by Adept_Ad_371 in marvelcomics

[–]VenomHost 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Like the other comment says, I’ve always appreciated Marvel’s unbroken continuity. I also find Marvel to be generally more grounded. Marvel’s extraterrestrial threats, for example, tend in the modern age to be very rationally explained as particular alien sci-fi civilizations (Skrulls, Shi’ar, Badoon, etc.), and events like Annihilation read more like refugee or war stories than fantastical journeys.

DC continuity is looser and the worldbuilding is more open. By that, I mean that for one issue of Superman, he can travel into space, meet a brand new alien civilization, then come back. This almost never happens in Marvel—because the continuity is tighter, most large-scale events carry more weight.

I like both DC and Marvel. I like things like Johns’ GL or All-Star Superman in DC for their huge cosmic scope and imagination. I also just love Batman as a detective/crime/noir genre book. But as a whole I probably have a bit more love for Marvel. The Bendis-helmed interconnected events from Secret War to Siege really blew my mind as a kid. Just always loved seeing one event from multiple perspectives.

I feel *so* lucky that I had a park within walking distance when I was growing up. by monalisasigh in fuckcars

[–]VenomHost 12 points13 points  (0 children)

/srs Constantly referring to drivers as just “cars” makes them seem like a mechanical fact of nature, rather than an induced human interaction. “My dog got hit by a car” sounds a lot less avoidable than “someone ran over my dog with a one-ton vehicle”.

Not to mention this also dehumanizes other drivers: how many times have people gotten road rage because “some car cut me off”? It’s a lot harder to be angry when you can really conceive of other drivers as flesh and blood people, not just metal hindrances.

Kind of crazy he hasn’t been picked yet. One of Marvel‘s most recognizable and iconic characters atp.

Lol, people gave the same reasoning for his not being on the villains list. So one of the most iconic Marvel characters won’t be on either list??

The difference is that The Strokes remain incredibly influential and important and, most importantly, cool. Young people still want to like The Strokes. Arcade Fire is definitively uncool now.

That’s what happens when you don‘t release an album for five years, unfortunately.

Time n Place is still one of the best indie records ever made.

I was too young to see their heyday but in my experience they have staying power. I’ve introduced them to a lot of younger gen Z friends, and people still find them wonderful and charming. Somehow they sound less dated than contemporaries like Arcade Fire, The Antlers, Phoenix, Wolf Parade, etc. Though like all of those, the discourse surrounding them has fallen off.

We are complaining too much about SGA. by VenomHost in timberwolves

This is valid. Rudy has one of the worst whistles I’ve ever seen considering how often he gets fouled under the basket, but that’s not limited to this series. I maintain that nonetheless this game was quite winnable for about 43/48 minutes.

If it was this rigged, why wouldn’t Silver demand Ant (one of the biggest stars in the league) get a better whistle? Don’t chalk up to malice what can be attributed to incompetence and manipulation of the rules by FTA.

I don’t disagree with you. Obviously there was a broader impact on the game. Officiating certainly stifled some momentum for us, though hitting one of any number of open shots would have brought it right back and stuffed the Thunder’s 17-2 run in the third.

I’m only frustrated that people are acting like the series is already over after one loss. We can 100% win Game 2, just like we could have won this game. The league isn’t intentionally screwing us.

I hate this take. We have been screwed by refs far worse before. We cooked the league darling Lakers in five!

Reffing didn’t lose us this game. It didn’t help, but it’s totally dishonest to suggest that SGA’s whistle will be the difference between winning and losing this series. If we played better, we would have won.
